ZhannaSchonfeld··on Show HN: Visualize Fitbit steps with Notch
This is cute idea. Seems like I would be more motivated to keep up my fitness with this type of breakdown.
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Ask HN: Designers, please open up the library of stuff you've collected
go to http://www.designmoo.com and http://www.365psd.com and also a freebies section on http://creattica.com
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Ask HN: Well designed product blogs?
also tapmates is quite nice http://tapmates.com/blog/
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Ask HN: you want HOW much for the design?
Speaking as a designer, it's simply a case of you get what you pay for. The designers on dribbble are very very high quality, best of the best, well-known names in the industry, so there is a reason why they charge that much. If you can't pay their rate, you aren't their type of client. Besides, I wouldn't start there if you are just looking to get something up. Themeforest or WooThemes is a good option, you can get someone (or yourself) to do minor modifications the psd files to suit you.

My own rate is $80/hr and depending on the job one page usually takes me around 8-10 hours. Don't underestimate the power of UI design...you are looking for conversions, after all. It helps, too, if you do a little research on why and how good design works in your favor. Having that knowledge will give you leverage and prevent you from being overcharged for sub-par work. Best of luck.

ZhannaSchonfeld··on Is a new tech bubble starting to grow?
Good old Useless Today, doing what it does best...being useless.
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Ask HN: What are your best life hacks?
The best life hack advice I ever got was  from my first internship. It was at an engineering firm and as I was sneaking out the back stairwell for a cigarette (yes, I was a smoker for a brief period, shame on me) I ran into an engineer and he asked what I was doing, so I made something up and said I was running an errand. I returned his question, "what are you up to?"

Engineer: "I'm carrying a clipboard"  Me looking confused. Engineer: "if you ever want to look busy, just carry a clipboard...."

Worked every time!

ZhannaSchonfeld··on Ask HN: Burned out. How can I make the most of a sabbatical leave?
I agree, my husband started yoga classes after I've nagged him to get active and he's now in much better metal and physical shape. It's an amazing difference, he's calmer, happier, and looking good, too. Plus it's the one thing he really looks forward to during his free time. I personally think any form of exercise is a good way to decompress.
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Making a Simple Dribbble Alternative
I really like the simplicity of you app. I have not been "blessed" with a dribbble account either, but I do have forrst and lovedsgn accounts. The problem is, I always end up posting pretty much the same stuff to both accounts, and I find that the people that frequent both sites are pretty much the same, and dribbble as well. I wonder if there is something you can do to differentiate it from "the big three". Perhaps a rating/feedback system that's different than "likes" to captivate useres?

I really like what you have going, I'm just offering my 2 cents :)

ZhannaSchonfeld··on Flowchart : Should you work for Free?
This reminds me of when I see ads on Craigslist for a logo designer, with a budget of $20.
ZhannaSchonfeld··on Why Chinese Mothers are Not Superior (from a female Chinese engineer)
No Jewish mother does what Chinese mothers do, according to the original article. I'm Jewish, by the way. No Jewish mom would deny her bubbeleh dinner. EVER. I'd like to add that I wish my parents would have pushed me more.

How did Jews become a part of this, anyway?
