aigo··on A dog has been mayor of this California town for 8 years
Presume they have also elected a dogcatcher
aigo··on Ask HN: How do you manage your personal documents?
Not the parent, but given they are moving to Obsidian I'd say it's motivated by a desire to self-host and rely less on cloud services.
aigo··on $ sudo rm -rf / === NPM install
Thanks for this.
aigo··on Thousands of phone boxes around the UK will be protected from closure
Even unadjusted it's more than I was making as a graduate in 2012.
aigo··on $ sudo rm -rf / === NPM install
Can I ask, is the Node ecosystem different in this respect to PyPI for example? Or is it not different at all and the same thing could (does?) happen there too?
aigo··on The popularity of e-bikes isn’t slowing down
And there are a lot of parks and green spaces in London!

The amount of on street car parking in zones 2-3 is insane. Now that actually IS a subsidy to rich people.

aigo··on Pinterest ruined photo search on the internet
Couldn't agree more about the final sentence. Searching for almost anything (how to guides and recipes are the most obvious examples) returns a SERP of utter rubbish, all clearly designed to farm SEO and clicks. This seems to be what Google wants and desires, because it keeps getting worse.
aigo··on Ask stupid questions as a new software developer
I started something similar on my team recently, the chat group is called 'does anyone know' as that's how almost all of these questions begin
aigo··on Show HN: My wife is pregnant; naturally I made a baby-name app to prepare
My dad said to me "don't give your boy one of those trendy new names, stick to something traditionally English" so I called him Æthelbert.
aigo··on Thank you, GitHub
As a newer user that's actually one of the things I love about HN, that people accurately and succinctly summarise the link's content in the title. And if not, someone will ask them to do so in the comments.
aigo··on University of Florida bars professors from testifying in a voting rights case
In the UK we did discover some postal voting fraud in a 2014 local election in an area of London called Tower Hamlets. We did not ban postal voting as a result.

We have, however, imported a voter ID law from the US which was recently passed by the Johnson government, despite no voter impersonation occurring in Tower Hamlets (or anywhere else really). Previously, no ID was required.

aigo··on Science of Slow Cooking
> As a science enthusiast, learning more about the interplay of heat, time interacting with things like collagen, protein matrices, fats, cell walls for veggies makes cooking so much cooler and fun for me.

You would love Harold McGee's book On Food and Cooking

Some of the science was a little over my head but reading it has improved me a lot as a cook.
