The guy you're replying to is probably used to linux where you can interpret a script the same way you run an executable: http://lxr.free-electrons.com/source/fs/binfmt_script.c

You can even add your own executable formats to do stuff like running Java class files by typing `./main.class`: https://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/binfmt_misc.txt

Wouldn't you prefer to generate type-safe bindings at compile-time?
ThisIs_MyName··on We’re pretty happy with SQLite and not urgently interested in a fancier DBMS
Yup, I did some benchmarking (for a webapp which runs a separate process for each customer) and SQLite had the highest TPS and lowest memory usage by a large margin.

Probably because it runs in the same address space as each server process and there is no message passing (TCP/unix socket) overhead.

I guess this is an unpopular opinion, but I really think my electronics are an extension of my body. I wouldn't go out without a phone in my pocket the same way I wouldn't want to lose a couple of digits.

Well, most tools generate a schematic of logic gates/LUTs and then a bitstream to configure your FPGA.

You could certainly use the schematic to build a circuit on a board.

This should answer your question about entropy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy_(information_theory)

tl;dr If you use names that are similar to other names, you will convey less information every time you use such names. So pick a name which doesn't require additional bits to disambiguate.

Note that English conveys roughly 1 bit of information per word.

> offer finer granularity than page allocations

How the fuck would that work? Today, the page table is cached in a TLB and modern Intel processors only have 1024 entries!

If you have a new entry in the page table for every malloc, dereferencing virtual memory will require a page walk for pretty much every memory access. You can't cache millions of entries.

I've always wondered why nobody sandboxes Java applets in a LXC/Docker container or in a chrome sandbox the same way flash is contained.

>I don't really expect that anyone would make that kind of guarantee

Yet you do seem to expect that guarantee:

> An honest business that actually believed in their own promises shouldn't have problem putting those promises into a formal guarantee.

You can't use such guarantees to vet businesses because no sane company would meet your requirements!

No business should play along with their BS or hand over customer data.

I never thought I'd say this, but: Good on Facebook for not complying.

On the other hand, I believe that we have a duty to disobey laws that prevent communication. Civil disobedience is also much easier when you're outside their jurisdiction.

Chill, dude. Most of us dislike GA and its monopoly on web/mobile tracking. Why trust GA to respect webmaster options when you don't have to?

...anyway, complaining about getting downvoted is a surefire way to keep getting downvoted :P

>they should indemnify the subjects of their spying against any damages those caused by those "external threats"

I despise GA as much as the next guy, but you'd have to be pretty crazy to expect any business to provide such a guarantee. Google isn't your insurance company.

Yep, it is guaranteed to reveal your ASN because the smallest IP prefix on the internet is /24.

The last 8 bits are not dependent on the network address.
