_bramses··on Ask HN: Share your personal site
https://www.bramadams.dev/

My goals with my site were:

- a site that is the HOME of all of my work as my interests evolve over time as a creative technologist

- have it be fast

- have it be minimal for writing with markdown + react (mdx)

- have it be maximum in fun (if you are on desktop check out https://www.bramadams.dev/projects/akuma-no-ko or https://www.bramadams.dev/projects/kh if you are on mobile check out https://www.bramadams.dev/stories)

- self host images and videos (cloudflare images + stream)

- a running dev log (https://www.bramadams.dev/projects/dev-log)

Obsidian has a similar issue, but the open a random note feature does a great job of resurfacing old notes

"why are people acting like Wordle was some Marxist utopian co-op that got bought by Monsanto"[1]

my fav tweet from all the vitriol a solo developer is getting for selling their personal project

I wouldn’t go that far, but I see your point

That’s cool man, I understand
_bramses··on Zettelkasten – Luhmann Style
I love how there are two separate Zettelkasten posts on the front page rn. I've been adding to mine for almost six months now. My Zettelkasten[1] has made me smarter, able to see connections where I wouldn't before, has improved my working memory and writing, and has given me a way to create a world from my mind that others can experience.

Every mind NEEDS a Zettelkasten!

_bramses··on Why do comments exist in every programming language?
> It may well be true that everything in unbounded recursive formal languages can be expressed in regular human language, but the opposite is not true

Is this statement implying that human language is recursive? I'm under the assumption that it has recursive elements, but it's not recursive in the strictest sense of the term. If anything, as anyone who's written a book can attest, language feels reactive and emergent, as opposed to funneling towards a base case.

_bramses··on On Comments in Code
Wanna jump in here and say I'm working on this exact problem using GPT-3. The results when added to other dev tools have been really inspiring, and I'm learning how flexible comments can be when addressing the "why"[1] instead of just the "how".

_bramses··on CoMDe: A GPT-3 Code to Markdownizer
Thank you for the input! I'll create a more visible video. In the meantime, here is a GitHub Gist of the MD file created by CoMDe.

The header is in the format: (filename) - (temperature used): (Language)

The text that follows is the result from GPT-3. Below that is the highlighted code block.

_bramses··on Ask HN: Those who quit their jobs to travel the world, how did it go?
I tried it, and had a different experience than most I presume, because I got sick pretty much immediately [1].

Overall, I think that it comes down to time management, and expectations. The world is a wonderful place if you are prepared for both its beauty and its uglier sides. You see both while nomading.

_bramses··on The Presence of One’s Own Smartphone Reduces Available Cognitive Capacity (2017)
I actually use two phones. One is an old one I planned on recycling, but now I use it as my "focus" phone. The only apps on it are: Forest, Spotify, Kindle, and the ones Apple won't let me remove.

When I'm working I put my main driver phone in another room entirely. This strategy has been doing wonders for my focus, and I still get to jam to my favorite tunes while working.
