Zardoz84··on Coding is not solved
> you have AI make code, AI review code ... I hope you can see the stupidity here...

You will be surprised how many times, catches errores made by the AI coding agent. However,as you point, isn't deterministic. And you can guarantee the end results is 100% fine code

Zardoz84··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
No. it's just the opposite of Hyper-thereading. SMT it's about maximize the resource usage of a CPU, running 2 or more threads at the same time. AMD used the opposite technique of SMT. It had a technical name that I can't remember now, and wasn't invented by AMD.
Zardoz84··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
I did run a multithreaded CPU only n-body problem resolvers in FX cores. So heavy double precision work and putting each core to 100% . A Fx-8370E would get a speed up around 7.5 times Vs the single threaded version A FX-4300 would get a speed up around 3.9 times Vs the single threaded version

So in a physical heavy computation task, involving double precision math (where the AMD design of share FPU units should penalize most), the FX cores where happy churning numbers with the expected speedup Vs a single core/thread version of the code. So stop saying that FX cores sucks at multithread. They fucking worked fine on that kind of tasks.

Zardoz84··on How did AMD Ryzen get 50% faster in two years?
I just was to say the same thing. I had a good experience with a FX-8370E. They go for too many cores to early, and sacrificed some of the CPU performance to do it. The gamble gone wrong...
Zardoz84··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
perhaps was 60hz interlaced. I had memories of my first CRT monitor only allowing to do 1024x768 in interlaced and doing a very obvious flickering. But was flicker free at 800x600 and lower resolutions.
Zardoz84··on The Effect of CRTs on Pixel Art (2024)
c&c Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 used Boxes instead of sprites. But yes, PC pixel art was easy to see in the late 90s, specially in RTS games .
Zardoz84··on AI-generated posters don’t have to be horrible
Simply, don't use AI to generate posters and pay someone to do it.
Zardoz84··on Lucasart's Afterlife
I played SimCity 2K without reading the manual as a kid.
Zardoz84··on Recreating Voodoo Graphics and a Late-1990s Gaming PC on an FPGA
I remember playing Star Fleet Academy demo on my 486DX5@133 and a Trident 3d SVGA card at slow motion in battles. The game requires a Pentium 75 or 90 and a DirectX accelerator.
Zardoz84··on ZX Spectrum: Experimenting with 1-Bit Sound
It would be interesting if someone could implement or adapt Roman Black's BTC algorithm to model the Speccy beeper. https://www.romanblack.com/BTc_alg.htm
Zardoz84··on Show HN: OpenTIE and OpenXWA, Modern Ports of Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
I personally like to play with the graphs of the Totally Games version of Tie Fighter but with the iMuse music of the original. it's the best experience.
Zardoz84··on Show HN: OpenTIE and OpenXWA, Modern Ports of Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance
I wouldn't call xwvm a mod. It's a reimplementation of the X-Wing alliance engine .

> XWVM is a facilitator app to play Star Wars X-Wing from Lucas Arts and Totally Games. > We are re-implementing the executable to extend the game beyond its original hardware support.

Zardoz84··on Serve Markdown to AI Agents with Accept Headers
Not my problem. Currently my problem is the high traffic of bots that kills our web apps and don't respect robots.txt or meta tags . We are currently deploying Anubis.

Zardoz84··on HTML Can Do That
I always try to develop having in mind that some people have disabled JavaScript or isn't running the last version of Firefox or Chromium bases browsers. So if someone enters with disabled JavaScript, keeps having the basic functionality of search, navigate and download. I do webservices for public digital libraries that shares public domain stuff and I true believe that always should be accessible to everyone.
Zardoz84··on HTML Can Do That
Sadly, Firefox for Android don't support <datalist>, needing a polyfill.

Also, I run in issues where clients like to customize the style of the <datalist> drop-down selector in desktop. However, it could be styled, the element itself, and with the help of a little JavaScript that makes this visible element I lay when needed and accesible.

ingesting....but not was like "Star trek project" something like this. DR-DOS evolved from CP/M-86 and they added. And "Star Trek" added to DR DOS a multitasker named "Vladivar" (and a port of System 7 GUI). If I remember it correctly, there is these multitasker in DR-DOS 7 that allow pre-emptive tasking in 32 bits protected mode.

I found a funny irony that in the country of free market, a calculator model was enforced nation wide in the schools. Here, in Spain, the teacher would only ask to the kids to get a calculator. They never ask for a concrete model or brand. Perhaps, they will only go ask to not get a programmeble calculator.

I agree that you not need to have more powerful calculator. A cheap Casio or HP calculator it's enough for the 99% of time. I keep using my old Casio from my formative years. It's in an interesting calc. Powerful enough to write formulas and complex calculations, but can't store formulas or programs. Just in the nice spot that allowed it to be used in exams.
