i love challenging nerds with stupid opinions, that's kind of it! love ya'll and wish most of you weren't incredibly disassociated from actual life but regardless...there are some fun opinions here and smart people here worth talking to.
I don't remember how computers work if I'm being honest. (I'm okay with that unless it would help me pay my mortgage or somethin')
I've worked at call centers and contact centers whatever the hell you wanna call them places for 15+ years. have you legit never heard the term phone tree before? I'm on the east coast in case its a regional thing, that's like literally what my dad who wasn't an uneducated person called them. totally just curious here!
As someone who almost never plays video games but owns several CRTS for the sake of media I can attest to the fact that at least some of us purely own CRT's for their picture quality, or in my case the fact that I think pre 2000's 4:3 media was also kind of intended to be watched on screens like that (much in the same way I see video gamers arguing)
I'll take a wild guess though that my group (crt media watchers) is slightly less easy to take advantage of with actual hardware than video gamers which I'd guess to be the reason why there are few articles or HOLY GRAIL crt's like this fw900 widescreen in the media watching community. Not that we aren't often suckers for things like ORIGINAL VINTAGE POSTERS and SEALED MEDIA lol.
More so I just don't get why people need to please you or this guy with our interests? All sorts of peoples lives seem maybe not FUN to me because they don't have the same risk tolerance as me as an example but I don't think their lives are "boring". I think maybe they didn't spend as much time as me smoking PCP on traincars as a teenager!
People might have other experiences than you lol! Maybe someone finds watching sitcoms stoned while knitting to be the most rewarding thing in the world? Maybe they think the things you're doing are boring? It's odd to judge what people find exciting in life.
I think we overstate how interesting people are in general. Maybe those people would've just been boring and consumed media in ways you don't seem to approve of sober otherwise?
Sure, but I've definitely never met one who was angry about their government pay, paid college, or allmost fully government sponosered healthcare, they're angry about HOW these things are enacted more than anything else for the most part not that they're being offered to them in general like the majority of the public would benefit from as well.
I can't imagine arguing or thinking seriously that the majority of computers exist even "effectively" to only hurt us in some way. By computer did you actually mean some sort of antique ball torture device? I won't argue that the companies that control and make these devices aren't evil and responsible for some pretty awful things but it's really odd to argue that most users are "hurting" themselves by using the devices they use.
I promise they would consider having the type of full control and responsibility you're describing as far more harmful and annoying than anything those big 4 could accomplish to them individually.
depends on the transience I guess of the people that goto them, when I was homeless at least and went to places like this in a large city many of the people were drug addicts from smaller towns or literal hobos who were there for the sake of I assume cheap drugs and social services likes food banks.
so straightforward that it makes you realize how comically bad some people here in the comment section are at understanding even broad strokes kinda implications about their and others actions.
at the same time many here seem to think "not understanding a system" can involve totally good faith arguments like "sticking your head in the sand" and "putting a blindfold and earplugs in and saying LALALALALALALA!"
you really nailed it on the head, In way less of a way I made somewhat of a similar switch (not at all similar in the level of helping the world) from working at a huge national health/property insurance company (the literal devil) and now work for a welfare related government agency and I think not working for the devil REALLY helps as you say with sleeping at night, hopefully I can somehow make up karmically lol.
just curious, how old are you that you think current youth have no memories of playing outside? what an amusing and out of touch statement, have you been outside in the past decade? Maybe not in a populated area because I see kids playing outside basically everyday. I also don't believe that you've never watched someone play a game, you didn't have siblings or friends growing up?
if only they weren't right 95% of the time. Anyone they know that uses alternative web platforms uses them for those exact reasons, and they're generally pretty correct in that assumption, who else would be motivated to use them to any discernible degree?
lol yeah the guy up there who uses the example of a worker now needing to make "two cars" is very short-sighted and kinda misses the point overall, I can't think of an industry that is a better example of human beings regularly being replaced by machines than manufacturing.
This is the one of the oddest things I've read all day. you should feel a certain disconnect during these conversations, and it's odd to think of media as something that people don't relate over and use to bond. People will obviously accommodate people who aren't in the in group (and know about insert thing) to not be complete assholes, but you will absolutely be treated differently in life for not being into insert thing for better or worse.
climbing a mountain might be completely unmemorable for one person and going to a party could be that thing to others. I do not know anyone who ever brings up their friend who climbed a mountain (and I know a handful of people who do) but I can recall many stories of people at parties doing insert wacky memorable activity.
Have you guys ever thought that maybe you just aren't able to perceive the differences in modern speech and vocab because you choose not to? Maybe viewing the past the way you are kinda leads itself to not enjoying the modern world to the extent that you possibly could. Speech evolves in ways that are often very challenging to perceive, particularly if you think of modern society as somehow dumber and less apt to convey emotions through language which mostly comes off as the opinions of someone who somehow thinks that language only works "one way" aka the way they were taught it works, and the way that they personally speak in. In the example you're using here with the rap critic, words do have meaning, and playing with that meaning or lack of meaning is just as interesting and intelligent as some rural turn of phrase, and also isn't a very new concept if you're younger than say 150.
in what respect is Instagram a dating app for women or anyone? Because it's a social media site primarily used by younger-ish people? by that metric any site that features young people is just an over-glorified dating platform. (not to say that this is a negative implication, dating websites are great to some extent)
Do you believe that young people are capable of using social media platforms for things other than base urges or is that something only middle aged people are able to accomplish?
