abstractwater··on OpenAI and Nvidia announce partnership to deploy 10GW of Nvidia systems
> So where is this 10GW electric supply going to come from and who is going to pay for it?

I would also like to know. It's a LOT of power to supply. Nvidia does have a ~3% stake in Applied Digital, a bitcoin miner that pivoted to AI (also a "Preferred NVIDIA Cloud Partner") with facilities in North Dakota. So they might be involved for a fraction of those 10GW, but it seems like it will be a small fraction even with all the planned expansions.

And then and "I'm {thrilled|so excited} to be here today to announce..."

This time there was more thrill... a lot of thrill.

abstractwater··on TvOS for Developers
I don't think so. Amazon has always been about being everywhere, no matter what devices you use. So I'd be surprised if Amazon doesn't release a (Prime) Video app soon. And it should be ok for Apple too, since they allow an equivalent app on iOS.

That's not the point, and your example is not very fitting. This is a person that just wanted to keep using current services like YouTube.

If "things [really] progress", they should not leave entire groups of people behind. On the contrary, progress is also about lowering the wall that prevents people to get in to the latest and greatest, no matter what their background is. Not raise it.

Interesting to see that those missives show really good grammar, spelling and formatting for the most part, differently from today's standards where orthography has somehow become optional. Even for educated people in this field.
abstractwater··on Show HN: My 1-year project, iPad IDE with GitHub and Heroku integration
Nice job! Just shared it with people at my job.

One minor comment: the text in the screenshots is very hard to read without enlarging, and looks blurry at least in iTunes on my mac. I would make the font a little bigger, perhaps like Textastic or even slightly bigger.

Also, the bright green for the comments is a little too... bright.

This is minor stuff but it affects the first impression a perspective customer might have. An easy fix though. =)

abstractwater··on Super Cheap Virtual Private Servers - the Wild West of Hosting
I've been using ArpNetworks for a year now and I am very pleased with their service. $10 a month minimum, lightly loaded servers, and they also support OpenBSD and FreeBSD on KVM (beside linux) which is great (and rare). Very responsive support too.

abstractwater··on SOPA is dead: Smith pulls bill
You're probably right. My hope is that they will use this time to do their homework a little bit better, but somehow that seems way too optimistic.
abstractwater··on Jonathan Ive on Steve Jobs and the fragility of ideas
Exactly. Apparently Jobs himself gave Ive "more operation power" than anyone at Apple:

abstractwater··on Steve Jobs At Home In 1982
Indeed. Enormous, yet almost invisible.
abstractwater··on The Steve Jobs I Knew
Beautiful article from a true gentleman. I love how he still used the present tense at the end of the clip. Personally, these news haven't sunk in yet.
abstractwater··on Steve Jobs has passed away.
I am truly surprised at how sad I am. Even if I disagreed on some of the decisions made by Apple (App Store review process, etc) he was to me the most inspirational man alive. What a devastating loss.

A part of me can't help to think that Apple is now just a "normal" company. But I hope his charisma and vision will stick and be strong enough to live on for many more decades in Cupertino.

Who was that "Princeton computer graphics intern" and what did he build afterwards?
abstractwater··on Poll: Do you know C?

abstractwater··on AT&T has a fiberoptic splitter copying our data to NSA
I feel the same. What we would need is a telecommunication company that puts the respect of privacy as one of its core goals (think Zappos), and not just in the boilerplate license agreements. Although entering that arena has high entry costs, it seems like a huge demand for such a service exists.
abstractwater··on Who's hiring interns?
We are very actively hiring (interns and junior developers) at Goodreads, in SF:

abstractwater··on Ask HN: Who's Hiring? (December 2010 Edition)
San Francisco, CA

Goodreads - We are looking for engineers (including interns). Preference for Ruby on Rails knowledge but not strictly required as long as you're smart.

abstractwater··on New MacBook Air Specs
Why not a i5 or i7 then?

E.g. the MacBook Pro 15" (i5) comes with a Nvidia GeForce GT 330M.

Does the i5/i7 and related chipset dependencies take up more space maybe? They seem overall more performant and better battery savers than the Core 2 Duo.

abstractwater··on New MacBook Air Specs
Isn't the Core 2 Duo rather old? Why did they use that instead of a more recent i3/i5/i7?
abstractwater··on New MacBook Air Specs
I'm considering the new Air as main programming machine. I'm only leery of the Core 2 Duo processor (why didn't they use i5/i7?) and the glossy display which is not ideal for programming. I will have an external monitor as main display though.

But it's so much cheaper than any MacBook Pro with a SSD!

abstractwater··on New MacBook Air Specs
You can actually configure any new MacBook Air up to 4GB RAM when you buy it.

abstractwater··on Ask HN: I know this isn't reddit, but please review my cannabis-related startup
Simple and nice design; especially spot-on is the periodic table look & feel which is visually easy to remember.

One thing that's a little odd is that from reading the site's content marijuana looks like a 100% perfect drug. I was expecting to find a section about undesired side effects, ideally for each strain, and particularly related to long term usage. E.g. I've heard pot users say that in some occasions they experienced paranoia, or mild depression.
