I've been following these developments closely. One question that I was hoping someone here could comment on; what are the international law ramifications of the Russian soldiers not wearing insignia? I was under the impression that the lack of displayed insignia during a conflict strips them of many rights to protection if captured etc.
With the NSA graph it's worth noting that HN posts with 'NSA' or 'Snowden' in the title are known to be down-graded by the site's ranking algorithm. Can't remember where the source for this is right now.
When the data that was stolen crops up on a forum somewhere, can someone please make one of those stub-websites that helps you check if you got stung by the breach?
For this reason I tend to position myself behind the nearby traffic pole relative to traffic on my side of the road while waiting for the 'cross' light.
I don't understand how everyone here was able to read this article - I browse to that link and get a message telling me it is locked behind a paywall, requiring my subscription before I can read it. Do all HN readers also subscribe to the NY Times?
I'm from Australia. My wife and I regularly use Expedia and other US travel websites to book Australian domestic flights - even after our exchange rate conversion it still works out cheaper (often we save one or two hundred dollars). Australian airfare taxes are insane. The only downside is when things go wrong it is expensive to spend ages on hold while making an international call...
Interesting, the website links states that INTJ's are less than 2% of general population, yet they consist of about 30$ of responses to this poll, confirming HN is not a standard subset of the general populace.
I noticed ODE's and PDE's are not on the list. I consider them a natural progression in mathematical understanding, perhaps following on from Advanced Calculus.
Why do these lecture series keep showing up on HN? It seems every month now they are re-posted. I for one have no interest reading about Physics (I dropped that major for a reason!)
It's a side view of the milky way - our galaxy. You can see it at night if you look up, and you live far away enough from a large city or light polluted area.
