aiven··on AI Doesn't Reduce Work–It Intensifies It
the system is built in a way that you need to run in order to stay still. you cant just "work less" because you will not have stability this way. new slaves using new shiny tools will work more and more and outcompete you in whatever domain you are working. so you will be forced to work more, to learn more in order just to keep your current lifestyle.

without basic morality and gov regulation capitalism would exploit humans like cattle. 996 should be outlawed everywhere

aiven··on AI Doesn't Reduce Work–It Intensifies It
Do you feel that you are at least as productive as a "regular" developer working a normal amount of hours? In terms of the quality and quantity of features you have shipped.
aiven··on The HTTP Query Method
In the first ten years? Maybe. After that, it might become mainstream.
aiven··on Blocking LLM crawlers without JavaScript
- If LLM knows about your content, people don't really need to visit your site - LLM crawlers can be pretty aggressive and eat up a lot of traffic - Google will not suggest its misleading "summaries" from its search for your site - Some people just hate LLMs that much ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
aiven··on Yann LeCun to depart Meta and launch AI startup focused on 'world models'
It is insane to think this in 2025 unless you define "reasoning" as some mechanical information lookup. This thinking (ironically) degrades the meaning of reasoning and of intelligence in general.
aiven··on Yann LeCun to depart Meta and launch AI startup focused on 'world models'
But LLMs still can't reason... in a reasonable sense. No matter how you look at it, it is still a statistical model that guesses next word, it doesn't think/reason per se.
aiven··on Why aren't smart people happier?
Ironically, they are not happy because they are not smart enough to find happiness ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
aiven··on Postman which I thought worked locally on my computer, is down
OpenAPI also has examples and auth. But, like Postman, it is tied to your service, not some 3rd party.
aiven··on You Had No Taste Before AI
> Don’t complain about mediocre work when you’re producing mediocre work yourself.

If only tasteful minority will complain - they will soon shrink into tasteful micro-minority. Complaining is still a useful feedback (half the time)

aiven··on Terence Tao: The role of small organizations in society has shrunk significantly
* assuming that we actually need all these technological advancements
aiven··on Show HN: Dayflow – A git log for your day
my custom simple tool is a stopwatch on a phone ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
aiven··on The elegance of movement in Silksong
skill issue

game just trying to tell that brute force solution might not work. use tools, use specific charms, use crests that are better suited for specific arena/boss. some tools (such as spiked traps) can literally one shot most mobs and leave you 1v1 with a boss.

dont give up, use your brain, hacker

aiven··on RFC 8594: The Sunset HTTP Header Field (2019)
Why do libraries such as Requests or HTTPX not support this out of the box? It would be really useful to have automatic warning or sentry event after deprecation response.

I understand that this functionality can be easily added as a plugin, but not everyone is aware that such a thing even exists. With default support, it will be easier to upgrade to new API versions and keep stuff up to date.

aiven··on Huge math error corrected in black plastic study; authors say it doesn't matter
Every solvable problem is solved by using known information, patterns, context, etc. We (and LLMs) are using some model of the universe and trying to coordinate it in a way that will help us solve some task. The difference between us and "old" LLMs is that we can generate new information/patterns/etc., immediately add it to our model, and use it to solve more complex problems. New LLMs such as o1-o3 are also capable of thinking over and over again and producing new information (in the current context) and trying to apply it to the current task that might not be solvable with just the information that it was trained on.

(This is my understanding, I’m not ml engineer)

aiven··on China asked Russia to delay war until after Olympics, Biden officials say
Russia is big country and it needs lots of men to defend it on all its borders, which means that the forces they can use for invasion are limited. RN it looks like that they run out of soldiers, and Ukraine already started counter attacks on some fronts, so I guess "they will win" will not happen any time soon.
aiven··on We don’t use Kubernetes
"no, we don't use Kubernetes, we are stuck in AWS ecosystem"
aiven··on Duolingo S-1 IPO
In the app you can use free practice mode to restore hearts.
aiven··on Telegram: Voice Chats 2.0:Channels, Millions of Listeners, Recorded Chats
This is the kind of feature that can burn servers :) Especially at telegram scale
aiven··on The Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company
compare price of labor between usa and india. Outsourcing everything to asia will be beneficial for company (and probably consumers since lower prices), but not for americans who work for cuban rn
aiven··on Professor suspended for saying 那个 nà ge
It didn't disappear. I still constantly hear and see in the internet usage of негр, нига or нигер (transliteration of the n-word). But the meaning always depends on the context, most of the time it is neutral - just referring to a black person, sometimes negative - infamous S.L. Jackson phrase "что этот ниггер себе позволяет", and sometimes positive: "нига, как дела" - can be equivalents to "what's up, bro", it's rarely used as joke-greeting. Local blacks don't seem to mind when someone call them this way, because it rarely has negative connotations.
aiven··on Ask HN: What weird or hard problems are you trying to solve?
Are you trying to reinvent 4chan?
aiven··on Shirt Without Stripes
He probably meant "more spicier". Second image for "now one with stripped this time please" yielded image that is linked to article about deep-fake nudes.
aiven··on What If C++ Abandoned Backward Compatibility?
J++ already exists. And so is -90 degree rotation (U++). The only variation that left is ∩++. But I think that 🅱️++ is better. It is modern looking and with hint that language took step backward from original in order to be more simplistic.
aiven··on Poetry: Dependency Management for Python
Same. Plus script to automatically freeze dependencies into requirements.txt after each `pip install/update/uninstall`.
aiven··on Myspace lost all the music its users uploaded between 2003 and 2015
After porn ban they probably have only ~one petabyte.
aiven··on Reddit Has Become a Battleground of Alleged Chinese Trolls
But they already use VPN to hop over their own firewall. Double firewall will not change a thing.
aiven··on Reddit Has Become a Battleground of Alleged Chinese Trolls
There are too much information these days. We literally don't have enough time to fact-check everything and therefor we pick the most believable version of a story and with that new info we shape our future selves.

"But you don't have to pick a side, just ignore this information altogether." For most minor info this strategy works, but when the same piece of info appears repetitively over and over again you start to believe it subconsciously or it moves from "minor" to "major/important info" group which we can't simply ignore.

aiven··on New Skype for Web is live for Edge and Chrome browsers
I don't understand why so many people downvote this. He didn't say nothing wrong. "I opened in my browser" is not a proper testing, there are a lot might going on.

In recent year MS have showed itself in many good ways and I don't think that they will do such shady move without proper reason.

aiven··on PayPal has permanently banned The Hacker News and hold funds for 180 days
Yeah, everyone suggest to move from platform with 0.001% incidents rate, to the scammy bitcoin where no one is responsible for anything.
