_shantaram··on Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (September 2026)
Location: Bangalore, India

Remote: Yes. I have worked remote-only for six years across US and EU time zones.

Willing to relocate: Yes, with visa sponsorship.

Email: mailto:me@shantaram.xyz

Résumé: https://shantaram.xyz/dl/resume.pdf

GitHub: https://github.com/xyzshantaram

I am looking for Rust/systems work, protocol engineering, agent/coding tooling, or hardware-adjacent software. Open to contract or full-time work.

At my current job, I own nostr-canvas[0], a runtime for running untrusted third-party mini-apps inside compatible Nostr clients, written in Rust and run via WebAssembly. Sandboxed Lua scripts, mini-apps called Tiles, receive explicit capabilities, with capability enforcement implemented in Rust. This means a revoked capability takes effect inside the running worker. I also gave a talk[1] on it at bitcoin++ Nairobi in June 2026.

The same plugin runs in three independent clients with no shared UI code. I also wrote the specification: one NIP plus 26 numbered modules with a dependency graph and three conformance levels.

While working on this, I found and fixed a garbage-collector memory leak in the pure-Rust Lua interpreter [omnilua], and landed the fix upstream[2].

I also built Tile Studio[3], a vibe-coding environment for nostr-canvas applications.

Outside software, I have PCB design and fabrication experience, including an ESP32 Nostr remote signer and a Trezor Model 1 recreation modified for USB-C on the STM32F205. I designed, manufactured, and sold one of these as a complete product[4], including enclosure CAD, firmware, backend, instruction leaflet, and the USB programmer used during assembly.

More recently, I have been working on tooling around coding agents in the form of aidos[5]: a ticketing and verification system built on DeepSeek Harness. Tickets move through a state machine with transition checks that prevent work from being missed and require work to be verifiable. I have also contributed upstream fixes to DSH and plugins in its ecosystem.

Technologies: Rust, TypeScript, C, C++, Lua, Python, WebAssembly, sandboxing/capability security, plugin runtimes, language tooling, AI development tooling, Nostr, Bitcoin protocols (PSBT, Taproot, BIP-375), Deno, Node, React, Postgres, SQLite, Linux, Docker, ESP32/ESP8266/STM32, EasyEDA, OpenSCAD.

Deno has that! Come join us :P no affiliation, just a happy user.

I think it could call (their equivalent of) clearRect up to 9 times on an already cleared region before drawing there?

Alas, Babylon by Pat Frank is another great book in a similar vein.

Chiming in to second this, Pump Six and Other Stories left me with a deep, deep sense of dread after I finished reading it. Highly recommended, such an underrated collection.

This is superb. Thanks for sharing!
_shantaram··on White House alters arrest photo of ICE protester, says "the memes will continue"
As a foreigner, I'm super interested but somewhat lacking in knowledge on this subject. Could you expand on this being the repercussions of the bailout? I felt scammed when I read about it and my country wasn't even very heavily affected by the crisis (I was a wee lad back then though).
_shantaram··on Android and iPhone users can now share files, starting with the Pixel 10
> Cross platforms, really? So for example between a Blackberry and a Windows CE phone?

Yes, it was part of the Bluetooth file transfer spec[0] and possible between any two devices that implemented it correctly.

You can get a $15 hot air station and it's fine for getting quite a lot done! Look for clones of the Atten 858D. And come say hi in #electronics on Libera :)

_shantaram··on Campfire v4: cozy, minimal web framework for building interactive web apps
Hi! I've spent the past few weeks rebuilding my web framework with a bunch of new stuff and I'd love to hear what you all think! It's got fine-grained reactivity but tries to stay as close to the DOM as possible (all methods work with HTMLElement and standard JS features) but still provide an easy-to-use API, and fits in under 5kb gzipped. A lot of the methods and utils can also be used on the server, though there isn't really anything SSR-specific yet.

Source code is on GitHub (https://github.com/xyzshantaram/campfire), PRs welcome :)

So, the website is essentially an HTTP interface for managing an MQTT broker. You create an account, make a "room" (application concept, not part of mqtt), and then put your account name and the room secret phrase into the device (it throws up a captive portal). The device then uses these to connect to the broker to an MQTT topic that's sha256(secret) and from there it's just simply passing messages between devices.

McDonnell Douglas seems to have gotten it done, from a quick skim of [1]. It appears they ran out of funding and the program was cancelled. According to the same article,

> Elon Musk stated that the SpaceX Falcon 9 development was "... continuing the great work of the DC-X project."

So...

It feels like a lot of people in these threads form their opinions of what desktop Linux is like these days based on one poor experience from back in 2005.
_shantaram··on Ask HN: What tools do you use to manage your freelance projects?
I just have a long text file with notes of all different things in it which I grep through as necessary for todos etc. But for time tracking I didn't really like what was available so I (shameless plug) built etu[0]. It's free and open source and I quite enjoy it.
