For new players it's best to start in the tutorial: https://schemaverse.com/tutorial/tutorial.php
I asked because we have been considering ways for people to easily deploy their own instance of the game (likely for educational purposes). So I try to keep an eye open for new db services.
The technical reason for the requirement is that players connect from all over but the system also needs to be able to connect as each player - preferably without knowing their password. We normally handle this with a trust relationship between specific servers. Alternatively we could be using a superuser account and SET ROLE but that would require some other changes as well.
Unfortunately it doesn't sound like it will cover my use-case, but admittedly my scenario is a weird one (see http://schemaverse.com).
Either way, thanks for the response and best of luck with the service!
We have spent about a year working on the organization and we are really happy with how far it has come. We have a lot more work ahead but we think the CBP is a great start.
Please feel free to post any comments, concerns and questions. I will answer them all to the best of my abilities.
TLDR: thnx
Trying to use Bitcoind on there is pretty much impossible.
It is currently only available to play with Defcoin but it is pretty fun so far. It's kind of like satoshi dice but with tactics/strategy instead of luck.
Moral of the story, just take a quick look anyways.
I certainly understand that it is just an estimate though, thanks to the beauty of the btc network in general and other fun tools like tor and your own transaction relay.
The close tie in with testnet is a nice touch. A lot of developers seem to forget that testnet is there to help them.
Do you plan on trying to farm additional details regarding transactions such as estimated originating IP address or known address labels?
Schemaverse isn't nearly as polished as this is but if you are looking to battle some AI, give it a chance.
Play a space battle MMO, but using SQL. The game is also completely open source so if you want to find out how to write an entire application layer in PostgreSQL, it is a pretty good example of that.
Now, to further complicate things, you have to put a value on that piece of that puzzle that actually changes hands during these transactions. Realistically, the value of it doesn't even matter if I want to go CAD -> BTC -> BTC -> USD. As long as the value between CAD and USD makes sense, the transaction was a success and all parties are happy.
This is what most people, generally the investment folk, don't understand about our new little technology here. Bitcoin isn't just about the value of a Bitcoin and a Bitcoins buying power. Bitcoin is a network. The value of the fuel for that network will very as people need it and as the cost associated with generating that fuel change. This is irrelevant though as the price of Bitcoin is not the measure of its usefulness, or its success.
That's just my initial thoughts though. Now I need to sit down and actually deploy something to it.
At least one aspect was a bit amusing: http://pic.twitter.com/iPqCk1J3x8
Luckily, I don't need to care about read-only or blacklisted queries, the entire application is already built into the database layer.
I would love to try using this with Schemaverse (http://schemaverse.com) but most frameworks I have seen have trouble with multiple database roles/connections.
As for adding awesomeness, I would say the core devs do a pretty fantastic job of that. I just utilize it is odd ways ;)
There are some main platform differences, as many have pointed out, but those who like one of the other generally fit into one of these two reasons:
1) Botting/AI vs Human Interaction only - When people started writing bots to play MySQLGame, others seemed to get furious. If you want to do well in the Schemaverse, you likely have to write some form of AI at some point, either in SQL or any other platform you wish.
2) Story vs no Story - People who like MySQLgame really appreciate the fact that the story is simply the numbers. I think that does make for a pretty unique game on its own, even outside of the SQL aspect of things. The Schemaverse is a space battle.
Shameless plug, if SQL games interest you and you will be at DEFCON 21 in Las Vegas this year, there will be another Schemaverse championship. Start getting ready now and it will take up very little of your conference time but you could win some great prizes and sweet sweet SQL game street-cred. https://forum.defcon.org/forumdisplay.php?f=690 for more information
