Uchikoma··on Etsy accused me of not assembling my synths by hand and shut down my shop
So you also need to create your wool and are not allowed to source ready-made wool? Or leather? There is a very thin arbitrary line in there somewhere.
Uchikoma··on Why I abandoned my startup
Yes, this is used here too, looks like a truck with a vacuum cleaner for offroad, forrest or side of the road. Don't know about cleaning bushed though :-)
Uchikoma··on What to expect in SEO in the coming months [video]
I always have this in my head:

Exhibit A: How fast Digg came back into the index, a smaller site would never have come back as fast.
Uchikoma··on Why I abandoned my startup
I might totally misunderstand you as English is not my native tongue, but in Germany - and I assume in many other parts of Europe - there are large trucks that go around streets and smaller ones in parks that have vacuums and suck up the trash.

Not sure if your idea was the invention or starting a service business to offer street cleaning services.

Amen.

What is abusive? With 1 keyword on the page you will not rank. You at least need it in the body, text, url and h1. Is this abusive?

Google tells you to design for the user. This assumes that Google is just as clever as people - what they love to tell you - but which it isn't. That's the main reason people put text blurbs everywhere, create landing pages, put synonyms and different keywords on their pages, because Google is not clever enough.

And your competition just ranks. If you design your pages for users you don't rank from my experience - e.g. people do not care about URLs, do not care about H1 tags on ecommerce pages, don't care about bold, don't care about explanations on ecommerce sites what a t-shirt is or what trousers are . But Google does.

Most of the current high ranking pages, SCREAM "I've been designed for Google!" right into your face.

see exhibit A: http://www.zalando.de/damenschuhe-pumps/

The text on the page to the bottom and to the left clearly isn't for users.

If you have examples of your SEO work where you rank for keywords and have designed your pages for users and not designed the pages for Google I'd be very interested to learn from you - as would /r/seo.

Uchikoma··on What to expect in SEO in the coming months [video]
Right? Not enough keywords and you just don't rank, too many bold keywords and you're hit. Nowadays you get a penalty far before you do anything black hat (Though Penguin should not be about onpage).
Uchikoma··on [dead]
Or as one might also misunderstand: Mercedes, BMW and Audi combined.
Uchikoma··on American Airlines: one day of lounge access to anyone with Klout score over 55
Klout tells me I'm inside the top 1% and I have a score of 52 - so not a lot of people get this.
Uchikoma··on Pinterest hacked?
Didn't think about that, you're right.
Uchikoma··on Pinterest hacked?
What about "My friend tells me that I should also mention that I was able to log in with the emails/passwords leaked."?
Uchikoma··on Amazon was down
Who changed this to "was down"? (After 23 minutes) it still is 90% down on reload (for me).
Uchikoma··on Flat UI was Released - Framework for Designers and Developers, based on Bootstrap
"That, paired with them ripping off other people's designs for this theme, makes me recommend people to stay away from anything associated with this site."

For such accusations it would be good to provide links and sources.

Uchikoma··on "Hackathon" Has Been Trademarked in Germany
"Germans apparently allow all sorts of English words to be trademarked [...] because the word "immersion" is trademarked in Germany.

Immersion is a German word.

Uchikoma··on Building Stuff To Help You Sell The Stuff You Build
OT: Attended patio11 and Colins email bootcamp, was excellent. Had to share this.
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
It is. Removing natives, stealing their land, then declaring there is no population so you also get their TLD is chauvinist.
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
"On 11 May 2006, the High Court ruled that a 2004 Order in Council preventing the Chagossians' resettlement of the islands was unlawful, and consequently that the Chagossians were entitled to return to the outer islands of the Chagos Archipelago. [...] According to a WikiLeaks disclosure document, in a calculated move in 2009 to prevent re-settlement of the BIOT by native Chagossians, the UK proposed that the BIOT become a "marine reserve" with the aim of preventing the former inhabitants from returning to their lands. " http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/British_Indian_Ocean_Territory
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
So when I remove you forcibly from your land (which the inhabitants were by the British government), then I steal your land and later I declare there is "no general population" so you have no right to a TLD either, it is not chauvinist when I declare you non existent? Because you were native and could not defend yourself against a modern army?
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
How chauvinist is this reply. I would not have thought to see such a thing on HN.
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
So? Someone chose clay.io instead of claycorp.com or somethingelse.com, doesn't get found by Google and now wants Google to change the TLD to a gccTLD disregarding the locals.
Uchikoma··on An Appeal to Google: Make ".io" a gccTLD
Flame me down, but this is what you get when you "misuse" .io.
Uchikoma··on Show HN: My one month project, Statsgram.com: Website Optimization Tool
"Die" is not a bad keyword in German ;-)
Uchikoma··on Show HN: My one month project, Statsgram.com: Website Optimization Tool
For SERP tracking I like http://norrth.com/app/serptracker/ which is 100 keywords for $19/month.
Uchikoma··on How to get a job after your startup fails
In Berlin we have two open ops positions ;-)

" but it took companies a long time to make a decision"

Yes, a lot of companies get that wrong, sometimes we do too. But we strive to have interviews as fast as possible and make decisions within a week, most often the same day as we do not consider it fair letting people wait on a decision (and it rarely gets better with time).

Uchikoma··on How to get a job after your startup fails
It heavily depends on the market. When my startup failed in 200x after popping of the dotcom bubble, the market for programmers was terrible and I was lucky to get a job at a state funded research institute.

Comparing this to today, where I get at least one offer a week, this was completely different.

Uchikoma··on Edis: a Redis for larger-than-RAM datasets
From this thread, sounds like the second point: "It's currently a research project for us and we have an intern from Uppsala University working on the HA features including paxos leader election and multi-master conflict resolution."
Uchikoma··on A history of the Amiga, part 8: The demo scene
I remember those too :-) Great!

Zooming I mostly did with applying Bresenham to drawing bitmaps instead of lines (And then obviously repeating lines with BLPxMOD).

That site would be awesome.

Uchikoma··on A history of the Amiga, part 8: The demo scene
I still remember my first sin scroller, copper bars and the easy water mirror effects with a negative bitplane offset.

I wonder if there is a site that explains copper bars, vertical bars, endless blob, glenz vectors etc.? Would be interesting to read about that again.

Uchikoma··on Lessons learned defying Joel Spolsky with Django
Thanks for your reply, from looking at Iconfinder it did not look like a large piece of software with lots of business requirements.
