Upvoter33··on Kona EV Hacking
me too. It's like it was written in 1980.
Upvoter33··on I'm glad the Anthropic fight is happening now
“The presence of greatness” - ugh.
Upvoter33··on Some Words on WigglyPaint
Yes I’ve had to do this but it does work. Unfortunately it’s a constant cost to have to look for stuff like this and then do the work.
Upvoter33··on OpenClaw surpasses React to become the most-starred software project on GitHub
Honestly this thread was been one of the funniest HN threads I've seen. So much gold in here - for which I thank you all.

"My React website can't star React"

"in what sense is this software not a virus?"

"GitHub stars are great for measuring the number of GitHub stars a project has"

etc.

All gold.

Upvoter33··on Over 80% of 16 to 24-year-olds would vote to rejoin the EU
Pretty dismissive ("when they grow up") of the group of people in the 16-24 year old range. These are not children; most of that group is 18 and over. You imply noise but there is clearly some signal in this result.
Upvoter33··on Assigning Open Problems in Class
I mean, why not?

Haven't people seen the documentary, "Good Will Hunting"?

Upvoter33··on Google Fulfilled ICE Subpoena Demanding Student Journalist Credit Card Number
I don't think it's as simple as "corps. = bad". It's more that naive slogans like "don't be evil" used to be taken seriously. Companies exist to make money. This is ok! It generally works well in a capitalistic system. But to expect more than that people are realizing is a pipe dream... which is why you need good rules in place (i.e., regulations, laws) to direct companies and their behaviors.
Upvoter33··on Jury told that Meta, Google 'engineered addiction' at landmark US trial
We're going to see the same kind of thing we saw with the tobacco industry - CEOs claiming they had no idea the product was engineering to be addictive. I have even less faith that this anyone will hold anybody accountable though.
Upvoter33··on Why I Joined OpenAI
This part of the article was cringe for me. Like he wanted to impress Mia and once she didn’t react he realized he needed to change jobs.

BG and eBPF are awesome but this article read like a midlife crisis to me.

Upvoter33··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
as usual with Trump supporters: trying to make both sides seem "equal" on election rigging, when one side (in 2020) caused Jan 6 to happen and still won't accept the election results from 2020, whereas a few fringe people (I guess) had some problems with 2024.
Upvoter33··on Stewart Cheifet, creator of The Computer Chronicles, has died
Loved that show. RIP.
Upvoter33··on Honda: 2 years of ml vs 1 month of prompting - heres what we learned
Did the author exactly define "Nova Lite" somewhere in there?
Upvoter33··on Carice TC2 – A non-digital electric car
I guess that makes it a luxury EV ...
Upvoter33··on Carice TC2 – A non-digital electric car
Don’t know the cost here but I would fathom it’s not “cloud connected”
Upvoter33··on Mr TIFF
Beautiful and moving. Thank you author of the article and thank you Mr TIFF
Upvoter33··on Typst 0.14
Typst is fantastic, I like it a lot (and have used LaTeX for over 30 years). I hope they keep up the great work!
Upvoter33··on Getting DeepSeek-OCR working on an Nvidia Spark via brute force with Claude Code
No offense, but I hate all the comparisons to a "junior dev" that I see out there. This process is just like any dev! I mean, who wouldn't have to tinker around a bit to get some piece of software to work? Is there a human out there who would just magically type all the right things - no errors - first try?
Upvoter33··on Scientist exposes anti-wind groups as oil-funded, now they want to silence him
> A lot of people who voted right wing are looking for reasons to re-evaluate their decisions

If only

Upvoter33··on The End of Handwriting
I like printing (it's clear and easy to read and write) and don't like cursive (it's less so imho) - so may cursive rest in peace
Upvoter33··on GPT-5
Tufte used to call this creating a "visual lie" - you just don't start the y-axis at 0, you start it wherever, in order to maximize the difference. it's dishonest.
Upvoter33··on Jeff Bezos doesn't believe in PowerPoint, and his employees agree
There will be many negative comments here so let me add a positive: writing helps you think. More so than making ppt. My guess that it is helpful in some cases to force this level of detailed thought.
Upvoter33··on Show HN: The Magic of Code – book about the wonders and weirdness of computation
rather, why not also post one "content" chapter? I think it will help sell the book better, fwiw
Upvoter33··on What the Fuck Python
chained comparisons are weird and counter-intuitive, sometimes
Upvoter33··on CP/M creator Gary Kildall's memoirs released as free download
I'm curious about the part they omitted. I wonder why? But of course, it's their business and I'm happy they shared this.
Upvoter33··on CP/M creator Gary Kildall's memoirs released as free download
This is mostly true. Gates was a tech wizard - a great programmer before there were even books about programming. But to make it sound like Gates wasn't a business-first guy is wrong - he wanted to sell software from day 1. Read any early bio about him and his speech about selling software to the homebrew club (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/An_Open_Letter_to_Hobbyists).
Upvoter33··on Show HN: OffChess – Offline chess puzzles app
That’s more of a feature request not a bug report
Upvoter33··on Chemical knowledge and reasoning of large language models vs. chemist expertise
sounds snarky and defensive, tbh
Upvoter33··on Why agents are bad pair programmers
I liked your post, a bit of a “how to enjoy pair programming with an AI”. Useful, so thank you!
Upvoter33··on AI Saved My Company from a 2-Year Litigation Nightmare
Good points. But the main point of the article was not about replacing lawyers with AI - rather it was about using AI to be an informed client and thus work more in partnership with lawyers.
Upvoter33··on Square Theory
That is funny. We finally figured out this double meaning a few years ago and I have been on the same quest since.
