A dog has been mayor of this California town for 8 years

For those who don't want to give the NY Post the benefit of their click-throughs:

The town is Idyllwild, CA. Idyllwild is a "census-designated place", and therefore it has no local government[1]. The "mayoral election" is ceremonial and, in this town's case, was held as a fundraiser for the benefit of Idyllwild Animal Rescue Friends[2].
