Xiol32··on AI hype is over. AI exhaustion is setting in
How are you running llama on the XTX? I have the same card and getting local LLMs running was always such a pain I've not tried in a while.
Xiol32··on GPT-4o
Have you actually verified anything you've learned from it, or are you just taking everything it says as gospel?
Xiol32··on Why you can hear the temperature of water
Macbook plugged into a non-grounded charger.
Xiol32··on [dead]
Whatever you're doing with AI is not going to be fast enough to use in my jq pipelines, not to mention it's likely sensitive and I'm not sending it off anywhere for processing.
Xiol32··on Descent 3 Source Code
Inverted Y players unite!

Descent also contributed to my ruined brain, along with Flight Simulator 95. Cannot play without inverted Y.

Xiol32··on How much faster are the Gnome 46 terminals?
Finding it really hard to get off Tilix myself.

Alacritty feels fast but they refuse to add support for tabs or tiling. They just say to go use tmux but that isn't the answer at all.

Kitty is quite nice but if you SSH into machines a lot, all hell breaks loose if they don't have the kitty terminfo files installed, and doing that isn't always possible. You can override TERM, but honestly don't have the patience for it.

Xiol32··on Spotify to hike UK subscription prices in May
"Spotify is reportedly increasing the price of its Premium subscriptions to claw back the money it has splurged on audiobooks."

So I have to pay more for something I don't use?

I don't want podcasts, I don't want audiobooks, and I sure as hell don't want courses in my music streaming app.

Spotify should have just stuck with music. No need for all this other crap to be rolled in.

Xiol32··on A mechanical keyboard with programmable knobs and full color screen panel
"The year of the knob" did give me a chuckle. Almost as bad as that crypto company that called themselves Nonce Finance.
Xiol32··on What Restoring a 30-Year-Old Nintendo Taught Me About Right to Repair
Fuck Medium.
Xiol32··on I Fucking Hate Jira (2022)
Could be worse, you could be using Azure Devops.
Xiol32··on Pkl, a Programming Language for Configuration
Really glad it wasn't just me. Genuinely thought someone was trying to make a joke.
Xiol32··on A ghostly radio station that no one claims to run (2020)
Which way is it biased?
Xiol32··on Microsoft Teams outage causes connection issues, message delays
So nothing out of the ordinary, then.
Xiol32··on Can autoimmune diseases be cured? Scientists see hope at last
You also can't get functionality back that you lose to your autoimmune disease if you later decide you've had enough and start treatment.

Preventing that damage in the first place is the key.

Xiol32··on Apple's Testy Developer Relationships Threaten to Hamper Vision Pro
What else are you doing with it? What's the killer app?

You'll want background music while doing whatever it is you're going to do with it.

Xiol32··on What Bed Linen Can Teach Us About Usability
This is how we do it with our King size cover. It's more of a struggle given the sizes of everything involved, but the inside-out method is the best I've used so far.
Xiol32··on Tallest wooden wind turbine starts turning
Unfortunely it seems these 'wooden turbines' also use fibreglass blades, which is a shame.
Xiol32··on How big is YouTube?
YouTube also seems to forget what videos I've watched, so I end up having videos recommended to me that I've already seen.
Xiol32··on Goodreads asks users to help combat 'review bombing'
Valuable if you want to find people bedwedding over LGBT representation or empowered women, sure.
Xiol32··on Evaluating new software forges
We run a self-hosted Gitlab Premium instance installed with Omnibus for 30 devs and we actually install Gitlab updates on a cron.

Had two upgrades that needed minor manual intervention in 5 years. Uptime better than Github despite the #yolo approach.

Xiol32··on Android phones can be taken over remotely – update when you can
December's update isn't available on my 7 Pro yet.

Xiol32··on Piracy Is Back: Piracy Statistics for 2023
Is this really surprising?

When it was just Netflix charging a few dollars a month for loads of content, it was great. It was easier than safer than pirating, and people turned to it in droves.

Now content is spread over dozens of streaming services, with price rises happening annually and cost of living biting hard for the average person. Most of the time, you only want a handful of shows from a given service anyway, and some of those services aren't even available in your country.

The only way to combat piracy is to make it harder than just paying for content. We were there at one point, and now the tables are turning again.

Xiol32··on Pushover Turns 10 (2022)
Big fan of Pushover. Use it for personal notifications from my own monitoring systems and a handful of applications I used regularly. Never paid anything other than that one-time fee. The ROI on that $5 I spent on it has been incredible.
Xiol32··on Lobsters
Would be less of a ghost town if they allowed sign ups rather than via invitation only.

Appreciate that's kinda the point of the site, but if it's a ghost town then it's clearly petered out.

Xiol32··on Community Contribution at GitLab
We do self-host but features are still gated behind licensing.
Xiol32··on [dead]
Maybe the owner should tone down the bellendery?
Xiol32··on Community Contribution at GitLab
Still pissed they dropped their Starter licensing tier. It had all the features above the free version that we needed and cost (I think) $4/user/month.

Then they dropped that tier and forced us to move to the next tier up which was $19/user/month (now $29 it seems?) and filled with features we don't need or want.

Needless to say we're currently in the process of moving to an alternative.
