Toynbeeidea··on The End of a Fair Price: Dynamic Pricing and the Normalization of Gouging
I wouldn't accept a five-year old report either. Stuff can change in five months.
Toynbeeidea··on What reversing, modernising old games tells us about the economic impact of AI
And I was very happy to purchase BOTH volumes, as a long-time Infocom fan! I still have the discs in storage in a box of old cds in my closet. Of course, now I just have the z-machine files on my computer and run them through Gargoyle...
Toynbeeidea··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
We're getting off-topic here, but while "unemoloyed" I worked part-time as a cashier at one of the local grocery stores. Now I can't see how people on food stamps live, but I CAN confirm what they buy. Mostly, its pretty reasonable. But "welfare queens" do, in fact, exist. They buy shrimp and steaks with those stamps. Weekly.

I won't go into my theories as to causes or reasons or whatever. Just know that it IS a thing amongst a small subset of welfare recipients despite propoganda otherwise.

Toynbeeidea··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
So the.magazine for teachers - FOR TEACHERS - should be okay with having poor writing style? Is that all they deserve? And you accept that?
Toynbeeidea··on Has Violence Against Teachers Become Accepted by Society?
They'd have done that anyhow. By removing them, you improve the outcomes of everyone else.
Toynbeeidea··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Actually, yes. I would unironically like the first two things, and what's the issue with the glue factory?
Toynbeeidea··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
Oh? I recently stopped using revanced when updates stopped and my older revanced stopped working correctly. Is it back?

I live in amerifatland. They're building new houses all the time, everywhere I look, entire complexes of them. "McMansions," we call them.

I make average US wages, have my entire adult life. I cannot afford a house in my city unless I buy a literal ruin in the ghetto. The suburbs are far more expensive, and that's where the McMansion complexes are. I don't know who's buying them, but it isn't me and likely never will be.

Toynbeeidea··on EU chief opens door for Canada to become 'associate member'
No, because he was removed at gunpoint (no, not the one he pointed at himself). Unless and until that happens to a US President, you can expect more of the same.
Toynbeeidea··on When Google Cuts Off Access: Poland and the World
>That day I sent six complaints about Anthropic, the maker of Claude, to 107 recipients.

So a spammer spammed and got his just deserts. Good.

Toynbeeidea··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
Sure, good plan. I'll just walk into thr local CVS to buy a gift card and... oh, wait, no. Exact same issue.
Toynbeeidea··on Iranian banks' SSL certificates are being revoked due to OFAC sanctions
It works to buy darknet drugs, sure. Wake me up when I can go to the grocery store and buy some peaches. "Don't worry, cashier-bro, the transaction will only take 20 minutes to go through, trust me!"
Toynbeeidea··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
"Muh boy didn't shoot that man, the gun did!"
Toynbeeidea··on One Gets Through – Missile Command, but you launch the missiles
Hate to have to be that guy, but, ACKSHULLY, you already do launch the missiles in Missile Command. That's literally the entire game, in fact, launching missiles to intercept other missiles.
Toynbeeidea··on AI Is Powerful Enough to Crack Our Hardest Math Problems–and Kill Us All
How can AI do either of those things?
Toynbeeidea··on A misalignment of AI in mathematics
The same incentive there always was: Because you wanna know. What incentive were you thinking of?
Toynbeeidea··on Stop making swap partitions—use swap files instead
No.
Toynbeeidea··on What is nueralese and why is it bad
>If the recurrence step is no longer in English, we can no longer monitor intent, and can only observe whether a model is safe through behavior.

So, you mean, like another human person?

Toynbeeidea··on O&O ShutUp10 – The antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11
True. And yet the possibility exists that one COULD. That's the difference.
Toynbeeidea··on .name Termination
He is.
Toynbeeidea··on O&O ShutUp10 – The antispy tool for Windows 10 and 11
>Closed source doesn't mean not trustworthy

Yes, it does.

>O&O has been making tools like these for a long time.

Microsoft has made Windows for a long time. Longer, even.
