XnoiVeX··on What have we lost? [video]
What else comes to my mind: OS/2 Warp, NeXT OS, SGI IRIX
XnoiVeX··on Why cancer cells waste so much energy
I know a few friends who take NAD booster supplements. Does it increase their chance of developing cancer? Just curious as there seems to be a connection based on what I read recently.
XnoiVeX··on TSMC and Graphcore Prepare for AI Acceleration on 3nm
It may not be generally true but _it is_ true for the smallest possible feature so it's not entirely incorrect either.
XnoiVeX··on Why it’s hard to kill the Bloomberg terminal (2019)
There is a lot of trading chatter on Discord. Predominantly the younger and more tech savvy investors (or should I call them traders?).
XnoiVeX··on A TCP/IP Tutorial (1991)
I really like Doug Comer's books on the topic. https://www.cs.purdue.edu/homes/comer/netbooks.html
XnoiVeX··on The Board reduced reserve requirement ratios to zero percent effective March 26
It is not clear if this is temporary. I do not see an end date just an effective date. Does anyone know?
XnoiVeX··on Bloom Energy blew through billions promising cheap, green tech that falls short
I've been following Bloom Energy for several years. The promises still remain promises. Collin Powell was on the board when I took notice of them first.
XnoiVeX··on A Map of Mathematics
Reminded me of this. https://www.sciencealert.com/this-mind-boggling-map-explains...
XnoiVeX··on Turing-NLG: A 17B-parameter language model
Quite possible but that also means that there is an opportunity to implement some sort of RL to choose the best possible summary.
XnoiVeX··on Illinois governor signs law capping insulin costs at $100 per month
Ignoring the right versus privilege debate, It's just humane to provide resonably priced access to a drug that was invented many decades ago the price of which was artificially kept high by abuse of the patent system. The R&D cost of which is certainly fully amortized by now.
XnoiVeX··on Ask HN: What are some interesting projects to reuse your old devices?
I use an old Ipad (retina screen) with Dakboard free edition stuck to the refrigerator as a family calendar and photo frame. It works really well with open weather and google photos, google calendar integration.
XnoiVeX··on My fridge has an RFID chip in the water filter, so a generic filter doesn't work
The is the same argument used by people who buy SpeedQueen washer dryers. But the technology in them is woefully old and not to mention very inefficient in its use of electricity and water.
XnoiVeX··on Show HN: Write a private diary using good old email
Isn't this exactly like https://posthaven.com/?
XnoiVeX··on Show HN: Digital Carburetor Synchronizer (C, Swift)
Finally some real HN content! Has anyone else noticed a drop in the quality of submissions recently?

XnoiVeX··on Corporate debt nears a record $10T, and borrowing binge poses new risks
Excellent analysis by Deloitte. https://www2.deloitte.com/us/en/insights/economy/issues-by-t...
XnoiVeX··on Unknown Fund: Investing and donating to support anonymity
Good thinking. This smells fishy.
XnoiVeX··on Don’t Take Their Word for It: The Misclassification of Bond Mutual Funds
Many individual investors have stayed away from mutual funds for quite some time now. There are better ways to invest your money imo. If the high expense ratios, hidden load charges, and diluted returns were not discouraging enough, this will help firm up that decision.
XnoiVeX··on Ask HN: What is your ML stack like?
Is there a specific reason why you chose shainet/crystal?
XnoiVeX··on Renaissance Technologies
So much negativity in this thread. We fear or doubt what we do not understand I guess.
XnoiVeX··on New York Fed Adds $115.14B in Short-Term Liquidity to Markets
I found a convincing answer here connected to delays in raising the debt ceiling among other things like corporate tax payments in Sep.

XnoiVeX··on New York Fed Adds $115.14B in Short-Term Liquidity to Markets
Why isn't anyone talking about the liquidity squeeze?

The Fed has said nothing about which entities had trouble borrowing in the repo market. It has only discussed a couple of suggestions why banks might have refused to lend to the repo market, and has said that it is still investigating why banks had refused to lend to it. The whole thing is still shrouded in mystery, and speculation is all around it.
