ak1394··on U.S. Air Force overstepped bounds in SpaceX certification: report
Funny funny funny, are we seeing Russian trolls on hacker news?

Yesterdays article https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9269760 got me thinking, there were several newly registered users voicing doubts in American Democracy and showing support for Russsa (c_los, M8, ibi7) and now borgia is chipping in for Russian rocket engines.

What's your point?

The original story in Russian, here http://www.svoboda.org/content/article/26913247.html This is a translation.

Is that a sarcasm?

It's not quite the same though? I doubt there is a facility somewhere in Ukraine where people are getting paid to peddle government propaganda on the Internet.
ak1394··on Introduction to Facebook's Flux architecture
One huge advantage of serving data to the client app via some API, is not having to worry about clients application state.

It greatly simplifies development of any but the elementary webapps.

ak1394··on The Practicality of J2ME Applications
There was/is a great UI library for J2ME called LWUIT. It arrived pretty late, but it was very good at abstracting the differences of various J2ME platforms (i.e. differences key codes/keyboard layouts, screen sizes and such). https://lwuit.java.net/

Back then, I wrote a Twitter client app for them J2ME phones with some processing offloaded to the server, which was done in Erlang :) Ah, the times.

ak1394··on Ask HN: What is the best drone for hackers?
Crazyflie from http://www.bitcraze.se/ is pretty cool. I own one myself, and I like it a lot. This is a tiny fully opensource quad which can be flown indoors. Obviously, because of it's tiny size it doesn't fly for too long and don't lift much.
ak1394··on Dojo Toolkit 1.7 Released.
Have a look at http://build.dojotoolkit.org/ (though I never used it myself, I'm using their command line build tool).
ak1394··on Twitter’s Shit Sandwich
Wow. I guess I'll be shutting down my feature-phone twitter client because of it. It's been in life-support mode for about a year, but I guess that's the end of it.
ak1394··on Persistent Login Cookie Best Practice
My favourite format for auth cookies is auth_tkt: http://www.openfusion.com.au/labs/mod_auth_tkt/ it's widely supported, and even if you can't find module for your favourite language, it's pretty easy to implement yourself.
ak1394··on Erlang - Not just fault tolerant, but highly fault tolerant
It very much depends on a problem you're trying to solve. For a wide range of tasks Erlang is a very natural fit. In my last two projects (server monitoring solution and mobile twitter client) I used Erlang mostly to cut the development time.

ak1394··on Middle-earth according to Mordor - The Lord of the Rings retold
It's absolutely brilliant. I especially like that it doesn't try to simply re-tell the LOTR from a different point of view, but changes aesthetics of the story as well. While LOTR is 'an epic saga', 'The Last Ringbearer' reads more like an historical account.

BTW, the russian text is freely available as well: http://lib.ru/PROZA/ESKOV_K/last.txt

ak1394··on Sproutcore vs jQuery +backbone.js
Wouldn't you think that http://dojotoolkit.org/ might be a good alternative?
ak1394··on Ask HN: Who Is Hiring Remote Workers? (January 2011 Edition)
Is anyone looking for Erlang developer?
ak1394··on Ask HN: What have you built with Erlang?
Also, thanks for your work on mysql driver, which I happen to use for PavoMe.
ak1394··on Ask HN: What have you built with Erlang?
I built a Twitter client, with j2me on handsets and Erlang server at the back to handle all communications with twitter and few other services for image hosting, etc. It was my second project in Erlang and was very rewarding experience. Part I especially liked, is that I could deploy updates to the server while it was running, with no desruption to clients at all. http://pavo.me/
ak1394··on Ask HN: RFS 3: Things Built on Twitter. Where are the companies?
Well, my 'Built on Twitter' micro startup (a twitter client for feature-phones) hasn't been quite a success I was hoping for. It has attracted some users, and still hovers somewhere at the bottom of top 100 clients, but after I realized I don't have a good way to monetize it, I decided to leave it and move to a greener pastures.
ak1394··on Introducing Our Ridiculously Simple Twilio SMS API
It mentions 3c per message, is it the same price for international messages as well?
ak1394··on Vidly (YC S08) first to launch HD video on Twitter
I don't know how popular a service like that is going to be.

I'm doing something similar at the moment - a combination of Twitter client for j2me phones that beside normal twitter functions allows taking photos/videos/audio recordings and a web site to display recorded material.

I've been live for about a month, and surprisingly I'm not seeing many users recording videos. Most would use it as a normal Twitter client, and some maybe will snap a few photos.
