TruthElixirX··on The Styrofoam Cube In This Letter Serves A Bureaucratic Purpose
:(. I will have to switch to UPS now.
TruthElixirX··on The Styrofoam Cube In This Letter Serves A Bureaucratic Purpose
Nope. I am pretty much 100% electronic.
TruthElixirX··on The Styrofoam Cube In This Letter Serves A Bureaucratic Purpose
Ugh. USPS. I cannot actually remember the last time I used their service.
TruthElixirX··on Immigrant entrepreneur arrested to meet quotas
I don't think the USA killed this dream over the past decade. I'm pretty sure things have always been like this for non-whites in the U.S., it is just that the internet allows one to dispel the propaganda.
TruthElixirX··on Goldman Sachs loses $428 million in third quarter
The government robbed us, gave it to GS, and then GS pays the government back and the government blows up brown people.

What a win for the U.S. tax payer!

TruthElixirX··on On Political Belief
>I'd submit that it's less like caching than it is rooting for your favorite sport team.

Does anyone know how political views correlate with how much one likes sports?

TruthElixirX··on 24 Claims of Lodsys '565 Patent Rejected
Can someone explain dependent and independent claims to me?
TruthElixirX··on Court order seeks email of Wikileaks volunteer Jake Appelbaum
I'm not really sure what to tell you. In my ideal world the Whiskey Rebellion succeeded. George Washington was hung for treason. The Articles of Confederation were not replaced through the Constitutional Coup.

Slavery becomes out competed by the market and in areas where it is not out competed guerrilla armies of abolitionists attack plantations/slave owners in the night and smuggle out their newly freed comrades.

Its a graphic novel, bur whatever. It will give you an idea of what gets my libertarian boner going in regards to revising history.

TruthElixirX··on Court order seeks email of Wikileaks volunteer Jake Appelbaum
It has been opposed to individual freedom since it put down the Whiskey Rebellion. If people cared about personal freedom George Washington would have been hung for treason.
TruthElixirX··on White House Petition to End Software Patents Is a Hit
Because software can already be copyrighted.
TruthElixirX··on Thorium Reactors
Same Thorium hype as usual.
TruthElixirX··on Krugman on BitCoin
Austrians don't advocate for a deflationary currency, they advocate for competing currencies. Rothbard, one of the "pillars" of Austrian Economics, even stated that The Great Depression was due to deflation not inflation.

Lots of people that scratch the surface of Austrian Economics immediately start shouting the ills of inflation and such.

Most "hardcore" Austrians I know would like a currency that's supply grew with economic growth. Economy grows by x measure then so does the currency, to keep it stable.

The "rental" would include the damage you were dealt while not having that item.

I have no idea where I read Russian. My bad. :\
TruthElixirX··on Groupon leaks entire Indian user database
Maybe Russian search engines fall for keyword stuffing? I do not know what the primary search engine of Russia is.
TruthElixirX··on Policing the Police: The Apps That Let You Spy on the Cops
Just depends. The cops will still screw with you, hence, "You can beat the rap but you can't be the ride."
TruthElixirX··on I Spent A Coin (And I Liked It) — How I Bought Lunch in Manhattan with Bitcoins
"There are a lot of good ideas in Bitcoin, but the truth is that its raison d'etre is to enrich early adopters-- the definition of a pyramid scheme. (It's not a Ponzi scheme; that has a technical definition and Bitcoin doesn't qualify.)"

Kind of like how all monetary systems work? The closer you are to the source of the money the more it is worth because you can control the velocity.

How did XO/OLPC fail? I'm curious, I quit following the project. I thought it just never really got off the ground. Was that the only failure or something different?
TruthElixirX··on Reddit Hits 1.2B Monthly Pageviews, More Than Doubles Its Engineering Staff
You fix the problem by realizing editors where in place for a reason. People like crap and without editors to filter bullshit we get a continuing stream of fecal matter.

In theory moderators on Reddit should be some sort of quality control, but usually they just say "well if that is what the community wants..." and let the most ridiculous pandering submissions slide.

Someone needs to blend user submitted stories with editors and find where the sweet spot between the two is.

Until the two systems can be blended in an awesome hybrid, then yes, we will continue to flock to new sites as the old ones fall prey to eternal September.

TruthElixirX··on Reddit Hits 1.2B Monthly Pageviews, More Than Doubles Its Engineering Staff
I've been on reddit since 2007 under various names. I think the quality has declined quite a bit if you view /r/all, the front page everyone sees by default. Its really bad.

Individual subreddits are pretty good still though. /r/netsec, sysadmin, wearethemusicmakers, gamernews, philosophyofscience, etc. Smaller ones are still pretty quality.

TruthElixirX··on Microsoft joins preemptive patent protection program
The way the game is set up now it encourages people to go after one another, even if they don't want to. Maybe Microsoft has decided that the best courses of action rank as follows:

Go after no one under a new system.
Go after everyone under the current system.
Go after no one under the current system.
Currently only options 2 and 3 are available, but they would like to move to option number one and this is their first step in making that a reality.

I don't know that is what they are doing, just saying...

TruthElixirX··on What Bitcoin Is, and Why It Matters
Its already built in. Once all the coins are mined (or it is no longer profitable to do so) one can still run bitcoin but charge transaction fees for processing transactions.
TruthElixirX··on What will Google offer?
This isn't social in the same sense as their past failures were though. Orkrut, Buzz, etc all relied on your friends also using those services. Crowd sourced coupons don't have this holding them up.
TruthElixirX··on What will Google offer?
The most frustrating thing about instant search, to me, is that even in Firefox 4 and Opera (Haven't tried it on Chrome) the instant part freezes up sometimes if I type really quickly or backspace too fast.
