abrown28··on Mortality rate for Black babies plummets when they’re delivered by Black doctors
I'm a cynic. I doubt they will follow up since the initial report will be used to arrive at the conclusion most people seem to want anyways. If the researchers do follow up and find a non-racist cause it will be ignored.
abrown28··on School Contractor in Texas Denied Work Over Pro-Israel Loyalty Oath
Asking to affirm you are not boycotting and will not boycott Israel is a far cry from a "Pro-Israel Loyalty Oath".
abrown28··on We Ran Out of Words to Describe How Good the Jobs Numbers Are
When you don't have a job any job is a quality job.
abrown28··on Activist Jailed for Facebook Posts; FBI Tracks Him as “Black Identity Extremist”
I suspect he got the attention of the FBI by being publicly vocal about his hatred of police but was arrested for having a gun when he was prohibited because of his conviction for domestic assault.

Move to Texas and live in a mansion
abrown28··on What Are Active-Shooter Drills Doing to Kids?
I remember drills that had us huddling under our desks because Russia was going to nuke us. Those desks are magical.

abrown28··on Chelsea Manning: The Dystopia We Signed Up For
the murder parts
abrown28··on Rayton Solar: Legitimate Investment or Scam?
I agree you will almost never debate your opponent into a different point of view but you can change the beliefs of the audience sometimes.

For instance I don't mind if you change your opinion on the merit of debating creationists but I'm hoping to sway anyone else that reads this to my point of view.

abrown28··on Rayton Solar: Legitimate Investment or Scam?
a) The debate is happening whether Bill Nye takes part or not.

b) If proponents of proposition A are unwilling to debate proponents of proposition B then proponents of A will be look like they don't believe in their proposition. You need to be willing to defend your beliefs.

c) Debating someone does not legitimize their proposition. I believe you are legitimizing their proposition if you refuse to debate them.

abrown28··on I spent two weeks delivering for Uber Eats and made $4.40 per hour
No one owes you a "living wage". No one owes you a wage at all.

It's the same in the US
abrown28··on Scientists Capture a “Sonic Boom” of Light
By the time I scrolled down the video had finished playing then went to the next video. I then refreshed the page and scrolled down quickly only to find they had added a big banner over the video telling about the next video in the queue. I'm not sure I'm ever going back to smithsonianmag.com

EDIT: Capturing a light sonic boom is still pretty cool though :)

abrown28··on Unsubstantiated Report Has Compromising Information on Trump

abrown28··on [dead]
> I think it was a huge mistake for Trump's opponents to portray Trump voters generally as misogynistic, racist idiots.

Seemed to have worked for Obama

abrown28··on Why you should never use Socket.IO
By that analogy the leading contender will steal my wallet and escape prosecution because of who their friends are.
abrown28··on Video Games Are Boring
Unlike the usual at least this one ended with the author stating they were going to work on the problem. These types of articles usually end by telling me why I am wrong and what I should be doing.
abrown28··on Video Games Are Boring
This article hijacks the history so that in one browser I have to double click the back button to get back to hacker news and in another browser I end up at facebook. It's very irritating.
abrown28··on Ask HN: Is Bash for Windows good enough to replace a Linux/Mac terminal?
I can do almost everything I want in bash except run anything that needs a list of network interfaces. I would like to run gulp with browsersync.
abrown28··on Why I won’t be attending Systems We Love
At one time or another something like this might have moved me but after too many cries of "Wolf!" I've stopped caring.
abrown28··on Why I won’t be attending Systems We Love
I'm old and should know better but it's the same feeling I have.
abrown28··on An ominous American future imagined
"...sporadic left-wing violence..." I think that was a typo. It should have read "never ending left-wing violence"
abrown28··on Thelonious Monk Creates a List of Tips for Playing a Gig (2012)
I would like more backstory on that one.
abrown28··on What it took to save the Twinkie
Fight for 15 will fix it

Except for the salary and benefits they negotiated for.
abrown28··on The Market Fairy Will Not Solve the Problems of Uber and Lyft
The Market Fairy isn't, despite it being a fairy, capable of dealing with imaginary problems.
