adammarples··on Midlife Vascular Risk Burden and Dementia-Free Survival Years
Nobody thinks walking is a silver bullet, ie a cure all. It's a good preventative for the most likely cause of death (heart disease).
adammarples··on Why ugly buildings create NIMBYism
What about "I built a property here because I like the environment and you're welcome to sell up" do you not like?
adammarples··on Show HN: An app that logs your meal's calories from a photo
I'm going to safely assume that everything is hallucinated
adammarples··on Work out daily? OK, but how socially fit are you? (2023)
Have relationships, walk, sleep, eat food. It's all actually quite relaxing and enjoyable stuff, nothing to stress over.
adammarples··on I gave Pi one tool
Why do people write in this staccato, linkedin-esque way where everything is a short unconnected sentence? It's awful.
adammarples··on It's a shame what's happened to radio
Shout out to WFMU. Listen, donate.
adammarples··on It's a shame what's happened to radio
The BBC hasn't been cut in the name of austerity. It isn't funded by general taxation it's funded by the licence fee, which has only risen, however not in line with inflation. This is basically because nobody wants to pay it, and indeed a huge number of people have stopped paying it.

Counterpoint: we know it will move down
adammarples··on Latent Space as a New Medium
Tbh a trivial generative image model could generate any human face, because it could generate any image, just randomly generating pixels is enough.

adammarples··on GPT-5.6, Grok 4.5, Claude, and Muse Spark build the same 4 apps
The extent to which their are, is the extent to which that is not science
adammarples··on Wikipedia escapes Category 1 designation under the UK Online Safety Act for now
There are plenty of pubs and houses in the UK called The Old Toll House so I know for sure that some have ended
adammarples··on GPT-5.6, Grok 4.5, Claude, and Muse Spark build the same 4 apps
Because serious science is hard and valuable for its rigour, and shouldn't be compared with just poking at data to see what happens
adammarples··on GPT-5.6 Sol, along with Terra and Luna, will launch publicly this Thursday
What a tantalising mystery there is here waiting to be solved!

adammarples··on Performance per dollar is getting faster and cheaper
Slight criticism of the headline there, you can't get cheaper per dollar.
adammarples··on AI coding is addictive. Engineers are paying the price
We have no ability to sense speed, only acceleration.
adammarples··on Millions told to check their sunscreen experts reveal products may not be safe
The Daily Mail is a national joke
adammarples··on AI coding is a nightmare. Am I the only one experiencing this?
Can you get, for example in python, a tool that parses the ast and builds a very concise graph of function calls into a map, with file names, so that AI can do tool calls on this before updating any code? Instead of the grepping which is what we have.
adammarples··on EU countries want oil exploration to be classed as a green investment
Well oil is "green". Burning oil releases carbon dioxide which is plant food and contributes to global greening. This isn't good, because it also contributes to global warming, but I don't really understand why people conflate "green" with renewables. The greenest the planet has ever been was during the carboniferous period, where plants had feasted on unusually high levels of atmospheric co2.
adammarples··on The Doorman's Fallacy in action
This seems like it has nothing to do with the technology and everything to do with the confusion that has always arisen when 6 people try and split a bill, it has always been like that. As for "secretly" trying to pay for an apple crumble, I have no idea how technology is supposed to help there. The way QR code scans usually work is you scan, order, and pay individually.
adammarples··on The loop is here (reply to "The Coming Loop" by mitsuhiko)
It makes it much worse, the LLM smell is all over it
adammarples··on Zombie unicorns are haunting Silicon Valley
They think it's Spacex
adammarples··on Thomann takes legal action against Fender
There's an article related to the headline linked at the top which explains it.

"The upper horn ensures perfect balance, the cutaways make it easier to play in the upper registers, and the contours of the body increase playing comfort. The shape of the Stratocaster was created to provide musicians with the most functional and ergonomic tool possible.

This is exactly why it has been taken up, developed further and reinterpreted by luthiers all over the world over decades."

adammarples··on The loop is here (reply to "The Coming Loop" by mitsuhiko)
What I learned is that you "spent a few really hard, deeply interesting weeks trying to give words to this", and yet you still, still, still could not bring yourself to write those words down yourself without asking an LLM for help.
adammarples··on Mark Zuckerberg directed Meta to create a prediction markets app
The glasses, sadly, and unlike everything else, are incredibly popular and selling faster than they can make them
