_6wbq··on Australia Bans Generative A.I. From Official Music Charts
Comment on the video page of the song that sparked this:

“ No lol. We don’t need more over privileged musicians leading luxurious lives while the rest of us slave away. I’d rather support this if leads to less inequality.

No more Rihanna’s and Guy Sebastian etc”

_6wbq··on Ask HN: Where else do you spend time on the internet other than HN?
True. Updated question.
_6wbq··on I spent $266 and four AI models to own my tablet. GLM-5.3 finished it in a day
Can someone make an extension that runs articles through ai writing detectors and adds a score next to the title or a community vote on it? These clearly ai infused articles keep getting to the front page.
_6wbq··on China joins Europe in scrapping Windows for Linux
Probably not what the original creator was imagining or hoping for.
_6wbq··on MIT requires every student to know how to swim. But why?
Yes this makes no sense
_6wbq··on Will you have spent more of your life with computers than your family?
I think quality can only come from quantity in this case. The every day moments
_6wbq··on Will you have spent more of your life with computers than your family?
Hope you can find a place in the real world you can feel at peace in.
_6wbq··on Will you have spent more of your life with computers than your family?

_6wbq··on AI;DR (AI; Didn't Read)
You hit the nail on the head.

I thought this was: I summarized with AI; didn't read.
_6wbq··on Stripe will reportedly acquire OpenRouter for $7B+
How can a middle man for api calls be worth so much? Their market share can’t be very large right? For comparison, $7B is more than market cap of Lyft, Dolby, and Alaska Airlines. What is happening?

_6wbq··on Models Are Getting Dumber on Purpose
Learning new things for example, general curiosities, text processing
_6wbq··on Models Are Getting Dumber on Purpose
Sounds like unix philosophy. Or like Neo downloading Kung-Fu. Good either way.
_6wbq··on Models Are Getting Dumber on Purpose
With all the focus on coding and agentic use, I wonder if the rest of the world will notice or care? Most AI use is not for coding or harnesses contrary to what this website thinks. Maybe this is how American companies stay winning.

For example I prefer Kimi K2.6 1T parameter to Flash V4 0731 230B parameter, even if it is less intelligent.

_6wbq··on The weekend is 100 years old
I didn’t consider that. What I maybe meant is feeling owned by time rather than existing in it. In the past time wasn’t even a concept really. You just went about your life, realized you changed and the sun moved, but nothing like we have now with days of the week, constantly knowing the minute of the day, calendars locking us in months ahead of a day arriving, etc. I believe community can definitely thrive without clocks, however I understand your point.
_6wbq··on The weekend is 100 years old
Interesting. Do you feel constrained at all? That does sound nice and much more peaceful. I think it’s hard to imagine the change when many have been sold the story of moving to the big city becoming successful, living an exciting life in your 20s, 30s.
_6wbq··on The weekend is 100 years old
For the elders here, what are the actual ways to not live under the rule of an industrial clock?

I’m not talking about starting your own company get rich quick scheme or moving into the woods (unless..), but really, I don’t see many ways about it. You could move somewhere rural, lower expenses, but then you are socially isolated to an extent. So, move to where people are, oh but then the only way to support the lifestyle is a standard job with security. Having a family is a whole different requirement almost making it “irresponsible” to not have stable income, hence time restrictions. Then again there seem to be a small population of explorers who live radically different lives or simply try to enjoy their work or switch jobs. Really struggling with this question.

_6wbq··on Cultivating a state of mind where new ideas are born (2023)
Well of course but there are many ways to survive very close to “just being” that are seen as not fulfilling potential or a wasted life. It’s not a full binary but living close to one end is shunned and we internalize it as a waste of space when really it is more sustainable for the planet and mind.
_6wbq··on Cultivating a state of mind where new ideas are born (2023)
Interesting thank you. Mirandola is still modern in my eyes. Btw I really enjoy marginalia. Helped me find Tom Murphy [1], which I’m kind of basing this being modern off of, through the explore page. Crazy full circle moment.

_6wbq··on Cultivating a state of mind where new ideas are born (2023)
Why is there always a self-imposed need to extract something from ourselves instead of just being? I really hate this in the modern world. Maybe one of the worst defining traits of industrial times.
_6wbq··on Intel CEO hints at return to the memory business – market is ripe for innovation
Fast affordable memory could change the world more than a lot of things.
_6wbq··on Qwen3.8 27B
DeepSwe score is 42.2. For comparison 3.6-27b is 13.3, GLM 5.2 is 44, and Opus 4.8 is 59.
_6wbq··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
They will cost an insane amount as well. Maybe less than subscriptions or tokens. But running massive models on laptops with batteries and poor cooling doesn’t make much sense.
_6wbq··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
Thank you for your response. Part c was especially insightful. Quite a smart way to do it and makes the possibilities of post training seem almost endless. Makes sense that you just need more time and compute.

A positive feedback loop then. RL->better model->better RL pipeline -> better model…

And we’ve only recently started getting into the much better RL pipelines

_6wbq··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
Can’t this be extended quite far? Use a cerebras-served model, use verification techniques to generate and solve millions of problems and then use that as training?
_6wbq··on GLM-5.3: Frontier coding with emergent cyber capabilities
People familiar with the topic, how will models continue to get better? Post training it seems? Labs have already used up internet-scale data, so are there any limits to architecture improvements and post training or can we expect this trend to continue? ByteDance is training a 10T-parameter model. Here, GLM 5.3 outperforms models 3-4x its size of roughly 700B, so parameter count doesn’t seem to be a direct correlation anymore.
_6wbq··on How Compaction Works in Pi
Can someone recommend a Hermes alternative that is less token hungry? Pi did not work well for my use case.
_6wbq··on Accelerating GPT-5.6 Sol Ultrafast
Would be extremely interesting if some of the closed models would be that small. Means maybe in future they could run locally.
