WaterSponge··on What The Chinese Tech Industry Is Like
With those huge user bases for these Chinese sites how come we don't get much feedback on the web about there scaling issues and challenges?

What platforms are these massive sites built on? as they seem to dwarf the US darlings we regularly discuss on HN.

Where can I find the Chinese dev and admin forums and read via google translate?

Thx

You are accounted for and not the off the grid.

You are influenced by your friends and culture. Brands try to penetrate both. You have just offloaded some of your choice/reference to friends and internet when your ready to look. They they get you.

WaterSponge··on In memory of Aaron, bulk XML of every federal and state law and court ruling
Thanks... I ask because I wonder if law firms do any data analysis for all court opinions(Sentiment Analysis), judges, attorneys and outcomes. Also if states have data warehouses to review the application of laws local and federal.

Is there a free or paid service that has this type of data and a api for accessing it?
WaterSponge··on Rap Genius Traffic Has Dropped By Over 80%
Does this not prove the incentive to win at SEO at all costs?

Has google disclosed other sites penalized for the same behavior?

WaterSponge··on CyanogenMod rolls out encrypted text messaging by default
This is iMessage style messaging for Android... if both users on secured network then use secure network else fallback to SMS/MMS..

Why Google hasn't be able to integrate hang outs in this fashion is still a mystery.

WaterSponge··on Why I am no longer submitting direct URLs to HN (and neither should you)
Allow for a small subtext under/side of the title submissions that allow some editorializing to spark discussion. So more is know about the link before having to click thru.
WaterSponge··on Jury: Samsung Owes Apple Another $290 Million
Serious question... Is it not a normal thing to hardcore analyze your offerings against your competitors?

And if so is it a bad faith to do these types of analysis inside your company on your products since it exposes you in court?

How has the auto industry get getting along so long without suing each other into the ground?

WaterSponge··on My really successful, unfundable, piece of shit startup I hate to love
You ever think to ask your users with a survey to see why they came there in the first place?

Do you have some analytics to see what they are doing on the site? I mean is 60% of it searching for popstar images and then browsing from then?

Once you know this you can start to steer this firehose into a funnel.

WaterSponge··on Patent war goes nuclear: Microsoft, Apple-owned “Rockstar” sues Google
Marketing is a natural occurrence. All companies/people/groups market themselves in one way or another. Your not exactly forced to buy into whats being sold. Why is everyone so stuck on google core being a marketing company?

I think its the least of evil profit motivations since hell I might actually be interested in what google has figured out I may want... Vs being locked out without any options and force into dealing with a certain player.

WaterSponge··on Patent war goes nuclear: Microsoft, Apple-owned “Rockstar” sues Google
We are all building software on the shoulders of giants but like to claim major pieces of glory once we grow into corporations. Remove a certain piece and like jenga it all falls down.

Some pieces protected by patents. Others patentable but never claimed.

WaterSponge··on Contrary to public claims, Apple can read your iMessages
Did anyone ever figure out how the iMessage for Android developer got his implementation to work?...
WaterSponge··on The new Galaxy Note 3 is region-locked
Haven't seen this mentioned. The phones are region locked only until activated with a SIM from that Region. This way phones have to be used in there home market. I suppose this is for controlling exports from UK or South America to US.

A side... Sprint Iphones SIM SLOT are technically unlockable by Sprint but only to regions/carriers not the US.
