aeurielesn··on Bill Gates tries to install MovieMaker
You can verify it yourself if you read until the end.
aeurielesn··on Your Racist Linux Distro Is Very Nice (Scott Jennings)
There's something pathologically wrong with "tech elites".
aeurielesn··on Giving up upstream-ing my patches and feel free to pick them up
I disagree. Trivial PRs are perfect for first contributions, especially to get through the myriad of bots requesting you to sign/review stuff.

Having said that, I would never contribute to a project with a first contributor experience like this one.

aeurielesn··on Bye Bye Gmail
This has been my number one request for fastmail for years. They're happy with GDPR compliance but no intentions of having EU servers.
aeurielesn··on Go away Python
That's giving way too much credit to uv.
aeurielesn··on France threatens GrapheneOS with arrests / server seizure for refusing backdoors
Not according to Chat Control at least where politicians are exempting themselves from State surveillance.
aeurielesn··on Tesla blows past stopped school bus and hits kid-sized dummies in FSD tests
Sorry, I am failing to see how any of these three points are relevant or even important.
aeurielesn··on Court denies Apple appeal in Epic Games case, keeping App Store changes in place
Apple prefers to pay the hilarious fines from the EC than to comply.
aeurielesn··on Judge rules Apple executive lied under oath, makes criminal contempt referral
It's baffling putting together a C-suite of anti-competitive executives doesn't get anyone criminal charges.
aeurielesn··on OpenAI tells judge it would buy Chrome from Google
Definitely worse.
aeurielesn··on X users are unable to post “Signal.me” links
Free speech for thee but not for me.
aeurielesn··on BambuLabs removing 3rd party access to its printers
I really hope BambuLabs doesn't go to hell before I even get a chance to get a X1C — as it provides the best quality out-the-box enclosure which I would need at home.
aeurielesn··on GOG Joins European Federation of Game Archives, Museums & Preservation Projects
As a SteamDeack owner, I'm really looking forward to see AAA games be Linux-first.

Windows gaming really needs to stop.

aeurielesn··on Uv's killer feature is making ad-hoc environments easy
I don't understand how things like this get approved into PEPs.
aeurielesn··on Tesla appears to be building a teleoperations team for its robotaxi service
It could also be that Musk thinks it's a market where he can avoid liabilities.
aeurielesn··on Meta Fined $843M by EU over Marketplace Ads
GP forgot this narrative where breaking laws enables technological progress and innovation.
aeurielesn··on Comparison of configuration file languages (2016)
TOML is a monstrosity and I'm terrified Python is backing it up.

I'd love to see more HCL.

aeurielesn··on IPv6 may already be irrelevant – but so is moving off IPv4
On the other hand, same as you I tried IPv6-only to reduce costs but I couldn't load my website at all on my mobile.
aeurielesn··on WordPress.org's latest move involves taking control of a WP Engine plugin
My understanding is ACF injected notices for their personal legal gains on everyone's dashboards. I wouldn't be surprised if such thing is a breach.
aeurielesn··on Comfy, the 2D rust game engine, is now archived
I believe a post from one or two weeks ago showed it seems more of a systematic Rust ecosystem problem.
aeurielesn··on AI Training is Copyright Infringement (under European law)
I didn't make any statements about rulings. I just commented about what seems to be the general sentiment this time around.

As others pointed out, if LLM startups have to go broke after not being able to steal any more data then that will just be the reality of it.

aeurielesn··on AI Training is Copyright Infringement (under European law)
All of them can be abused but patents are the most abusable among IP protections.
aeurielesn··on AI Training is Copyright Infringement (under European law)
I'm shocked people in this thread think technological and research advancement means breaking laws and stealing copyrighted data.

I'm hoping for this article to show up again on the frontpage on a EU timezone where I can read some civilized discussion about it.

aeurielesn··on European iPhones are more fun now
I'm looking forward to the EU banning these practices altogether. Until then I'm happy to stop using sites that sell my PII.

Good luck having Brave protect your PII.

aeurielesn··on Linus Torvalds talks AI, Rust, & why Linux is the only thing that matters
IMHO, as a C developer, I love Rust's features but the syntax is terrible.
aeurielesn··on European iPhones are more fun now
AFAIK, there's no such thing as a cookie law, it's about PII consent.

I'm fine knowing in advance how scummy a website is even before I use it by their dark patterns on cookie warnings and thousands of "legitimate interest" partners.

Edit: People should stop whining about the cookie warnings and start being concerned that selling PII is such a common (and not even looked down upon) practice. It's disgusting.

aeurielesn··on Discord runs Powershell on load to find Nvidia binaries
Can barely see the tweet without an account. I wonder when that's going to require an account as well.
aeurielesn··on Apple vs. the "Free Market"
I would hate to see a world where this sentiment is widespread when others are trying to fight for the right to repair and other causes and Apple is doing nothing but lobbying against them.
aeurielesn··on Google and Meta struck secret ads deal to target teenagers
Nothing will change as long as C-suite roles keep breaking the law and walking away scott free. Also goes for the investors promoting this behavior at startup level.
aeurielesn··on CrowdStrike CEO summoned to explain epic fail to US Homeland Security committee
I have never liked CrowdStrike. Our IT department forced it on us and it's one of the worst experiences I've ever had.
