abi··on OpenAI API Is Down
It's been down for 3 hours...
abi··on GPT-4 generates simple app from Whiteboard photo
Yeah, I've been exploring this generate->error->fix feedback loop along with some test cases on my app builder, and it's quite good but not perfect. It just goes in loops on some errors still.

Hoping to add this to my app (https://picoapps.xyz/) once this launches via API. With Pico, you can iterate on hosted apps via LLM text prompts. Being able to circle a button, and ask the AI to add a gradient background or to copy the style of a screenshotted button should really cool! Excited for what's to come.
abi··on We are beginning to roll out new voice and image capabilities in ChatGPT
Where does it say that?
abi··on Show HN: Transform Logos into Gestalt Images
Yeah, the logo has to be mostly large solid shapes.
abi··on Emoji Generator with AI
Built a version of this using the same emoji model, but without the background removal: https://a.picoapps.xyz/argue-party?ref=hn

Let me know if you have any feedback or feature ideas.

abi··on WeWork Warns of Possible Bankruptcy
Oh wow. Did not know about this. Thanks for the tip!
abi··on WeWork Warns of Possible Bankruptcy
Really great space to work in. And in NYC, there's probably like 30/40 WeWorks so it's very convenient when you have meetings around the city.
abi··on WeWork Warns of Possible Bankruptcy
Sad about this because I have a hot desk membership in New York, and it's an amazing experience that I'd probably pay more for honestly.
abi··on StableCode
What's hard about refactoring it? I sorta get the point you're trying to make, but codegen models generate code, but they also understand and explain code very well in plain language. I believe domain experts are smart enough to solve the problems that crop up and maintain their code with help from AI.
abi··on StableCode
You're missing the point: Natural language can be much a higher layer of abstraction than the programming languages we currently have. It's much faster to say "Add a button to download the output as a PDF" than write JS directly.

You'd be surprised by what regular people can build when you give them the power to create software. Here are a bunch of apps created using my tool/GPT-4: https://showcase.picoapps.xyz Most of our users have never coded before, and are able to build small tools to make their and their customers' lives better.

abi··on Ask HN: How to Find an Accountant / CPA?
hey! I would love an intro to your CPA. Have some tax questions as I'm running a C Corp and buying out my co-founder. I'm based in NY.

Couldn't find an email on your end but hit me up on Twitter if you can intro: https://twitter.com/_abi_

abi··on Show HN: Build GPT-powered apps with just GPT4 prompting
Thanks for pointing that! Will fix it today.
abi··on Show HN: Build GPT-powered apps with just GPT4 prompting
For paid plans, we'll keep it up as long as you're a customer. For free apps, as long as we can afford to :) We're hoping to add custom domains to our paid plan very soon.

What are you looking to build with it?

abi··on Show HN: "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” Reading App for Kids, Powered by GPT-4
Thanks for taking a look!

That's a bit strange that it didn't include the interests you entered. If you refresh the home page, it should probably work. I haven't run into that bug before so perhaps it was a one off thing. We'll look into it.

Yeah, the generic style is certainly something we can definitely improve upon.

Appreciate the feedback! And would love more if you try it with your kid.

abi··on Show HN: "Choose-Your-Own-Adventure” Reading App for Kids, Powered by GPT-4
Hi HN,

Builder of Whimsy here. We built this GPT4-powered storytelling app to encourage kids to read more. We found that kids are far more engaged when the stories are about their specific interests. Some kids loves garbage trucks, some kids love Harry Potter, some kids love unicorns. With Whimsy, you can easily generate a story that your kid will be interested in. Once you pick your kid’s interests, we generate a few stories for each interest and you can pick the story that sounds most interesting.

The stories are also “Choose your own adventure” which adds another level of engagement for kids. It gives kids a sense of autonomy, and gets them more invested in the story when they can choose what happens next in the story.

We’ve had several parents play with the app since we started working on it. The parents and their kids especially have absolutely loved it! I’ve been using it with my nephew who normally would rather watch YouTube than read and he's a big fan.

There are definitely lots of AI-powered reading apps out there but we think we’ve built something that much easier to use. So much so that kids can easily use themselves (there’s no need to “prompt” the AI).

Would love to hear your feedback!

abi··on Things created with GPT-4
Thanks :) Right now, all the code it generates is in a single index.html so no backend.

Would love to try/test your backend thing.

I built a web app that lets you generate simple, shareable web apps just by prompting with GPT4. https://picoapps.xyz

Here are some cool apps people have built with it:

read aloud a wikipedia article: https://backend-pico.onrender.com/northeast-architect matrix animation: https://backend-pico.onrender.com/chair-northeast face distorter: https://backend-pico.onrender.com/drench-virtual simple excel: https://backend-pico.onrender.com/amidst-assurance image to meme generator: https://backend-pico.onrender.com/wagon-woot

abi··on Show HN: Use GPT4 to quickly build simple, shareable web apps
Been using system message with GPT4 and it's supposed to follow that better, but that's a good idea. Will experiment with that.

Cost is somewhere between 1 cent to 10 cents per iteration (follow up iterations include all previous code so it's a lot of tokens).

abi··on Show HN: Use GPT4 to quickly build simple, shareable web apps
Glad it was helpful for you. Yeah, I do intend to keep it up at least for a while :)
abi··on Show HN: Use GPT4 to quickly build simple, shareable web apps
Thanks for sharing! Glad you had fun.

GPT4 sometimes insists on adding commentary even though I told it to only reply with code. I need to add a regex to clean up the response and only put the code into the page. I fixed your code manually to remove the explanation.

Wouldn't you still need some personal identifiers like SSN? Not sure how much voice makes a difference over the phone anyway, it's not like the rep on the other end knows your voice.
abi··on How does GPT obtain its ability? Tracing emergent abilities of language models
Try this YouTube series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAqhIrjkxbuWI23v9cThs... It builds up slowly from the basics and is well fleshed out.
abi··on How does GPT obtain its ability? Tracing emergent abilities of language models
I've been enjoying Andrej Karpathy's YouTube series on neural networks: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAqhIrjkxbuWI23v9cThs...

It starts from absolute basics and goes slowly. I've only watched about half of it and it has already helped me understand a lot of AI concepts that I see frequently spoken about.
