_blz2··on Robinhood to buy back Bankman-Fried’s stake for $605M from U.S. government
Not the customers, but FTX lenders investors. There are likely tons of lawsuits filed by them to claim their piece of the govt seized assets. Its up to the govt to decide whether to help customers or investors and lenders.
_blz2··on Why Japan has so many ‘never travelers’
ironically saying Japanese are xenophobic is xenophobic
_blz2··on Michael Burry shorts Major index in sizable bets
That 723M$ figure for nasdaq is not the worth of the put options themselves, rather the value of the underlying shares that the contracts represent. He likely has 20K put options each for $SPY and $QQQ. No one is going to bet 93% of a portfolio is index puts. They're likely hedges worth tens of millions, not 1.5B$ in put options.
_blz2··on Why San Francisco Is a Homeless Mecca
another thread where 'more housing', 'we must do more', 'politicians aren't doing enough' is the proposed solution. Lol. The simplest explanation is the love for drugs, and the lax laws against crime, and the removal of ability of people to defend themselves (ban on open carry). Whether HN likes it or not, it is progressive politics (voted in by the residents) which led to this. Which makes it really an SF problem and no one elses.
_blz2··on Bram Moolenaar has died
This is indeed a huge loss. I've used vim for over a decade now. Configuring and tinkering with it was and is always the first thing I do when I get a new machine. He's also a good person from the small amount of interaction I've had with him on github.
_blz2··on Oregon decriminalized hard drugs – early results aren’t encouraging
Well drug abusers also have the right to adopt kids. Not sure how any sane society should be tolerant of that.
_blz2··on Oregon decriminalized hard drugs – early results aren’t encouraging
Why do you think everyone should get voting rights if there is a section of the society who want to actively harm themselves. What are their votes reflective of?
_blz2··on Oregon decriminalized hard drugs – early results aren’t encouraging
The HN/reddit stance on "war on drugs" and drugs in general is proof education and common sense don't have as much correlation as is commonly thought of. These forums kept bringing up Portugal for more than a decade and when finally the results were seen, the new favorite psyop they're shilling is "the govt isn't doing enough" and "we must do more". Lol.
_blz2··on As Actors Strike for AI Protections, Netflix Lists $900k AI Job
So they are like the software engineers who work on things like web-environment-integrity? Not sure why that calls for any sort of sympathy.
_blz2··on Google engineers want to make ad-blocking (near) impossible
what has fascism got to do with ad blocking?
_blz2··on TSMC warns over deepening slump in chipmaking sector
They said AI chips are just 6% of the production output. They said the AI demand is not significant enough to offset the cyclical downturn in semis demand.
_blz2··on Children of alumni no longer have admissions edge at Carnegie Mellon, Pitt
what business is the university in? Education or selling sports tickets?
_blz2··on Tokyo Is the New Paris
Has it occurred to you that maybe that is the reason Tokyo is a high trust society and a safe city compared to non-conservative 0-trust and dangerous American cities?
_blz2··on LazyVim
That's just the plugin manager, lazyvim. github.com/LazyVim/LazyVim or github.com/folke/dot/nvim might be more useful to see how to get the most out of this neovim 'distro'.
_blz2··on LazyVim
lazyvim is the package/plugin manager and LazyVim is the distro
_blz2··on Once hailed for decriminalizing drugs, Portugal is now having doubts
For the last 15 years I've seen western media pushing pro drugs propaganda and whining about muh 'war on drugs' citing Portugal as an example model that could work. Guess that narrative was just that, a narrative.
_blz2··on Apollo is dead. Long live Apollo
Centralization of internet forums was always going to end like this. I hope this accelerates the decline of Reddit dot com. The moderation and the censorship is pretty much universal across the large boards. You will find tons of deleted comments on anything which challenges the common view remotely. Can't say I'm not glad the site is going down, or enough alternatives pop up.
_blz2··on Titanic director James Cameron accuses OceanGate of cutting corners
> and this is just the tip of the iceberg

Sometimes these are enough...

_blz2··on Goodbye, San Francisco
Those who caused this (voters) will simply leave and blame everyone else but their own political views.
_blz2··on Shreddit is a Python program to remove all your Reddit comments
> sub has been brigaded

> past administration

lol. One trip to Portland is enough to see how disconnected the sub's mods are from the reality.

_blz2··on America has paid a steep price for parking
For the love of god, please stop using cooked numbers to justify violence.
_blz2··on TikTok is now banned in Montana
A platform that allows unhinged free speech would be more in line, but tech players wouldn't pursue it citing hate speech/advertisements and would outright ban it.
_blz2··on Meta to unveil fresh round of job cuts among highly skilled staff
how would a scraper work for free if access is rate limited?
_blz2··on Block: Inflated user metrics and “frictionless” fraud facilitation
How are you confident in your opinion without even knowing the name had changed a couple of years ago?
_blz2··on First Republic Bank files 8-K – Tech only 4% of total deposits; no sector >9%
Makes 'Tech' look like a hot potato no one wants a piece of. Fun times.
_blz2··on Bank run on Silicon Valley Bank
Famous last words
_blz2··on Bank run on Silicon Valley Bank
It had 198B in deposits end of 2021. Market cap may be less, but a bank run is quite significant.
_blz2··on Facebook LLAMA is being openly distributed via torrents
because it is effective in keeping a certain type of people out
_blz2··on Lab leak most likely origin of Covid-19 pandemic, U.S. agency now says
well is it a conspiracy or not? The suppressing of calling it a lab leak?
_blz2··on Social media is a cause, not a correlate, of mental illness in teen girls
Maybe become a full time father? Dual income is to blame here since parents started thinking schools are day care for kids until they can be kicked out of home for college. Men shouldn't shy from stepping up if traditional roles of mothers are eroding.

Edit: should -> shouldn't
