I checked Chan Yi Lam’s Wikipedia page. It was ruled a suicide. The conspiracy theories surrounding this case are absurd and out of control. People even challenged her mother’s identity, forcing a DNA test to be done, and yet the crowd still continued to harass her mother.

I will not called Jimmy Lai as principled based on how he run his news outlet. You can just simply check on wikipedia his reputationa and his news outlet reputation. This is one from Jimmy Lai https://hongkongfp.com/2020/11/02/explainer-apple-dailys-jim...

It’s hard to see Jimmy Lai purely as a victim. Much of his “martyr” narrative appears to be constructed by Western media as part of an ideological battle. From what I remember in Hong Kong, Jimmy Lai had a rather shady reputation. His media outlet was widely known for publishing paid-for stories, spreading misinformation, harassing news sources, and sensationalising sex scandals.

His original intent in setting up the news outlet was often said to be market manipulation for personal gain rather than journalism. He was also known for publishing xenophobic content targeting mainland Chinese. One of the most controversial examples was running ads that portrayed mainland tourists as “locusts” and called for them to be driven out of Hong Kong.

In addition, he donated money to prominent US neoconservatives. I’m not sure whether Western media are unaware of his earlier background in Hong Kong, or if they are deliberately choosing to whitewash his reputation.

"The very fact that you can't have any political party of the CCP makes it undemocratic."

This claim is not accurate. I'm currently reading The Search for Modern China, and I was surprised to learn that there are, in fact, eight officially recognized political parties in China — all operating under the leadership of the CCP. One of them is even called the 'Taiwan Democratic Self-Government League.'

It depends on your budget and interests. In terms of sensor size, Micro Four Thirds (from Olympus and Panasonic) is generally the most affordable, but it comes with a smaller sensor. APS-C offers a middle ground, while Full Frame is the most popular and typically delivers the best image quality.

Personally, I use Sony APS-C the most because of its smaller size, lighter weight, and more affordable lenses. Among APS-C systems, Sony and Fuji offer the widest lens selection. Fuji gear tends to be overpriced now, but it does have a stylish look.

Micro Four Thirds lenses are usually cheaper and more lightweight.

If you're shooting fast-moving subjects like birds or Formula 1 racing, Canon and Nikon are the most popular choices. They offer a wide range high performance lenses designed for demanding situations.

I can see a noticeable loss of detail in the iPhone sample photos. Personally, I prefer cameras that prioritize capturing more detail over simply producing visually pleasing images. Detailed photos offer much more flexibility for post-processing.

Then how is that any different from what the USA has done. Bombing and destroying many countries in the name of spreading democracy?

They are still better than most US news outlet.

Where do you get your news from? I cross-checked your comment with Wikipedia. In the Sanlu case, the executives were sent to jail, and they were ordered to destroy their stock because Sanlu was on the brink of bankruptcy. Life imprisonment and the death penalty don’t exactly sound like a slap on the wrist to me.

The school molestation cases began as rumors from two parents, but real abuse was found and the teachers were jailed. The CCP launched a nationwide kindergarten audit—seems like a fair response, especially with so much fake news online.

There is a market for Chibsons—not everyone is willing to spend on expensive instruments.

As a beginner, I’m too much of a cheapskate to drop $9,000 on a musical instrument. I can’t even play properly or distinguish the right tones yet.

I agree with you that, at my current skill level, my ability to express creativity and individuality is limited. But I’m okay with that. For now, I just want to enjoy learning to play the music I love. I’ll consider upgrading once my skills improve.

I am not learning guitar.

Some of these criminals suddenly claim to be CCP spies or victims of political or religious persecution to avoid extradition.

These illegal scams are based in Shwe Koko, which is under the control of the BGF and they are not influenced by the CCP. The scam center is operated by a 14K triad leader who fled to Portugal in 1997 to escape China’s anti-triad crackdown. He is likely holding either Macau or Portuguese citizenship.

