a_carbon_rod··on Trade (and Tariffs)
The Trump Administration first used the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to declare a national economic emergency and impose tariffs on countries under the pretence that they were economic threats to America.

The Supreme Court ruled against the tariffs because while it allows the president to regulate foreign imports as a measure against economic threats; it does not specifically grant the president power to impose tariffs, duties or other taxes which is typically a power that belongs to Congress.

The tariffs on Canada are now being imposed under Section 338 of 1930's Tariff Act which allows the president the authority to apply up to 50% tariffs on countries the president finds has "discriminated", directly or indirectly, against the United States.

a_carbon_rod··on Getting 25 Gbps Thunderbolt Ethernet on My Mac Studio
I have the SABRENT USB-C to 2.5Gbps adapter as well (also bought late 2024) and can echo this sentiment. I had it connected to a M3 Pro MacBook Pro and could never get anywhere close to 2.5Gbps from it. I never found other complaints at the time either and was starting to blame poor wiring in my walls until I replaced it with Ubiquiti's 5GbE adapter (which I believe uses a Marvell controller) and that has been rock solid for me.

It can, by right clicking the desired message to edit. This is in macOS Sonoma, and I believe was a part of Ventura as well.
a_carbon_rod··on Reddit’s blackout protest is set to continue indefinitely
I agree with your point but there definitely is some brigading going on by the "pro-blackout" crowd. I moderate a small-ish subreddit (~6500 subscribers) and while our poll to blackout received overwhelming support including from well-known members in our community, I definitely noticed that after sharing in the /r/ModCoord thread our intent to blackout the thread started receiving a lot of supporting comments from questionable brand new accounts (or accounts with low karma/had never interacted with the community before). And this was without linking the thread at all - these users were clearly coming to the subreddit, finding the post and making pro-blackout comments to push the community towards a shutdown.
a_carbon_rod··on Intel Foundry Services and Arm announce collaboration on SoC design
I made a similar transition as you earlier this year from a i7 8700k/GTX 1080 Ti Windows desktop to a Mac Studio and much like you I'm very happy with that decision for a lot of the reasons you already described.

One of the more interesting aspects of the switch I hadn't considered though is that it actually (positively) impacted my power bill - I'm paying about $5-$10 less per month since the switch.

The difference in form factor is welcome as well - some days I find myself astonished at how much power fits in such a (relatively) small box on my desk.

a_carbon_rod··on Apple cuts Tim Cook's pay 15% for missing sales goals
Does Apple include that cable with either the iPhone or the MacBook though? I consider it to be unreasonable to expect consumers to fork over more money to connect two devices from the same company to one another.
