What does closed source mean in this context? The weights are open and the model architecture has to be open for people to use it for inference.

Do you mean it's faster when the embeddings are pre-computed or is it faster when the embeddings are computed on the fly as well. Also, what's the recommended way to store the colbert embeddings as, because of the 2d nature of the embeddings it's not practical to store in a vector database.

The assignments in the old course are in matlab. There are also unofficial assignments available in python. They can also be submitted for grades in coursera. You might want to have a look at them.

I applied to Minodes two months back. An initial Skype interview was scheduled by Tobias with a developer but no one showed up at the time of interview on Skype.

I dropped them a two e-mails asking them if they wanted to re-schedule or if my candidature was dropped for the position but received no reply.

That's pretty rude I'd say. I expect it a common courtesy to inform the candidate if have already rejected him without the interview and not waste their time, or at least send them an explanation / rejection later.

I mostly use floydhub for its ease of use.

Colab from google lets you train over GPUs for upto 12 hours for free, However it takes a while to setting things up esp pytorch and I'm not a fan of the UI.