The 14K triad was originally founded by former Kuomintang generals as an anti-communist action group. In the past, they were heavily involved in transporting and distributing drugs from the Golden Triangle. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/14K_(triad)

What do you mean by Asian companies? Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai companies have very different cultures. As far as as I known East Asian cultures are less expressive than the US. Being blending in and not drawing too much attention to oneself is often seen as a virtue, whereas in the U.S., standing out and asserting oneself is more encouraged. Indians are different though.

Ps. Most people will take your words at face value and dismiss them.

what is the motive? I did not see any pattern from the op's history post

You should provide more reliable and trusted sources. The link you shared here originates from Falun Gong, a cult.

It can be good for some and bad for others, especially as someone who is not born in China but is of Chinese descent. I usually avoid sharing my opinion on geopolitics outside the family and prefer to keep to myself if I prefer Chinese brands over Western ones to avoid being judged. The government can use the law to target Chinese-born individuals, and initiatives like the 'Chinese Initiative' make me more cautious and aware of my race.

It was similar for China—Mao launched the nuclear bomb program after the U.S. threatened to use nuclear weapons against China.

I checked Wikipedia to learn about the Social Credit System, and according to the article, no such system exists as described. Most assumptions about it seem to be based on misinformation from Western media. Could you clarify what you mean?

In my home country, Indonesia, many of us were not aware of the scale of the genocide of the left, or the massacres of civilians after World War II and the War of Independence. Most people pretend that it never happened and avoid discussing it. Only recently have people started talking about it, but they often face backlash.

Additionally, you will not find books on this topic in the local library.

I think it is normal for a community to choose selected amnesia.

Yes, this is what happens in Singapore. There is a requirement to post job vacancies on a government job portal for a certain time before a company can apply for a work visa. Many companies maintain ghost job vacancies just in case.

Are you trying to say this is good or bad? Reddit's worldnews community seems to have a significant number of Israeli supporters, to the point where fake news.

Turning Taiwan into another Ukraine? After a few years, the U.S. might lose interest in Taiwan, and the Taiwanese would pay with their lives. Most Taiwanese just want to go on with their lives and maintain the status quo.

These are FalungGong. I will not trust Falun Gong's news on China. They are known to create conspiracy stories.

I am unsure which era of Chiang Kai Shek you are referring to. Multiple warlords ruled CKS-era China. CKS did not have any power in North China. CKS capital was Nanjing. The CKS era was full of war with communists and other warlords.

CKS had the full support of the US.

I was deliberating between purchasing a new iPhone or a camera. I opted for a camera because of its more affordable price and longer lifespan. Bought an almost new, second-hand Sony full-frame camera complete with a lens, It was less than $1.5k.

In South East Asia is common to speak multiple language too. All my family member can speak at least 4 languages. Most of SEAs can speak at least 2 languages.

Which part of Taiwan did You visit? I visit Taiwan yearly. Only those night vendors served tourist area speak basic English. Futher away from Taipei my English less useful. Doing business with English is painfully slow. I dont speak Mandarin I usually rely on my basic Taiwanese dialect.

In Malaysia it is depend on which part of Malaysia. Not all Malaysian Chinese can speak Mandarin. Certain part speak Cantonese or other dialect.

This sound too much of a conspiracy. As as South East Asia I think I can relate why Hollywood movies are less popular now. Instead of feel entertained we feel tired bombarded by political messages that we can not connect to. The Hollywood plot : a chosen one that always right is not appealing. There is no hard work to be better. Majority the viewer are hard working middle class that try to have a better life. K-drama and Chinese Drama are hugely popular. Watch for fun crappy budget Chinese web movie are popular too.

As a amateur runner. I want to thank you for your service.

YouTube recommends different things from one country to another. It is the same for news and other entertainment site. For some content I have to use VPN. I think it is either due to legal issue or recommendation algorithm not brainwashing.

I was recommended porn-related stuff maybe it is because of my usage pattern or my geo locations , and maybe it is the same things with Tiktok, American like to see stupid things.
