VeejayRampay··on Meta takes down a critical video about meta AI Glasses after filming at Meta
meta's pervert glasses
VeejayRampay··on ZuckOff Is a Free App That Sees Meta Glasses Before They See You
we really need to regulate fast on those pervert glasses
VeejayRampay··on Rockstar had a mole in the union worker discord server
it's always terrible companies fighting tooth and nail against unions
VeejayRampay··on Quasar 438B: Europe's Leading AI Model
you should care

not being technically independent means you'll end up being a serf when American or Chinese companies decide that you don't have access anymore for geopolitical reasons

VeejayRampay··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
since you work at Anthropic, know that there was (warranted) love for your models from the community as a whole, they performed well and added value

but the verbiage in recent iterations is absolutely insufferable, I will stop using them because of that as soon as I can, I simply cannot stand another round of the model "finding the smoking gun", saying "that's the actual gap, not a fluke" or some idiotic phrasing like this

VeejayRampay··on uv: Deduplicate all files in the wheel cache
it's very bizarre for a python developer like me to read comments like this

uv has been absolutely black magic for everyone in the way it just works and works much faster, but here you are telling us that actually no it's somehow not that good

VeejayRampay··on Overcooked? Why robotic pizza makers are failing
I don't think the robots are really at fault, but it's just that the kind of businesses that would use the robots in the first place would also not spend the time making good fermented dough, not use the best ovens or the best quality ingredients because they want to make a quick buck in shopping malls or train stations

with the good stuff, a good robot would make brilliant pizza

VeejayRampay··on Anthropic appears to be A/B testing reduced effort levels in Claude Code
the way it talks is insufferable

it really angers me every day

VeejayRampay··on Why does Opus 5 feel worse to work with?
the phraseology is unbearable, it speaks like some kind of pretentious dude from a software engineering discord or something, littered with lingo and catch phrases

I try to push through but it's insufferable

VeejayRampay··on Gemini 3.7 Flash
not what the first chart shows
VeejayRampay··on Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report
but have they integrated homebrew, have they made it a first class citizen, have they provided money or something?

the answer is "maybe to some small extent, but not really"

VeejayRampay··on Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
the older talented people are there because of money

there's nothing special about the US, it's money

VeejayRampay··on Android Developer Verification: Threat masquerading as protection
you think it's shitty, but it's a personal opinion that you're phrasing as some kind of widely accepted view

be sure that it's not, lots of people actually PREFER Android

VeejayRampay··on Asahi Linux 7.1 Progress Report
see homebrew, they could have made this an official thing but no, they prefer to let people work do their work for them and sleep on their mattress of cash

despicable business practices really

VeejayRampay··on Department of Commerce has lifted export controls on Claude Fable 5 and Mythos 5
capital and talent is the same in this context

there's no shortage of talent in Europe or France, it's just an issue of available capital

VeejayRampay··on Why narcissistic leaders resist remote work
incredibly cliché and essentialist view of the world, reads like a bad pseudoscientific self help book from the 90's
VeejayRampay··on The CEO of Mullvad is the main financer of the Swedish Örebro party
he's obviously a xenophobe, that's the opposite of being empathetic

he supports a party that flat out talks about immigrants as parasites, let's not try to paint him and a good guy, it's infuriating

VeejayRampay··on Apple to skip high-end M6 Mac chips in favor of AI-focused M7 line
I really wish people stopped saying things "I've been saying that"

why not just say "I think that"

do you see yourself as some kind of visionary about this particular topic? literally EVERYONE is saying that, it's the most obvious fact about AI

VeejayRampay··on Zed Editor Theme-Builder
tried using zed, didn't understand how to set up claude code integration, went back to vscode where setting up claude code is trivial
VeejayRampay··on Kimi K2.6 just beat Claude, GPT-5.5, and Gemini in a coding challenge
crazy how people on hacker news, who just gobble up anything if it's from openai or anthropic suddenly become monocled sceptics when chinese open models are "winning"
VeejayRampay··on How uv got so fast
it is absolutely a huge deal, I suspect you work daily in python but with a small number of repositories that dont change too often
VeejayRampay··on Mistral 3 family of models released
no, I find Gemini to be the best
VeejayRampay··on OpenAI declares 'code red' as Google catches up in AI race
what do you mean "catches up"

Gemini has been as good as GPT for more than a year

OpenAI still somehow gets the edge on the initial veneer of hype, and that's running thin

VeejayRampay··on Xkcd: Python Environment (2018)
ruff is a blessing as well and soon ty will make type checking so much better (or pyrefly which also seems great)
VeejayRampay··on French ex-president Sarkozy begins jail sentence
thanks for this post

it should be repeated ad-nauseam that he is a crook, a shame for the country and its values and that the whole discourse about the injustice of the sentencing has heavy anti-liberal vibes

VeejayRampay··on Gemini 3.0 spotted in the wild through A/B testing
you're not in the minority, there's just intense fanboyism on Hacker News to promote OpenAI, because it serves the whole "LLM revolution" schtick better

Gemini has been dominating the field for about a year now, but I suppose Google is bit boring cause they just do things well

VeejayRampay··on Spotlight on pdfly, the Swiss Army knife for PDF files
due to the nature of PDF, none of the tools mentioned here can do things as simple as detecting tables on pages with high accuracy

PDF is absolutely mint for display but it really suffers when parsing is involved

VeejayRampay··on Type Theory and Functional Programming (1999) [pdf]
python will be the last man standing with basically no functional goodies

people will keep on trucking with their "pythonic" for loops containg appends to a list that was initialized right before, their disgust for recursion, their absence of lambdas, the lack of monadic return types or containers

VeejayRampay··on Unified Line and Paragraph Detection by Graph Convolutional Networks (2022)
remotely related, but I have yet to find a solution for page classification in a document for tables, i.e. a classifier that returns the index of pages containing tables in a document that is reliable

solutions using things like img2table or pymupdf are really bad (pymupdf is not even reliable for text pdfs)

VeejayRampay··on Apple Photos app corrupts images
for context, the author is Aaron Patterson of Ruby and Ruby and Rails fame, a proficient C programmer and overall hacker, he knows his stuff
