abdel_nasser··on Why salt was so important throughout history (2018)
people fail to recognize that people ate a lot less back in the days that salt was so precious. they also ate a lot more fat. eating less and having more protein and fat meant that they had less insulin in their blood and also more ketones in their blood. insulin tells your body to hold on to things including water and when you dont have a lot of insulin you lose more water and sodium with it. and ketones are a diuretic which promote the loss of water even more.

sodium replaces insulin because it also causes your body to hold on to water. so it was very important because you needed it to offset lower insulin and also because you were losing it much more. if you didnt have access to salt back then you would have become very ill.

a modern person who eats almost nothing but sugar in one form or another and in enormous quantities has so much insulin that they barely need any sodium unless they drink large amounts of water. we even tell people to have less sodium. but earlier people werent that way.

abdel_nasser··on Reversal of cognitive decline: A novel therapeutic program
in patient one they list fasting for extended periods of time and also "MCT effects" which refers to the administration of MCT oil. so in other words, this is a very convoluted way of doing what the ketogenic diet does. the fact that the ketogenic diet can reverse alzheimers in part or in full has been well established by Dr. Mary Newport. as well as it can be without support from the mainstream medical establishment -- they refuse to conduct proper studies on it out of sheer stupidity and stubbornness. i add "stupidity" because of how long theyve let the oversight go for.

ketosis does something to the immune system. in many people who have schizophrenia, touching the immune system sometimes has a direct impact on symptoms. there is a famous case of a young man whos symptoms went away after having his bone marrow removed as reported in the NYT. the articles goes on to connect many interesting cases and facts that orbit this idea. its official everyone, the NYT knows more about medicine than your doctor. another article, published by a practicing harvard psychiatrist in psychology today, presents three case studies of schizophrenics who go into remission upon entering ketosis. other people find fleeting relief after donating blood and thus diluting their blood. and blood dilution has been shown to directly impact tons of things at UCB especially things having to do with aging. its an indication of whats to come. our own bodies are producing inflammatory molecules that cause disease.

i have schizophrenia and i can say that these things are true and i have tested them.

whether AZ disease improvement upon entering ketosis is due to inflammation reduction or metabolic improvements due to using BHB rather than glucose in some cells, im not sure anyone knows.

i wonder if any doctor will stop to reflect on his own behaviour for a single second after he hears that the titan of AZ medications, which reduces plaques, does not fucking work? people like me have been saying for ages that AZ is caused by metabolic dysfunction and the plaques are a downstream artifact. well now the evidence against them and for me is so massive that they will have to write it in the sky. pure vindication.

abdel_nasser··on Maryland nuclear engineer and spouse arrested on espionage-related charges
i recently read "the bomb in my garden" by mahdi obeidi (sic) who was the head of the iraqi uranium enrichment effort under Saddam Hussein. they started out with nothing and had to do everything from scratch. they were able to spin their centrifuge up to 20k rpm or something like that before it flew apart. you need 50k to enrich uranium. spinning a tube at that speed requires sophisticated machinery and knowledge that can only be gained after decades of hard work. but Saddam insisted that enriched uranium be produced in only a few years in light of the situation with iran. and when he insisted something be done, people would do it or else be killed. and so this required the enrichment engineers to seek equipment and knowledge from more advanced states. its amazing how casual the process of getting these things was for them. at one point they gathered data from a book in the stacks of a college library, a book that was not meant to be lent out to anyone who wasnt willing to provide ID, by simply asking the librarian if she could hand over the book really quick just to be sure its the right book. a lot of the things that stand in the way of people trying to do these things arent super specific but are just things like having the ability to machine metal within a certain tolerance or produce bearings that are within a certain spec. but they they did get their hands on some very important design documents that allowed them to succeed in producing enriched uranium in a very short period of time. its a fantastic book.
abdel_nasser··on Suicides among Swedish men decreased after Viagra became more affordable
and divorce rates skyrocketed right before a swedish divorce reform of some kind went through which made it less financially beneficial for women to initiate the divorce. and this surge of divorces was, as always, almost all women initiating.

i was shocked to see videogamedunkey on the front page of hackernews a few weeks ago. there is a huge influx of redditors in the past year and a half. why do you think the admins introduced classic mode? its because they are acutely aware of this, despite constant denials, and are trying to prevent the site from becoming, well, facebook eventually. full of LCD.

for middle america, 5G will take care of areas that have shitty service because of widespread stupidity and ignorance that is typical of the midwest. starlink will take care of areas that have shitty service because they are very rural or remote.
abdel_nasser··on MIT study finds Tesla drivers become inattentive when Autopilot is activated
there is no study, including this one, that supports what you are saying. one of the challenges is that the driver often, "often" where is this often coming from? do you sit in with drivers and watch them? they often do this. you are completely making that up.
abdel_nasser··on MIT study finds Tesla drivers become inattentive when Autopilot is activated
lex fridman, who is directly involved in this study, has said that people using FSD are actually more attentive when the car is driving itself. he said it on one of his recent podcasts. this is why "water is wet" is so unbelievably annoying. the truth gets stamped out because people want to believe their own rhetoric rather than meticulously confirm their beliefs with science. this study is shoddy as hell but it aligns with what tesla detractors want to believe so it goes totally unchallenged.
abdel_nasser··on MIT study finds Tesla drivers become inattentive when Autopilot is activated
people complain about, for example, people looking at the road slightly less often when using FSD. but people are out to lunch when i point out that i see every other driver on the road craning their neck over a smartphone. people point out that FSD crashed into things. but they are out to lunch when i point out that people crash into a hundred things every day because they are looking at their smart phones, doing their makeup or drinking alcohol. its just a flaccid argument that people are being endangered because they might misinterpret the unmistakable warnings and reminders in teslas self driving system, thinking it could do more than it does. when i can go to an average american bar at last call and not see a swarm of people stumbling into their cars -- or when i can look at other drivers and see 1/4 of them staring at their phones rather than 1/3 -- then i might worry about it. if you have a shred of intellectual honesty, you will campaign against things that actually endanger drivers rather than something that not only is relatively safe but gets safer with every year and stands to save countless lives if it works.

abdel_nasser··on Matrix trailer dynamically uses current time
people on reddit have noticed that different clips are played each time you view either pill. ive clicked the pills maybe 20 times so far and theres at least one new clip each time. it looks like they pre-rendered for each time and spread out a ton of clips across all those times. so the computers that are serving this just have a ton of videos and change which ones they are giving out once per minute, compensating for time-zones. pretty simple. but a great result. i feel like this is the most compelling advertising ive seen in my adult life.

i think its interesting that they chose the pre-rendered approach to this. pre-rendered and FMV is a very interesting space right now. there seems to be a revival stirring. take for example "at dead of night." its a horror game thats pre-rendered and uses FMV and does it perfectly to stunning effect. people liked it, markipliers lets play got something like 7M views IIRC. and the previous game by that same person was a full FMV murder mystery game and it is very compelling indeed. nobody has seen these concepts fleshed out in the modern world where storage is dirt cheap and video games are taken seriously. new life is going to be breathed into these concepts and i think it will be very exciting.
