Vik1ng··on All Tesla Cars Being Produced Now Have Full Self-Driving Hardware
How often does another plane pass you by a few feet and you have a split second to react?
Vik1ng··on Upgrading Autopilot: Seeing the World in Radar
> "The update will also penalize inattentive drivers. If the car determines that the driver doesn't have their hands on the wheel and throws its audible warning three times in an hour, it will lock the driver out of the feature. In order to re-enable Autopilot, the car will have to be pulled over and put in park."

If Engadget got that right I think we will see a lot of upset Tesla owners in a few weeks.

Vik1ng··on Tesla envy grips Germany’s giants
> they have been incapable of streamlining this

Because it's not the goal. The goal is to offer many variations to have the perfect fit for every customer. Why do you think all German manufacturers have been building more and more SUVs in the last decade. Because that's exactly what American customers want.

Vik1ng··on Tesla envy grips Germany’s giants
Because the typical 3-Series buyer is unlikely to buy a i3, but the get new customer segments with the i3. So overall more sales without cannibalizing existing ones.

> Oh yes you can, because it's a price bracket.

Did you actually check where a Model S starts after tax credits vs. the base price of a S-Class?

Vik1ng··on Master Plan, Part Deux
A semi travelling a very slow speeds would need his own lane or it would significantly increase the risk of accidents (unless every car on the road is autonomous).

Solar on the roof is most likely rather insignificant and will also just add weight.

Vik1ng··on Master Plan, Part Deux
Also sounds like it's written by someone who has never used public transport his entire life. In my bus in the morning 70% of the passengers are standing not sitting.
Vik1ng··on A Tragic Loss
> but they can't include sensors to ensure customers have hands on the wheel?

They can and the car already does that. It just do not check very frequently compared to some of the competitors.

Vik1ng··on A Tragic Loss
The Mercedes E-Class Drive Pilot seems to do this to some extent. For example even going from demanding the driver to place one hand on the steering wheel to requiring both hands.

Vik1ng··on A Tragic Loss
Reminds me of their complaint blog post why the German government initiative is capped at 60k where it seems like half the point was to advertise a new lease deal.

Vik1ng··on Tesla Makes Offer to Acquire SolarCity
Just because you see Teslas and recognize them doesn't mean others do.

Also California is Tesla's home turf, not really a good example for the country or the whole addressable market.

Vik1ng··on A Grain of Salt
You are making it sound like that's just fine.

Most people would sign something like that over spending thousands of dollars for a repair. Just imagine it is the battery and they choice is like "well, you can pay $20000 yourself or sing this paper and we take care of it".

Vik1ng··on A Grain of Salt
The whole question here is IF Tesla maybe did the same. That's why the NHTSA is looking at it.

I wouldn't be surprised if the author confused gas tank and tank.

Vik1ng··on Why I think Tesla is building throwaway cars
Certainly better that a $1200 Tesla Model S door handle that has to be activated ;D
Vik1ng··on Why I think Tesla is building throwaway cars
Not every Tesla is 100k. Some start out below 70k when you consider tax initiatives. With gas savings etc. those are things people will consider who might have gotten a 5-Series otherwise.

Also used car market. people who pay 100k often don't drive it 8, 10 or more years - they get something new before that. Person who buys a $50k CPO car and maybe soon even lower will care.

Then there is the 35k Model 3 whee it will matter a lot more

Vik1ng··on How Elon Musk Stole My Car
Tesla reminds me of Formula Student where teams also would do hilarious stuff like put a phone in the steering wheel (actually was not that bad) or program their car to make donuts on the spot with 4 electric motors and pushing a button. But fun is simply part of the competition and it's not the end of the world if something goes wrong or isn't perfect.
Vik1ng··on How Elon Musk Stole My Car

Has anyone else who has purchased a Tesla had even half as many issues?
Well, I would hope Elon doesn't use already sold cars as prototype test vehicles on a weekly basis.
Vik1ng··on How Elon Musk Stole My Car
And if Elon had actually acknowledged this it would have been much easier for the Owner Advisor to find an alternative and Elon could easily have made the company pay a $20k difference.
Vik1ng··on Tesla recalling 90,000 Model S sedans to check seat belts

I try to handle my responsibilities so maybe I don't have to rely on a corporation or the government to hold my hand.
It's all about liability. Let's say another car has the issue and actually has an accident. Now who is at fault? Should Tesla have required a recall? Should they have had a different language? Is it your fault? Are you going to admit that when the insurance company doesn't want to pay?

Vik1ng··on Tesla's $35k Model 3 Sedan to Start Production in 2 Years
400 miles? Even Tesla's Model S doesn't go anyway close to that under normal driving conditions. Model 3 will get 200+ miles, at best maybe around 250 for the top model.

Edit: Yeah missed the k. Never heard that one brought up. Also doubt Tesla's will last much longer.

Vik1ng··on Tesla's $35k Model 3 Sedan to Start Production in 2 Years
The reality is that public transport will always be the superior solution. No matter how big you make the highway some trains are always going to beat traffic. Combine that with some Park&Ride places on the outskirts and bus/subway/tram in the city.
