From wikipedia: " Microsoft Windows is the most commonly installed OS, at approximately between 74% (based on web use) and 97.03% (based on use for gaming) globally"
I've had to lay off a lot of talented people in my day. Startups fail. Established companies pivot and dissolve business units. It sucks and it happens all the time.
+1...I was going to say that the author apparently has never tasted bacon....everything becomes much simpler after that :). If we judged our behavior based on how intelligent the species is that we are doing something to...I believe war would be a non-starter, no?
I'll add that while PTSD is a very serious problem, it is not a guaranteed outcome of being involved in combat operations - even over extended time periods.
+1 on finding a Therapist and exercise. HIIT per other comments is great OR do medium intensity cardio to the point where you are tired (45-60 min @ 60% of max heart rate)...this will lower your anxiety and help you calm down and sleep. I'd also recommend learning some breathing/meditation techniques - box breathing is good. Anxiety is something you can learn to control with the right training and attention. I'd focus on these before making a major life-change. Medications are useful in the short term while you learn skills/tools. I'd stay away from benzodiazepines unless you are having panic attacks, etc. (they are hard to wean off of and can cause rebound syndrome -> make anxiety worse). You may want to explore high-quality broad-spectrum CBD oil supplementation. There is a lot of info available on reddit, etc.
You dont even have to go to a doctor...there are online testing services that will test vit D w/out a prescription. IO checked mine quarterly for several years.
I'll have to say Neuromancer by William Gibson. Changed my worldview and what I thought was possible. I'm a huge fan of Ian M Banks, Charlie Stross, Ian MacDonald, Cory Doctorow, Peter Watts and older (90's) Stephen Baxter. Baxter's Titan is a great piece of writing - makes you feel the isolation of being millions of miles from humanity
