Volt··on Show HN: Darklang
Is your point that they'll fall for it again?
Volt··on Windows X86-64 System Call Table
> MacOS X is so unstable that even go developers had to go through libSystem

Just to be clear to anyone else, the Mac OS X syscall interface is guaranteed to be unstable by Apple. Going through libSystem is the only way.

Volt··on Banned C standard library functions in Git source code
That's the point
Volt··on Banned C standard library functions in Git source code
It still sucks. I have a few Haskell projects from a few years ago that I wanted to compile on another system. So I froze the dependencies, moved the project, and tried to build. Solver failed. I gave up.
Volt··on J can look like APL or English
Two things:

1. Why does the article in particular upset you? You talk about how J looks like ASCII vomit, and the article is trying to mitigate that. Perhaps it doesn't go far enough, which I would agree with.

2. What does an APL successor look like? Beyond object-orientation (which I don't see as contributing much).

Volt··on Google Plans to Deprecate FTP URL Support in Chrome
>The same could have been said of Gopher.

I don't think Chrome ever supported Gopher, but if some other browser removed something that worked fine before I wouldn't like it either.

Volt··on Cool but obscure X11 tools
Code is code and code is good.
Volt··on We Made Amiga, They Fucked It Up (2015)
Does it have a garbage collector yet?
Volt··on The Linux kernel's inability to gracefully handle low memory pressure
Like which ones?
Volt··on What's Coming in Python 3.8
The implementation needs to be maintained.
Volt··on 1Password: Standalone / Local Vault Option Gone?
To be honest, if they're going to do stuff like that they shouldn't be offering those features at all.

Developers should stick to implementing features they're likely to maintain.

Volt··on Programming Patterns I Like
Should have applied item 4 to item 3. I don't really know what's going on there.
Volt··on Impending kOS (2014)
It's a comparison to Lisp.
Volt··on GNU APL 1.8
There's no open source version of kdb+.
Volt··on V Is for Vaporware
They were only marked as WIP when people noticed they were missing.
Volt··on The C standard library function atexit is broken
Not the parent, but I think dynamic linking with system libraries is the only time it makes good sense. Otherwise you're just asking for trouble.
Volt··on OpenMandriva, the first Clang-built Linux distribution
But this is about Linux.
Volt··on Differences between the word2vec paper and its implementation
I hope you're a scientist.
Volt··on Free Wolfram Engine for Developers
What are they moving to?
Volt··on FatELF: Universal Binaries for Linux (2015)
What makes it obvious?
Volt··on J Language – New Website
I'm trying this with Dyalog 16 (Mac OS X) and I'm getting WS FULL. Do you know why that might be?

BTW, what kind of machine are you testing on?

Volt··on ‘A toxic culture of overwork’: The graduate student mental health crisis
That China needs to put in that much effort to be competitive with the US isn't a particularly good sign.

Work smarter, not harder.

Volt··on Ask HN: Successful projects that weren't received well on HN?
Precisely what are you looking for? Projects that were negatively received, or projects that nobody cared about?
Volt··on Universal Binaries Using WASM
>and if it’s a toss up between the JS powered 3MB+ websites and endless shitty electron apps or WASM, I’m going to elect for WASM.

I don't know why you think the situation would improve with WASM.

Volt··on Universal Binaries Using WASM
Taking this further, wouldn't this imply that WebAssembly is only for the Web?
Volt··on Universal Binaries Using WASM
Really? He single-handedly killed Flash? What a powerful man.
Volt··on Revery – Native, high-performance, cross-platform desktop apps
Same thing could have been said for Java apps 15 years ago.
Volt··on Ditching Medium
Medium does have RSS feeds: https://medium.com/feed/<username>
Volt··on Response to 'Reasons why Lisp games suffer'
Yes, there are degrees. But everybody wants their language to be a winner, I guess.
Volt··on Fortran is still a thing
If by Python you mean numpy, then yes.
