aduty··on Automatic Transmission – a data-privacy study of connected vehicles
Fix or recall daily cares not for how it was abused.
aduty··on 56k.rip – the 1996 dial-up internet experience
That's likely due to most phone lines not supporting the full 56k speed. In most areas you would be lucky to get 33.6k or 28.8k.
aduty··on Antiquated HTML Snippets and Artefacts
I remember both and I'm thankful that we were able to leave it behind.
aduty··on Sonic Pi v5
Pretty sure that aggressive defense is required for trademarks and not copyright. However it may be interesting whether or not it's still protected by copyright.
aduty··on I joined the IndieWeb, here's what I learned
Has nostr evolved beyond brocoins at this point?
aduty··on CD sales growth outpaced vinyl in the first half of 2026
This won't affect the price of vinyl. Most CD buyers just don't want a bunch of lawyers ruining their collection as happens on the different services from time to time. Ripping a CD to mp3s and sticking them on a thumb drive is easier than with vinyl, but vinyl has its own tactile experience.

The types of nostalgia are not the same. Which is really unfortunate since I would also like more affordable vinyl records.

aduty··on Einstein's relativity rules chemical bonds in heavy elements, new research shows
No.
aduty··on The MUMPS 76 Primer – anniversary edition
You would love OpenEdge ABL.
aduty··on A robot is sprinting towards you. Do you want it running on Claude or Grok?
Maybe Michael Reeves still has one. Or at least knows how they react to different calibers.
aduty··on Mercedes‑Benz starts large‑scale production of electric axial flux motor
Since they're relatively compact they will probably start stacking them. Like pancakes.
aduty··on StarFighter 16-Inch
You realize that the EU as a whole believes this and actively attempts to enforce it on citizens of other countries, right?
aduty··on All 12 moonwalkers had "lunar hay fever" from dust smelling like gunpowder (2018)
Brushless motors are popular now, but if you get the cheaper cordless tools they'll still have brushed motors. I have some Black & Decker 20V ones that do it. They tend to have less torque but I don't need Milwaukee or Makita tools just for diy around the house.
aduty··on The threat is comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing
So what are you, 200?
aduty··on Sam Altman may control our future – can he be trusted?
LOL, no.
aduty··on The threat is comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing
Sure, relative to the universe, but it's more than those who haven't had idealism beaten out of them by the world.
aduty··on The threat is comfortable drift toward not understanding what you're doing
> Then the social paradigm needs to change. Is everyone just going to roll over and die while AI destroys academia (and possibly a lot more)?

My 40-some-odd years on this planet tells me the answer is yes.

aduty··on 15 years, one server, 8GB RAM and 500k users – how Webminal refuses to die
I remember when 16 MB was considered a lot. Then again, I also remember when graphics acceleration was considered optional.
aduty··on Sodium-ion EV battery breakthrough delivers 11-min charging and 450 km range
Anyone who thinks this should give it a try.
aduty··on Why the global elite gave up on spelling and grammar
Pretty grate either way.
aduty··on Uploading Pirated Books via BitTorrent Qualifies as Fair Use, Meta Argues
Lars was always a scumbag.
aduty··on Waymo blocking ambulance during deadly Austin shooting
Start disabling and towing their cars and watch a solution magically appear.
aduty··on I built a demo of what AI chat will look like when it's “free” and ad-supported
You forgot the part where they charge you to get rid of the ads but then the ads come back anyway so you're paying to be the product.
aduty··on Virtual Boy on TV with Intelligent Systems Video Boy
I really liked Red Alarm but it was a really tiring game to play. But overall I agree with you about the Virtual Boy. It's not a system that was received fondly for very good reasons.
aduty··on The 600-year-old origins of the word 'hello'
Probably. They're not very cultured there.
aduty··on Dealing with abandonware (2024)
The modern choices are accompanied by ads and gambling, to the point that it wouldn't be surprising if Final Fantasy 6 was seeing an uptick. Go enjoy your "modern" games all you like, but it doesn't always matter if a games community is growing, especially if it's not one requiring connectivity to blast ads and skins at people.
aduty··on Ask HN: What are the best engineering blogs with real-world depth?
At most places, no. Lol.
aduty··on If you don't design your career, someone else will (2014)
They're just speaking from their own place of privilege.
aduty··on Building a Modern C64 Assembly AI Toolchain
https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=rosc.vs6...

I haven't tried the support for the C or C++ compilers targeting the C64, but that would set you up for developing with the C64 as a target in a modern environment.

If you're wanting it to be on the C64 Ultimate itself, maybe we'll all be in luck in a year or two.

aduty··on The Lions Operating System
Love that discussion on the Haiku board.
aduty··on NASA chief suggests SpaceX may be booted from moon mission
He only cared about sending rockets up. Where they came down was other people's problem.
