TrickyRick··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Almost correct, except it's the green/left that forced a shutdown of nuclear and sold the gas as "green". At least in Germany/Scandinavia, might be different in the rest of Europe.
TrickyRick··on 'We hacked the FBI:' Hackers say they have data on all FBI employees
Nobody (sane) is claiming it was faked. What sane non-AI-pilled people are claiming is "Our AI agent went rogue and hacked another company" is a much better story for the stock price than "Our human engineers screwed up a very basic sandboxing and allowed the agent access to things it shouldn't be able to access, and also they screwed up the task in the first place by accidentally giving the agent an impossible task". Only the latter reflects reality, the former is a marketing pitch.
TrickyRick··on AWS: Inaccurate Estimated Billing Data – $1.7 billion
If I were to guess this bug is in the "display" part of the system which is probably distinct from the "actually take money from the customer" part of the system. One can imagine they have gates on the "actually take money" part, especially for a large bill like ours which was ~$300b or about 2.5x AWS' 2025 revenue... In one month. Surely if we had actually accumulated that bill they would be the ones with the problems when we can't pay it.
TrickyRick··on Show HN: Travel Hacking Toolkit – Points search and trip planning with AI
It most definitely isn't, but it takes significantly more effort than the bloggers want to make it seem like.
TrickyRick··on Claude Code's source code has been leaked via a map file in their NPM registry
Giving your retina scan to one of the main Slop Bros, what could possibly go wrong?
TrickyRick··on Coding assistants are solving the wrong problem
Source: Trust me, bro. A company selling an AI model telling others their AI model is so good that it's building itself. What could possibly motivate them to say that?

Remember a few years ago when Sam Altman said we had to pause AI development for 6 months because otherwise we would have the singularity and it would end the world? Yeah, about that...

TrickyRick··on Airbus to migrate critical apps to a sovereign Euro cloud
SAP needs servers though, if they buy SAP hosted in AWS that kind of defeats the purpose.
TrickyRick··on Do not put your site behind Cloudflare if you don't need to
Being able to link to a BBC article (Or whatever major news source you prefer) to a customer is the best type of outage. "Look, this is so big it made the news - this isn't our fault"
TrickyRick··on Watching o3 guess a photo's location is surreal, dystopian and entertaining
I had a similar experience, I tried with some photos from various European cities and while it pretty much always got the city correct it was hilariously confidently incorrect in the exact location within the city. They were plausible but nowhere near the level of accuracy the article describes. All the images had distinctly recognizable landmarks which a resident of said city would know and which also have images available online given one knows the name of the landmark so I'm not particularly impressed.

In fact some of the answers were completely geographically impossible where it said "The image is taken from location X showing location Y" when it's not possible to see location Y if one is standing at location X. Like saying "The photo is taken in Central Park looking north showing the Statue of Liberty".

TrickyRick··on Hetzner cuts traffic on US VPSs, raises prices
Contrary to the belief of a lot of Americans, just because it works in the US doesn't mean it works elsewhere. In the rest of the world a driver's license is used for proving your right to drive and we have a thing called passports for proving your identity. Hetzner isn't an American company so why should they accept American drivers licenses?
TrickyRick··on All the data can be yours: reverse engineering APIs
Definitely, but it's also a lot more complex to present credible looking false data than to simply reject a request.
TrickyRick··on Bypassing regulatory locks, hacking AirPods and Faraday cages
Not to mention that this is paid by insurance in many countries which means there is little incentive for individuals to shop around.
TrickyRick··on Show HN: Stretch My Time Off – An Algorithm to Optimize Your Vacation Days
Works great with an evening flight, you can work all day and leave for the airport after work.
TrickyRick··on Show HN: Stretch My Time Off – An Algorithm to Optimize Your Vacation Days
The 24th of December is a weekend by law in Sweden (Semesterlag 3 a §)

"Lördag och söndag räknas inte som semesterdagar annat än i fall som avses i 9 § tredje stycket. Med söndag jämställs allmän helgdag samt midsommarafton, julafton och nyårsafton."

TrickyRick··on All the data can be yours: reverse engineering APIs
It's not exactly neither hard nor expensive to buy a residential IP proxy services to get around that.
TrickyRick··on Why the U.S. can't build icebreaking ships
There's this Taylor girl who seems pretty popular but maybe you're right, the record concert sales probably implies nobody is listening to her.
TrickyRick··on Klarna says its AI assistant does the work of 700 people
That's like saying gambling companies aren't predatory because personally I only bet on sports every once in a while and never more than I can afford to lose.
TrickyRick··on New jet engine enables efficiency at every speed for cheaper orbital launches

Seems to be the last one online

TrickyRick··on New jet engine enables efficiency at every speed for cheaper orbital launches
Until the new engine rules when it will be removed because it was deemed to expensive, complex and the technology didn't translate to road cars enough for them to justify the R&D.
TrickyRick··on TSMC to build second Japan chip factory
I mean it is?

"Cantonese (traditional Chinese: 廣東話; simplified Chinese: 广东话; Jyutping: Gwong2 dung1 waa2; Cantonese Yale: Gwóngdùng wá) is a language within the Chinese (Sinitic) branch of the Sino-Tibetan languages"

TrickyRick··on How iTunes Is Changing on PC
To be fair iTunes wasn't that great either, it was mostly a necessity to use iPhone (Update etc). Personally I haven't used any of these apps since it became possible to perform backups and updates without a computer.
TrickyRick··on DEF CON 32 Was Canceled. We Un-Canceled it
Not really, no card counter goes unnoticed forever. It's about making sure you get enough time to play when the count is high that you manage to earn money. If you're curious about the life of card counters I can't recommend this YouTube channel enough: https://www.youtube.com/stevenbridges
TrickyRick··on Security researchers collect awards for Tesla exploits at Pwn2Own Automotive
And F150 Lightning. It's pretty much par for the course these days for cars in short supply and I suppose the intentions are good, to keep people from jacking up the price, but I guess dealers do that instead?

TrickyRick··on Tell HN: Hacker News now supports IPv6
Wow learned something new today. What's interesting is that the decimal representation looks more like a phone number which people would be used to. Interesting that IP addresses as they are written today was the format that won, as a kid before learning how computers worked I always found it weird how 255 was the highest number in each group.
TrickyRick··on Hacking into an insurance company by exploiting their premium calculator
The search function isn't that good, "Insufficient technical and organisational measures to ensure information security" are basically all data leaks.

Here's a few famous ones, most of which are of course a few years old since government agencies tend to move slow but more recent ones will get what's coming for them.

Here's a long list of them

TrickyRick··on Mercedes gets approval for turquoise automated driving lights
How about "If you put blue lights everyone will think it's an unmarked police car" then? The argument works the other way around too, if you put turquoise lights on a 1999 Subaru nobody will think it's self driving.
TrickyRick··on Auto industry executives admit electric vehicle plans are in jeopardy
Why not take a taxi?
TrickyRick··on Apple: Android is a tracking device [pdf]
It really has, Android actually has privacy controls now which they definitely didn't in 2013. Developers can't request your location 24/7 without you even being aware of it like they could 10 years ago.
TrickyRick··on EU Chat Control Bill Postponed
Sadly the cert for Let Me Google That For You has expired, so here's a plain old google link for you: https://www.google.com/search?q=eu+unicorns

Off the top of my head, but some of these are older than 5 years: Spotify, Voi, Revolut, Ledger, Aiven.
