it's a sign that they got someone competent to do finance. Just means that he's the guy to go to (sue) when you demand remedy from the company for injuries caused. :)
aclevernickname··on Dawn of Autonomous Corporations, Powered by Bitcoin
So, following your logic, the Bangladeshi Taka is a toy currency, as well?
aclevernickname··on Dawn of Autonomous Corporations, Powered by Bitcoin
Non-citizen national here. I have a special passport, and am considered a non-specific, non-naturalized person. I have to create (foreign-owned) LLC's in order to work within the system/collect or pay taxes/earn a wage in Dollars. I've met at least a hundred people that have the same status as I do. I'm told there are thousands of us.
aclevernickname··on Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander)
7.04 install upgraded to 13.10 here. Worst I had to do was apt-get -f install after an apt-get dist-upgrade. So six years now.

aclevernickname··on Okay, Feminism, It’s Time We Had a Talk About Empathy
no surprise this post wasn't popular; it goes against the narrative.

I enjoyed it, FWIW.

aclevernickname··on Windows 8.1 Will Start To Roll Out Tomorrow At 4 AM PDT
Thanks, Techcrunch. I just set a cron job on my gentoo box to emerge world at 4PM PDT, to honor Microsoft's Windows 8 bugfix.
aclevernickname··on Ask HN: Why are POS systems all POSes?
I used to do Tier 4 support for a now-defunct (3rd Largest) grocery store in the US, and NCR has a stranglehold on this market. Every Self-CheckOuT lane with the same voice is probably an unbranded NCR SCOT. I've seen them in Home Depot, Loblaw's/Superstore, and even in some surprising locations (a nursery/greenhouse). Everyone uses the same terminals. It's been ripe for disruption for nearly a decade now.

LemonPOS[1] has been around for ages, is Free Software, and works great. It'd take very little effort to undercut the big guys in this market with a tiny agile startup.

aclevernickname··on Ask HN: What are HNs views on Marijuana/ Medical Marijuana?
Daily user, with a prescription and approval of Health Canada. Allowed to grow 15 plants under license (which is grandfathered as of april 2014). massively lowers my anxiety, and allows me to work.

As MMPR is being brought in here (and Harper is destroying the black market cannabis trade), I'm bootstrapping a cooperative corporation that converts all these illegal growers to legal ones. We're already approved for distribution, and our website should be launched shortly.

aclevernickname··on Glenn Greenwald is leaving The Guardian
Drudge and Alex Jones are not libertarian. Drudge is a heavily-conservative pundit that preaches holier-than-thou morals in his biased reporting. Alex Jones spreads "we-are-all-going-to-die" fear porn to his terrorized audience.

Libertarians are socially liberal, and fiscally conservative. Since the republican party co-opted the Tea Party via Glen Beck, there is no longer a viable voice for the political belief.

This nitpick aside, you're totally correct about the polarization of the news figures.

aclevernickname··on Ask HN: What's your linux distro?
If your computer is a means to an end, I suggest installing Kubuntu and never looking back to MacOS. I install it daily on end-user and developer workstations as a MacOS replacement.

If you're curious about how Linux works, I'd start with Gentoo or Arch.

aclevernickname··on Ask HN: Have you considered switching from OS X to Linux?
perhaps my previous post was too polite. People that never actually _care_ to learn linux go from Redhat to Ubuntu (or stay right where they are!). People with an interest in the OS itself move to Gentoo/Funtoo/LFS.

I still use CentOS to this day (Asterisk), it's painful.

aclevernickname··on Ask HN: Have you considered switching from OS X to Linux?
Most linux users start on Redhat/Fedora, and quickly leave due to the pain that is RPM. I left to gentoo. Most others take the debian/ubuntu path.
aclevernickname··on Ask HN: Have you considered switching from OS X to Linux?
I've been converting MacOS users to Kubuntu/KXStudio for the last year and a half. Since Lion, MacOS is now less user-friendly than kubuntu overall, and their system is usually more responsive after the update.
aclevernickname··on Steve Wozniak: Snowden is a hero
Seeing as he didn't turn over the collected documents to a foreign government, and instead sent them to two reputable news organizations, we're all very glad of how accepting you are of what Snowden did.
aclevernickname··on Linux only needs one 'killer' game to explode, says Battlefield director
So who here doesn't think that HL3 is going to be SteamOS-exclusive?
aclevernickname··on Linux only needs one 'killer' game to explode, says Battlefield director
MGS was released for the original playstation, which did not run either CellOS or BSD.
aclevernickname··on Linux only needs one 'killer' game to explode, says Battlefield director
for perspective, Steambox Exclusive == Runs on Linux PC's.

Not even Xbox/GFW can do that.

aclevernickname··on Hostnames
Transformers.

AlphaTrion is the PDC, A-3 is the BDC/SDC. Iacon is the SQL machine (VectorSigma is the name of the LVM pool). OmegaSupreme/Metroplex/FortressMaxiums are the gateways. Gestalts (Defensor, Computron, Superion) are used for the SANs and any other clusters.

Considering we try to be good guys, we only allow Autobot names for workstations. Starfire, Starscream, Punch-Counterpunch, and other fence sitters are not allowed. I lobbied for Wheelie to be included in that list, but was overruled by others.

[EDIT] I could see how this might have limitations on scale, but we haven't hit those limits internally, so it doesn't affect me yet. :)

Excellent, so from now on, I can assume that you've only educated yourself halfway on any topic you agree/disagree with. Thanks for the clarity.
aclevernickname··on Archive of all Silk Road forum posts attributed to Dread Pirate Roberts
The prosecution is trying their hardest to make the case fit uniformly on Ulbrecht. One often omits facts and information that does not support a claim in court when making a criminal complaint. If we ruled only on the information provided by the prosecution, we would be a fascist society, guilty until proven innocent. Seeing as we are all presumed innocent until proven guilty, Perhaps you should not form your opinion based on the documents from only one side of the debate.
aclevernickname··on Archive of all Silk Road forum posts attributed to Dread Pirate Roberts
oh my, I got tptacek's attention.

You probably also missed the part where pallandt said he was american, too. because it also didn't happen. odd that you didn't focus on that part.

When one is basing their understanding solely on documents from the prosecution, one is programming themselves with a bias. do you disagree?
