ahmadss··on A New Codecademy
This is because CodeAcademy (with the a) already existed (using the domain codeacademy.org). They changed their name to "The Starter League" in Sept 2012 [1].

ahmadss··on What I have learned running a software consultancy over the past two years
as you grow, managing utilization and bench time will be key to being profitable. each project has a built in "fiscal cliff" at the end of it, and having a good pulse on when to hit the gas on biz dev and when to ease off is really important in protecting profitability.
ahmadss··on What I have learned running a software consultancy over the past two years
curious to hear what you found cringe worthy. was it the hiring/firing part, or was it how he described his client vetting process?
ahmadss··on Where Working-Age Americans Are Moving
Boulder and Austin fit the bill for having both. DC, not so much (in the education realm, but with new charter schools popping up in DC, the situation is getting better).
ahmadss··on Take $1,000, Trade Once a Day, Make $264 Billion—You Could Have Done It in 2013
that's exactly what i thought - the power of compounding is amazing to look at when you see it in action with higher dollar amounts.
ahmadss··on Thoughts on Bitcoin
Re: #2 - Vendors need to pay rent, suppliers, and employees - all of whom presumably don't accept BTC. So that's probably why you see Coinbase, BitPay, and others that default to converting BTC to fiat the moment of transaction.
ahmadss··on How I got into YC S13
regarding point #2, if you don't have an alumni connection in your network, yet you know that this is part of the formula for writing a successful application, then it's on you to figure out how to make those connections. that mentality of being "relentlessly resourceful" is straight from a pg essay [1].

You should consider reaching out to the folks at CopyBlogger. They might be interested. All - have you considered writing a guest blog post about this new product?
ahmadss··on I'm learning to code by building 180 websites in 180 days. Today is day 115
Consider reading a book called "The Now Habit". The author discusses fear of success/failure and the inability to finish projects, and deems that these fears are what cause us to procrastinate. Then he provides a plan/approach/framework to overcome these fears.
ahmadss··on The Constitution Applies When the Government Bans Americans From the Skies

What's interesting is that while the media is attacking Snowden for his lack of "elite" higher-education credentials, a cursory look at these analysts reveal that they too don't have the "elite" higher-ed credentials.

Several profiles list University of Maryland University College [1] (an online state institution with very similar operations as competing for-profit schools), American Military University [2][3][4](for-profit school), community colleges [5], and so on.

ahmadss··on The little things I learned from the Valley
family friendly can be parsed many ways, but in general, it's some weighted combination of outdoor/parks/community programs, crime rate, public school quality, the ratio of kids to adults and seniors in the area, median house size, etc.
ahmadss··on The little things I learned from the Valley
any recs on family friendly cities/towns in the east bay for those looking to move out to bay area soon? my wife and i plan on working in SF proper. her firms SF office is located near embarcadero BART, and i'm still looking for a gig.

ahmadss··on Sriracha Hot Sauce Catches Fire
or massive, multi-million dollar ad buys and "agency of records" to promote the product.
ahmadss··on Analyzing MOOCs - A SWOT Analysis
This is solid content, but I was expecting a comparison of Coursera, udacity, KhanAcademy, and edX.

Additionally, may want to add a summary chart using one of the four variations to present a SWOT analysis --

ahmadss··on ShowHN: Our weekend project: Help developers get more projects.
at this point, yes, they'd have to be using this too. in the future, though, we were thinking of implementing sharing with unique URLs (like youtube does it with unlisted videos) that don't require login/registration.
ahmadss··on ShowHN: Our weekend project: Help developers get more projects.
thanks! obviously this is our MVP landing page, so we'd definitely appreciate critical feedback. especially pertaining to the site copy, the concept, and anything else that seems to stick out.
ahmadss··on Our Django Book is Launched
Glad to see that you're using Gumroad, but here's an alternative place to sell "previews" of the book -- http://timebx.com/.

Might be worth a shot later down the road when you are trying to sell to a less captive audience (as compared to the HN crowd).

ahmadss··on Rap Genius: Impish Ivy Leaguers Raise Millions for Internet Decoder Ring
Think beyond the rap content and consider it to be a text annotation content engine. The applications/use cases span beyond rap.

this reminds me of what stackoverflow has done - verticalized Q&A sites based on what they validated/proved with stackoverflow itself.
