absrd··on The destruction of Gaza's internet is complete
What could possibly ground your faith in the Israeli government, given the intelligence failure of massive proportions we all witnessed on 10/7? How can you believe that the same government which failed to foresee a massive Hamas offensive on its own border just weeks ago, is now suddenly aware of the exact positions of underground Hamas bases deep within the Gaza strip, and is even privy to phone calls between Hamas operatives?

That's also not to mention the many times Israel has been caught lying to cover its own military actions. You only have to look as far back as the targeted killing of Shireen Abu Akleh

absrd··on How did Israel and the U.S. miss what Hamas was planning?
It's now being confirmed by US official and reported in BBC

absrd··on Silicon Valley needs to stop laying off workers and start firing CEOs
I wonder if you'd apply this same standard to those who criticize politicians.
absrd··on The Google layoffs are about personal ambition and poor leadership
If you're upset that you spend your days fighting rats and not making insane money, I think you should target your anger at your boss who keeps you in that situation, rather than at other workers who have it better than you.
absrd··on “Copycat” layoffs won’t help tech companies or their employees
> it seems insensitive to tell 100k+ ppl Google or Amazon fired them because "well everyone is doing it!"

Is that any more insensitive than CEOs and C-suites telling laid off workers they "take full responsibility" and "had to make a difficult decision" while facing no consequences themselves?

absrd··on OpenAI used Kenyan workers on less than $2 per hour to make ChatGPT less toxic
Do you think then, that they deserve to be mentally scarred without any support and paid less than the minimum wage for a receptionist, on the basis that they are not "equal" to us?
absrd··on OpenAI used Kenyan workers on less than $2 per hour to make ChatGPT less toxic
This is just false, if you read the article Sama also collected explicit, illegal images on behalf of OpenAI -- this was the reason the contract was cancelled.
absrd··on OpenAI used Kenyan workers on less than $2 per hour to make ChatGPT less toxic
If a company acts unethically that is bad, even if it's in the company's rational self-interest. It rings especially hollow when the company's supposed mission is to "ensure AI benefits all of humanity"

The maintenance funding being gutted by 40% seems like the bigger contributing factor here
absrd··on Ask HN: Is there evidence that layoffs work?
Yes, this was exactly what I meant. Poorly worded the question haha
absrd··on Twitter applies 7-day suspension to half a dozen journalists
Which is exactly the position that Musk is supposedly fighting against -- it's almost like he has no actual principles and is at best no different than the people he's replacing
absrd··on Twitter applies 7-day suspension to half a dozen journalists
> rather than on the overall system that makes this kind of censorship possible

What do you think this system is?

absrd··on Twitter applies 7-day suspension to half a dozen journalists
Listen to yourself... the guy literally risked his life saving children who were trapped in a cave, and you think the mere fact that he criticized Musk means that he deserved to be slandered as a pedophile
absrd··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
the reports are up > 20x from baseline, twitter traffic is nowhere close to that multiple
absrd··on Twitter to employees: all office buildings closed, badge access suspended
"burning cash" in this context doesn't refer to the literal burn rate, it's more that he's spending a great deal of money without presenting any clear vision or direction for the company
absrd··on Elon Musk owns Twitter: The story so far
I think he's actually said both of these things.
absrd··on Colleges that ditched admission tests find it harder to fairly choose students

It hasn't even happened and you're complaining about it!

absrd··on Student loan forgiveness will cost US $300B
Ostensibly true but in reality if the business were going to pay their employees anyway, they really could do whatever they want with it. It's free $$$ in the same sense as the student loan forgiveness, yet curiously there is much more criticism on here directed towards the latter.
