Willingham··on Control iPhone with the movement of your eyes
I too tried this for a short while and was not impressed. However, I can’t help but wonder how ‘good’ I could get at using it if I invested more time in it. Would love to hear from someone who truly uses this tool regularly. Flying a plane is also quite cumbersome the first 15 minutes.
Willingham··on Ask HN: How to deal with a serious mental health breakdown?
The most you can do for him is to take care of yourself so that you are the best version of yourself if he reaches out for help. In the meantime, staying in contact and having normal “how’s the weather” conversation is important, so that you are not talking about the serious stuff every time you talk, and so that he doesn’t feel like you are cut off from him. Lastly, Al-Anon is very helpful to folks who have loved ones with mental health issues, not just alcoholism, if I were you I would try that out as well. I have an uncountable number of people in my life who have benefited from various 12 step programs.
Willingham··on It might be possible to detect gravitons after all
When you mention nuclear forces, are you referencing weak force and strong force? Do we understand these forces at the same level that we understand electromagnetism?

Interesting choice of music for Harvard!
Willingham··on Why I still blog after 15 years
Hi OP, the typeface on your site is one of the most aesthetically pleasing I’ve encountered. Would you be open to sharing its name?
Willingham··on McDonald's Japan Launches First AI-Driven Commercial
Not a good looking commercial. There are many other ways to cut on production costs and still make a commercial better than this one. Something tells me this wasn’t about cutting costs, but rather a C-level exec finally getting to play with his AI toys in front of a captive audience.
Willingham··on "Frost crack" sounds may come from sky, not trees
In grade school I read a book called ‘The Hatchet’. It was a story about a man who survived a plane crash near the arctic circle and had survived many days on his own with not much more than a hatchet. He experienced these sounds after a number days in the harsh wilderness and thought it was gun shots and that he was going to be saved. The book then went on to explain that it was the trees cracking from the extreme cold. I was mesmerized by this as a kid. Knowing now the true origin of the ‘frost crack’, I’m twice as captivated.

Willingham··on Gunshots reportedly fired at Donald Trump rally; walked off-stage
Trump immediately knew how good this was going to be for him in the upcoming election, His arm-pumping gesture is perfectly in line with his well known and highly egoic personality.

Minnesota must really be compensating for something!
Willingham··on The Toxic Consequences of Attending a High Achieving School
I second this, ultimately a large part of who we all are is who we are surrounded by(you run with the wolves, you get fleas). Sure 40 hours a week is spent on school grounds with various teachers and students but the other 60+ plus waking hours is often with family.
Willingham··on Super Heavy landing burn and soft splashdown in the Gulf of Mexico [video]

Willingham··on Post-quantum cryptography is too damn big
Quantum resistant cryptography seems like the ideal choice for cryptocurrencies, interesting that only a handful have implemented this.
