_sabe_··on How Seinfeld's Productivity Secret Fixed My Procrastination Problem
I've been thinking about asperger syndrome as I've always been inbound and never acting out. Besides I've got a cousin diagnosed with quite severe asperger. But then again, a lot of people are mentioning ADD here.
_sabe_··on How Seinfeld's Productivity Secret Fixed My Procrastination Problem
I used to think this way too. For every project I tend to learn a lot of new things, which has a value in it self, even tough I never finish the entire project.

But during the last years I've been switching work places and having constant trouble fitting in to social constructions, and I keep thinking I would be much happier being self-employed. And to do that I need to start following trough.

I know this thread will be old by then, but i wouldn’t mind hearing what the psychologist had to say as I've been thinking seeing someone too. So if you don't think its too private, pleas share!

I actually did drop out of University for the same reason too.
_sabe_··on How Seinfeld's Productivity Secret Fixed My Procrastination Problem
When it comes to work or school I've always managed to do what's expected even if it's sometimes a struggle. But as soon as I'm left with only my own expectations to fulfill, that's when I hit the wall.

I was okay in school, nothing out of the ordinary. Always did my best, but never a talent. But what I noticed is that the more I learn in a subject, the more of a perfectionist I become and the longer It takes to accomplish a task (which sounds like a paradox).

_sabe_··on How Seinfeld's Productivity Secret Fixed My Procrastination Problem
I used to think I had a procrastination problem, but my problem has never been getting started. For example, if I come up with a new personal programming project I dig right into it, and I also keep it up for a long time. But I still can't manage to follow trough. It's like I settle for such great perfectionism that everything ends up taking an unreasonable amount of time, and in the end I give up because it's not practical anymore.

Nobody else who can relate to that?

_sabe_··on Tessel: The end of web development as we know it
Let grandpa tell you a story...

Once upon a time Javascript was this fragmented language, mostly associated with blinking effects, pop-ups and lame attempts to protect a web page from being viewed as pure HTML. After years of misery the community was tired of how things was and said, "No more"! And so html-tables and javascript was sent to a zip-drive (you probably won't remember those, think of it like a SD-card) to never be seen on the web again.

But evil people who sold out to the dark forces was destined to bring javascript back. By making frameworks they masked the incompatibilities of the language, making it seem like a friend. And the young people who never fought the war, they welcomed this new technology with open arms.

But seriously, we took a typesetting language made for writing documents (just like word) and turn it into a technology for making software. It turned out into a total mess, and now you wonder why taking a language made for manipulating the DOM and using it for manipulating the stack is a bad idea? "When all you have is a hammer..."?

_sabe_··on FastMail staff purchase the business from Opera
I used to use Opera because of it's privacy features. Being able to have different configuration of javascript, cookies, referals, content blocking and so on. Now with Opera 16 all these features are gone.

How do you increase you're competitive abilities by removing everything that made you unique when you're already the underdog? :S

_sabe_··on What is the best comment in source code you have ever encountered? (2011)
There's a lot to be said about programmers, but in how many other professions do people actually feel like crying for not finding the best solution to a problem?
_sabe_··on Ask HN: What will happen when everybody uses an ad blocker?
I do understand this, but then again you can't both have the cake and eat it too. At the end of the day, maybe it's better to have ads at all if the alternative is getting blocked by users.
_sabe_··on Ask HN: What will happen when everybody uses an ad blocker?
Actually, the main reason I block ads is not because I can't stand ads, but because I don't want to be tracked and traced around the web, and also it turns out that as most of this ad-systems are based on extensive javascript and flash, blocking them makes most news sites load so much faster.

There's a very easy way to solve this problem for websites, and that is to host the ads from the main site. That would make it harder to track you across the web, but also harder for you to block content without braking the functionality of the page.

This in combination with how ad networks like The Deck works, with beautiful exclusive ads per page is the way to go.

_sabe_··on Lessons from GitHub's First Year (2011)
I think the deployment-analogy is bullshit. Todays web services like facebook, instagram, github... seems to think it's more important to push new fetures in a rapid phase, than actually make sure you don't break something. At any given time you can go to any of these services and find some part that is temporary broken, and I can't understand when this became a acceptable practice??

But guess what, bullets might be cheap but good will is not!

It could still be a bit of both. This particular case might probably be a coincidence, but from a business perspective it would also make perfect sense for Google to keep some control over the device.

_sabe_··on The theory guy never wins
And what is the definition of winning? If you're a theoretical problem solver, you are probably getting your kicks from doing just that. And that's "winning" for you. Now if you only care for money, "winning" would naturally be when you reached your goal of making some. But a lot of people probably would consider winning just getting by being in the moment doing what thrills you (like thinking about how to make the product even better).
_sabe_··on The theory guy never wins
And what is a entrepreneur anyways? Feels like the definition has shifted from being someone who has the job of starting up new businesses, to just running a business at all.
