>>I also doubt a Vbulletin-based solution is going to fly with this audience.

Webmasterworld uses a traditional forum software like vbulletin and it works quite well. Audience of HN and webmasterworld are not very different by standards.

Curious to know PG's opinion on this.

Trial and error.

Wow, thanks.

I submitted because Alexa is fairly accurate with very high traffic sites, and the drop in HN's rank and reach seemed to coincide with Google Panda roll out.

Can't we have something like this? -- Those who want to see points, could enable it, but then they would not be allowed to upvote/downvote. OR they could still vote, but their votes won't be counted (or given less weight-age?).

Does it serve the purpose for both the sides? What are the potential caveats in this?

Color could rebrand as Social.

What about profits?

What's wrong with -ly names?

Great. Thanks :)

And you are saying this based on.......?

Could you share what was the process like? TOI people contacted you or you contacted them? phone interview? email? Really interested in knowing this. Thanks.

[Edit] I myself was contacted by a national hindi newspaper, but it didn't work out.

So many of you already knew about it, am I feeling left out :(

BTW, subscribed :)

When credit cards are involved you really need to prepare for the worst case scenario.

There was a similar thread couple(?) days back, PG replied. Search.

Spamming projects?

A call to action below images should work quite well too, IMO.

Steve Jobs all over again? :)

Sitemaps?

4.1 billion usd please!

Word on the street is it's 85 billion $ now.

Does that mean webmasters over-represent the people on reddit who are interested in underage porn (okay, borderline)?

Not a good use case. Long shot.

I didn't get you, how can a domain sound like a squatter's site?

At an average selling price of $650 (including accessories), that's $650MM of revenue for Apple.

They should publish the list of blocked domains and let people decide whether banned sites are really spamy.

I believe it's more of a PR stunt. Few weeks ago they banned 20 big sites which they considered spam like ehow.com and experts-exchange.com. Now I do agree that these sites do not have top notch content, but I am able to find my answers on these sites on frequent basis.

.. and it's down right now.

My guess: $80mm

iOS?

Yes.
