WhereIsTheTruth··on How I Defeated an MMO Game Hack Author
not every 'cheats' are equal, some lets you get an unfair advantage in PvP

but for most people, its because it provides some nice quality of life improvements, example:

- improved inventory management

- auto loot

- quest tracker

- enhanced HUD

I've never been a fan of "banning" users, make your server authoritative if you care about that kind of things, or better, listen to your players feedback

The process of modding a game and using cheats is the exact same: DLL injection, or MITM proxy for packets manipulation, so don't assume everyone has evil intentions only because of a open port ;)

Example of well intentioned modding community for Online games:

TrackMania: https://openplanet.dev/plugins

WoW: https://www.wowinterface.com/addons.php

WhereIsTheTruth··on TSMC cuts off client after discovering chips sent to Huawei
> You would have the US just.. give Taiwan over to China, against the will of Taiwan's own people

According to this article, Taiwanese still want to do business with China, so your suggestion is to prevent Taiwanese to do business with China, against their will? wait, something doesn't sound right, i can't pin point it just yet!

> Expand those security requirements to international technology partners. If it's a race, incentivize partners to support our interests.

Well, again, according to this article, Taiwanese wants China as partners, at a least as business partners

You keep contradicting yourself.. oh wait...

> incentivize partners to support our interests

oh right! your interests above theirs! now it all make sense! thanks

WhereIsTheTruth··on TSMC cuts off client after discovering chips sent to Huawei
> We can't even secure our key technologies. Security at TSMC being a consideration, but not just them.

TSMC is not yours, is Taiwan sovereign or not? According to you, it's not, but when China claims it, it suddenly becomes sovereign? very conveniant

> There are constant reports of industrial espionage, both within the US and all along our critical supply chain internationally. Admittedly, it's a lot easier to steal from an open society than a closed, homogeneous one. But where are the armies of advisors to assess critical infrastructure or even help assess threats on an ongoing basis. We should _almost_ be treating our and our allies high tech industrial infrastructure like they are weapon and munitions factories in a wartime environment.

You are being engineered to support the idea of a full scale war with China, it won't go well for americans if you decide to choose that path

WhereIsTheTruth··on Show HN: Rust Web Framework
And Go compiles very fast, very few understand how important this is

Not only it is important for fast iteration, but it also contributes to the fun, waiting for compiler to finish is not fun

To me there shouldn't be any new language made without hotreload and incremental compilation

It's 2024, with the HW we have, we shouldn't have to wait more than 1 second to compile code

Fun fact, my game written in D (30k LOC), fully recompiles in 0.4 seconds (Intel i3 10400f), if i can do it, you can too

WhereIsTheTruth··on Show HN: Pumpkin – A Modern Minecraft server written in Rust
Downvoter, go check this: https://wiki.vg/Protocol, let me know if that's a good way to sync a lot of fast moving entities across a TCP network

This is why people struggle with their servers, not because the game was written in java

WhereIsTheTruth··on Show HN: Pumpkin – A Modern Minecraft server written in Rust
i wish minecraft was open source, i'd be able to fix their inefficient protocol

WhereIsTheTruth··on Rust GPU: The future of GPU programming
A language that is slow to compile can't be the future of anything

Waiting for your code to compile in order to be able to see how this new color looks, or this new font or this new title or this new game player speed feels, just is BAD, very BAD

You don't have to trust what i say

You can however trust facts

Here a real world example to verify that fact everyone can test at home

Clone this popular open source game written in Rust:

https://github.com/veloren/veloren

Compile it, `cargo build` easy

Insert "... an hour later .." meme

Nice, you got it to compile

Now change any value, just like a gamedev would do when he iterates on its game

Here for example, the strength of the lighting effect:

https://github.com/veloren/veloren/blob/master/server/src/cm...

Again, `cargo build`

Let us know, how long it took to compile on your machine

It took 17 seconds for me, 17!!! seconds!!!, just because i wanted to change the look of the lighting effect

Is this how you view the future of GPU/gamedev programming?

GPU/gamedev programming deserve better

Even gamers are sick of slow compilers

WhereIsTheTruth··on HPy – A better C API for Python
it's not 'fractured', it's just fragmented, and it's not necessarily a bad thing, it gives plenty of room for R&D and experimentation

WhereIsTheTruth··on Visa Introduces the Visa Tokenized Asset Platform
I was right since the beginning, the cryptocurrency fad was a test, to both harden and crowdfund the development of a CBDC

WhereIsTheTruth··on Ask HN: Why is .NET never talked about as an option for solo/small team dev?
It's not about being "cool"

It's about the motives

"it's open source"

"it now works on linux"

it all doesn't matter if they'll go after your ass if you dare build tooling with their debugger (jetbrains)

or when they want to remove a feature overnight to make it exclusive to visual studio windows and behind a paywall

it's this kind of things that makes it hard to recommend it to people, and Microsoft can't be trusted

WhereIsTheTruth··on DirectX Adopting SPIR-V as the Interchange Format of the Future

WhereIsTheTruth··on Founder Mode, hackers, and being bored by tech

I have no desire to contribute to this whole circus full for fraudsters

WhereIsTheTruth··on The quest for a Wiki-less game

I'm surprised at the file size though, you'd think having a device with such a low res and without colors, you'd be able to shrink down assets more
