I’ve thought of LLM’s as google 2.0 for some time now. Truly a world changing technology similar to how google changed the world, likely to have an even larger impact than google had as we create highly specialized Implementations of the technology in the coming decade…but it’s not energy positive nuclear fusion, or a polynomial time NP solver, it’s just google 2.0
The pressure to hit quarterly targets seems to, in this case, caused quite the opposite outcome intended. Gotta love corporate America and the overvalued AI sector. (:
I rather enjoyed that I got to make the discovery that the particles were coins, moreover, I enjoyed dropping STRAIGHT into the game without having to read anything or press any buttons. Lastly, this worked flawlessly on my iPhone, bravo to the work you did to make that happen!
The man had all the knowledge necessary for recovery, but faith without works is dead. Happiness cannot be caught directly, it comes to us only as a byproduct through thinking of others and what we can do for them rather than of thinking of ourselves or comparing ourselves to others. Then, following up that right thinking with unselfish constructive action. I have found in my experience this to be an un breakable law of the universe, as true as gravity, and frankly speaking, equally as probable as all things subatomic…
Great article, allowed me to learn about multi version concurrency control which I had never heard of, and in researching the topic I learned about optimistic concurrency control which I found even more interesting. It seems these two could be used in conjunction; OCC for efficient updates. MVCC for clean reads. Excited to play with these patterns in future projects (:
Researchers Thomas G. Kaye, Gary Gaugler and Zbigniew Sawlowicz found that Schweitzer's samples(The T-Rex soft tissue you mention) contained framboids, and the apparent soft tissue was essentially pond scum. Through carbon dating, the team also determined that the material was modern, not prehistoric. http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjourna...
I imagine it could solve crimes if it watched millions of hours of security footage…scary thought. Possibly it could arrest us before we even commit a crime through prediction like that black mirror episode.
My point is, we have used nukes, so we know exactly what the worst case scenario is, and that’s about 20-50 million lives(hitting Tokyo or NYC). Equal to the number of deaths during the Spanish flu or half of world war 2. I think the comparison helps us understand what the risk truly is. I think the world would panic and likely loose more lives through chaos than the actual impact.
The impact to society would be much greater on a sociological scale then on a physical scale, many nukes are more than 8Mt, the likelihood of it hitting a highly populated area is lower still.
This reading helped me a great deal in understanding this community when I joined, and it appears it’s been over a year since its last repost! I hope many of you get to read this wonderful educational piece by minimaxir for the first time like I did years ago, Cheers!
Sentenced to 1 year and 15 days for stealing the Mona Lisa, what a laughable punishment compared to today’s standards.(also, Picasso was accused and never convicted, Vincenzo Peruggia was the actual thief that was convicted)

During the months I’ve spent writing this book, I can assure you that this joke gets funnier the more you hear it.
I love to read books like this rather than the AI generated slush that seems to be so abundant today. This author has done a great job here. Although I have to say, it is sad that I feel like I have to ‘audit’ everything to see if it’s written by a robot before I invest too much time in it /:
Wouldn’t the end game here be that the AI just writes straight to machine code? It’s not like some devs are safe, those who maintain coding languages would be out of a job too. I think AI would find it awfully silly to have to code up a language, maintain it, then turn around and use that language to code with. Bare metal AI seems like the end game to me.
I don’t believe LLMs will replace my software job anytime soon because my clients are unlikely to entrust their VPN, server, or database credentials to a non-human entity. The level of trust required simply isn’t there yet, and I believe it will be a decade or more before it is. I believe we will start to see a new label on SAAS products similar to ‘organic’, and ‘non-GMO’ that signifies LLMS won’t be directly working on your on prem servers or any of your databases.
I think the way people buy homes here in America is no different than the way we consume other goods. Two things matter above all else in the decision process: 1. What other people think of us(although we refuse to admit it) and 2. indulgent, first world, luxurious comfort.
