_def··on OpenAI agent hacked Australian government website, PM says
Don't worry we will just replace laws and courts by ChatGPT itself!
_def··on Can gzip be a language model?
Fun topic but generated article text and then not even actually using gzip? Rubs me in a weird way.
_def··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
> Apart from "it's been so successful we can splash money on a design agency"

Which could be an important signal for you to decide if that's the kind of event you want to go to. Maybe the comic sans fayre is preferrable to some.

_def··on Show HN: Macros with a Behringer FCB1010 MIDI Pedalboard in macOS
I always thought using something like this for debugger shortcuts could be fun
_def··on Rope, twine and thread: Invisible technologies of the Stone Age
Thanks for putting words to the concept, "mental 3d rotation skills" describes exactly what I feel I lack to a degree where it noticable impacts other fields, I assume.
_def··on The Malicious Use of Artificial Intelligence
> bits don't degrade

While that is true the knowledge cutoff will rot as the rest of the world continues.

_def··on Douglas Hofstadter: Analogy as the Core of Cognition [video]
I kind of hate to say it but stuff like that makes me think religions had partly found some important concepts with unconditional belief in forgiveness and such. Otherwise there are perspectives where human existence just don't have much meaning.
_def··on List of references on Sony websites to players "owning" their digital games
what was the disney+ incident? /gen
_def··on DHS 'Predictive Policing' Unit Is Analyzing Americans' Financial Habits
They understand that they don't need to care as long as there are enough others getting eaten before them.
_def··on ZX Spectrum: Experimenting with 1-Bit Sound

_def··on D2 Is Non-Profit
I'm confused - why is hackclub (a project dedicated to teens) financing this project maintained by an openai infra person?
_def··on The "$60 Gaming PC" – AMD BC-250 (2025)

Some of the smaller llm models run on it too but in practice the memory is way too limited for that use case.

_def··on Audacity 4.0
Hopefully there will be a selfhostable implementation of their cloud counterpart someday? Maybe only a weekend of vibecoding away.
_def··on Audacity 4.0
While I agree tbf it could be much worse
_def··on Audacity 4.0
I just started the appimage - it asks you to login to the "cloud" but also offers a prominent skip button, and then asks if you want a telemetry UUID or not.
_def··on Just Bury Your Trash
> a conventional cotton bag needed to be reused 173 times to beat plastic

So what? That's like a year of grocery shopping maybe. I easily use a tote bag for way longer than that and I'm not trying that hard to live an environment friendly life.

_def··on Show HN: Linux server management over SSH – written in Rust and Tauri
Is this shipping wasm openssh or how does it work?

edit: nvm, for some reason I thought it runs in the browser.

_def··on The Twelve-Factor App (2025)
I don't know. I've seen lots of "architects" conceptualizing just overly complex structures.
_def··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
Nightmare fuel. This sounds like totally worthless to me.
_def··on It’s so hard to finish an idea that is not yours and is just suggested by AI
Taking the notes (and being able to read them again if I want) is all I need from my "second Brain". This perfectly can be pieces of paper, as long as i can carry them around with me. More realistically some digital notes software fulfills that requirement.
_def··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
Fully agreed. I have yet to encounter someone who is claiming something elss and is not privileged enough to just not need to worry about this. Ignorance doesn't reduce the political tech entanglement, it just... ignores it. Which is fine, do whatever. But don't claim it's not related.
_def··on It's Not the End of Programming
Well I can't wait until I don't have to hand code at work anymore. I also can't wait until I do something else for work.
_def··on Remotely Unlocking Electric Scooters
> None of it matches the real company.

oh well don't worry, these companies are basically off the shelf business

_def··on Vomit: Clean up Claude 5's token output with a separate LLM
The linked blog post has an example at the end. I think it made it much worse.
_def··on CIA funding helped keep NeXT afloat in the 80s
is archive.is dead?
_def··on Hacking with Claude on a $27 Smart Watch
Yay, I wanted to do the same - glad someone did work on it and shared it! Thanks! Although I think what I've learned is that I actually don't like wrist bands, so... yeah.
_def··on Risk Engineering
Oh, the legendary backup restore drill? I'm sure it will happen someday ...
_def··on Simulacra and Simulation
Or the complete opposite ;-)
_def··on Ornith-1.5: From Self-Scaffolding to Self-Improvement
What did you use it for? I've found it somewhat capable but not worth to actually use it (1 9B, that is)
_def··on Win-V combo from Windows on Ubuntu
