VCFundedGenYer··on A warning about 'model welfare'
I am so tired of this. Especially when MS, who has the worst LLMs of them all, is throwing the stones.

All of these companies need to be shut down.

VCFundedGenYer··on PS5 Linux lead quits: "a bunch of noobs using LLMs" that "they don't understand"
> Vibecoding has been the norm for months

That's your editorialization.

VCFundedGenYer··on PS5 Linux lead quits: "a bunch of noobs using LLMs" that "they don't understand"
Did you even click the link? That's not true at all. The title matches the tin.
VCFundedGenYer··on Small programming tricks
I would probably retitle this less as "programming tricks" rather instead make it "bash/zsh CLI tricks" as this only really tangentially refers to programming.
VCFundedGenYer··on Show HN: How Stale Is Your AI? Release age and training cutoff for 20 models
I remember running the docker container for ollama and its knowledge cutoff is somewhere in 2023 still. That's unacceptable.
VCFundedGenYer··on Why Personal Websites Are Coming Back
This is an AI-generated slop article. Pay it no mind.
VCFundedGenYer··on Leaving Linux
The author is going to have massive remorse if they think moving to macOS will let them customize things.

Using macOS (especially Apple Silicon era macOS) feels like being in maximum security prison. If you thought Windows Vista UAC was bad, macOS is doing it worse right now.

The reasoning is all wrong.

> I'm 30 this year, and computers don't have the same level of whimsy and excitement as they once had.

Also wtf. I'm far older than this author, and this statement they made is just complete and total schlock. They don't have enough experience to say what they're saying.

VCFundedGenYer··on Firefox 156 shows ads in the address bar (dubbed "Firefox Suggest")
Reminder that Waterfox removes all of this nonsense.

And if you want an even more security hardened fork, LibreWolf.

Vanilla Firefox lost the plot a long time ago.

VCFundedGenYer··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
That’s not correct. It reaches back to the 12.

They might be referring to the Apple Intelligence features in particular.

VCFundedGenYer··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
There have been far more buggy iOS releases than stable ones. A few years in particular were absolute disasters until December or January. It is very sound graybeard advice to wait until the .1 release. Apple has not earned the trust to upgrade on day 1.
VCFundedGenYer··on Ex-FTC boss Khan: break out the handcuffs for AI CEOs, citing 1934 precedent
It’s definitely happening in 2029 if the election goes a certain way. They all know that too.

There WILL be an end to this.

VCFundedGenYer··on Microsoft patches Windows and Excel – breaks audio, remote access, and paste
> It is very hard to debug and fix stuff on Linux if something goes wrong.

No it isn't. That was true maybe 20 years ago. Most distros now just work. If something isn't working, the internet solves most of the problems.

VCFundedGenYer··on Blizzard Revives 'StarCraft' Franchise with Open-World Sci-Fi Shooter
SC64 has an 80 on Metacritic. Re-evaluate your statement with evidence.
VCFundedGenYer··on Blizzard Revives 'StarCraft' Franchise with Open-World Sci-Fi Shooter
Nobody wanted this. This is so off base. This is Microsoft operating at an insanely incompetence.
VCFundedGenYer··on Claude is a Contrarian
In my experience I had more issues with ChatGPT being terse, rude, and contrarian rather than Claude.

ChatGPT also does this thing where it suggests a WRONG answer first, then later goes "wellllll, you could actually do it THIS way instead" which is infuriating.

Do this instead:

-Craft a prompt in a text editor

-Open duck.ai, chatgpt, claude, and gemini

-Ask all 4 the same prompt

-Compare all the results and make a decision

VCFundedGenYer··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
I normally suggest the same, but 26 has been universally bad. This is the "point release" or "Snow Leopard" edition of 26.
VCFundedGenYer··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
I'd normally suggest waiting till a .1 release, but 26 was such a disaster that I might forego this advice.
VCFundedGenYer··on AI Robots – When will they be in our homes
This might be the most inaccessible and unreadable article I've ever seen. From IEEE no less. Zero stars on both the presentation and the content.
VCFundedGenYer··on Why the software industry needs a lot of regulation
Code does not operate under the rights of a country, and your definition of "speech" and "Free speech" is misguided and wrong.
VCFundedGenYer··on Big AI sets out its terms for regulatory capture
All these companies are suddenly crying about "slowing down" after insisting on having no guardrails nor restrictions?

All at once in lockstep?

Who paid them to say this? These are all lies.

VCFundedGenYer··on Rockstar had a mole in the union worker discord server
This fall, buy Ocarina of Time and not GTA 6.

Rockstar deserves no sales.

VCFundedGenYer··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
As a reminder - get off Twitter and get onto Mastodon (Bluesky is dead to rights). Those of you addicted to what was formerly Twitter need to move on.
VCFundedGenYer··on Key symbols we lost to time, pt. 1: The PC side
Insert and Print Screen are not gone. Every one of my keyboards (with the exception of Macbooks) has Insert.

Meanwhile, Print Screen is very much a staple of Windows and Linux screenshotting.

Reverse Tab is kind of still around, just as Shift Tab and Ctrl Tab.

I don't know what the author was thinking when they wrote that.

VCFundedGenYer··on When anyone can build software, who decides what not to build?
Vibe coding is expensive. It eats tokens, which costs your org dearly.

You can't just do what you want - you have to choose and use your brain to decide, with metrics, what's worth doing.

Also, code things yourself. It's free, uses your brain, exercises your skills, and makes you look 10 steps ahead of your AI slopping coworkers.

VCFundedGenYer··on Ask HN: How can I browse HN in dark mode?
Use the firefox extension "Dark Background and Light Text".
VCFundedGenYer··on Ask HN: Are we losing our engineering literacy?
Absolutely. There is no question.

At my place of work we've recently hired several 'engineers' who have been exposed as frauds who know nothing but how to beg the chatbot to do things. When you bring actual issues that require critical thinking or technical knowledge, they fold like a stack of cards and meat-proxy a Teams reply to you.

VCFundedGenYer··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
1. Android Automotive is run by Google, so that entire argument goes out the window immediately, because Google

2. Car companies bypass CarPlay/Android Auto with their own head units with software that executes before the projection software does.

VCFundedGenYer··on Don't call yourself an artisanal programmer
It may not be 100%, but human code is objectively more reliable and higher quality than any LLM generated slop code.
VCFundedGenYer··on LG says we're fake news [video]
You can't change the laws of physics.

If it isn't connected to the network, it can't communicate.

VCFundedGenYer··on LG says we're fake news [video]
I have a TCL TV where a recent firmware update actually fixed up some Arc power settings and a few other things. I only connect the TV to update it once every 6 months, and as soon as the update is done, it gets unplugged from the network again.
