acoyfellow··on Show HN: Fiction55.com - 55 word micro-fiction stories.
Yeah I agree on basically everything you just said :) Thanks for the comment

Not sure how to best implement features, so I left them out for now. I think my biggest problem is going to be traffic generation. I am considering making the SPA SEO'able, so that it could possibly start collecting some long tail organic traffic.

This was more of a passion project but if I could find a biz model I'd be super stoked :)

Every entrepreneur needs to be a good storyteller :)
acoyfellow··on How to Make Yourself Work When You Just Don’t Want To
I'm not sure if I'm misreading this, but your tone sounds quite snarky. That kind of attitude is not exactly the normal tone for comments at HN.

So, I appreciate this article, but the content does seem somewhat redundant to HN. Every now and again a new life-hack article will appear, and then talk about Pomodoro, then people posting links to their time saving apps. It's a tested technique, so why not? Maybe it really will help someone today get their project shipped. It's not the worst thing that can happen around here :)

I like that the HN community supports constantly trying to be more productive. "Building it" can be hard for people, depending on their background and what "it" is-- and I don't think having a sarcastic oppositional stance is going to encourage or help anyone.

I love these kinds of posts. Interesting way of mining data from a product that isn't yours :). Are there any negatives to this type of approach (other than potentially pissing off the dev)?

Very cool. Thank you for the explanation :) Good luck with everything

Could you elaborate on where exactly machine learning comes into play? Why is there additional value with that tech?

Very interesting product, I will definitely be giving it a try.

acoyfellow··on Show HN: GeoTreat.com: Delight Website Visitors by Geolocation
Some ideas I am working on (and considered implementing) to help with that "creep factor"/customer discrimination..

1) Pre filter using their IP so that people not in range would not see the geolocation request.

2) Instead of automatically opting in, I plan to allow the website owners to chose if they'd like a button widget they can customize. This way they can let users click a "75% Off Button" or something along those lines, THEN confirm their geo-location.

I love your WalMart example, thats exactly the sort of thing that could work.

acoyfellow··on Show HN: GeoTreat.com: Delight Website Visitors by Geolocation
I appreciate that :) -- but the main goal is to build something that provides value. I hope to focus GeoTreat into something more specific that can help solve something big.

I talk to small business owners all the time, and they don't understand native apps, run their own sites, and don't know how to code. I had them in mind when building this.

You are right. I definitely dropped the ball, I should have put more effort into the landing page for my Show HN. Working on a more in depth homepage right now.

Definitely still working on the one line pitch, but here it goes: Teamite is a tool for teams to organize their repeatable systems, and simplify their communication.

Teams can create tasks (basically like blog posts, HTML wysisyg, attachments.. And these tasks can be place on to teams calendars, which basically is a glorified "To Do List" as of right now.

I've built similar systems for small businesses on contract. This is my attempt at turning the things I've learned with them into a SaaS

You are right my homepage is beyond lacking.. Working on a quick redesign now.

So far, the core features I have focused on building are: Real Time Team Calendar Task Creation (attachments, rich html editing) Task Assignment Syncing Team Invitations

Some Features that I wanted to build (in order of importance as I see them right now): Mobile user experience optimization (calendar and more) Email notifications (daily roundups, on task assignments, and more) Team chat and user messages? More comprehensive dashboard for Team Admin's Smarter Assignments (Every day, every week, every X day, etc)

acoyfellow··on How to win as a first time founder - a Drew Houston Manifesto
Incredibly informative article.. But the second I closed this, I saw the article about how BitTorrent is growing at a faster rate than Dropbox did. [1]

It made me wonder how Drew/Dropbox is going to respond to such a competitor

acoyfellow··on My Roommate's a Genius
Sorry if how I wrote seemed like a jab, it was more like a quick thought. It was intended to stir discussion not to pick a fight :)

I'm not sure if I even know what it means to be a genius, in literal terms. I use the word "genius" all the time, and your reply made me think about how generously I use it.

acoyfellow··on My Roommate's a Genius
Curious, what or who do you consider to be genius?
acoyfellow··on Show HN: We built our startup in 100 days
I love the concept, and I dig the "no-click" style of watching. Makes for a very nice UX.

I hope there can be some good stories that come from it.. but what happens if someone starts being inconsistent with their project? I wonder how many people will fully complete the 100 days

acoyfellow··on Show HN: Sendity.com
Thanks for checking it out. Bondgifts looks sexy! That machine is incredibly cool.

I see your points about the capturing of addresses. What I was thinking is that this could become a platform for businesses who do send lots of physical mail (that isn't very time sensitive). They would already have these addresses.. Maybe Sendity could be a way to help that process become more seamless or faster.

I can see this being useful for a "drip-mailing" type of snail mail campaign.. Once I build out the saas features!

No problem. IMO he specifically needs to get more attention around here.. It's tremendous information for anyone looking to grow using SEO, and who want the most relevant information possible. I don't know a better SEO resource.
