TheWiseOne··on iPad Pro – 9.7-inch
Have you looked at the Surface? Penny Arcade has had pretty good things to say about it but there have been plenty of other reviews as well.

Do no evil, right?

People seem to have this romanticized view of Google but this is a company that makes almost the entirety of its revenue from tracking users. Between Google, Chrome, Android, Gmail and Google Maps they have an astonishing amount of access to people's lives and most people seem none the wise to it. And yet, if another company does anything even remotely close (Microsoft with Windows 10, for example), they would be crucified. Google seems to escape the same level of criticism for some reason.

TheWiseOne··on Ask HN: Is Python dying?
F#?

It's used by a few big names (Bayard Rock, Tachyus, Jet.com, BlueMountain Capital, Microsoft Research, etc.) and it looks to be gaining more mainstream acceptance.

TheWiseOne··on Moving on from Picasa
Look into Snip from Microsoft (https://mix.office.com/Snip) and ShareX (https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX) for a couple other alternatives.
TheWiseOne··on Why do profit-seeking companies keep making profitless Android phones?
Consider a Windows Phone maybe? It lacks a lot of apps but if all you are interested in is the basics (calls, messaging, GPS, etc.), then it's a pretty solid OS. And the Nokia Lumia lines of phones are outstanding when it comes to build quality and battery life.
TheWiseOne··on Show HN: Turtl – A secure, encrypted Evernote alternative
There is still some manual work you have to do to organize them but you can use this tool to import all your notes from Evernote into OneNote: http://stefanstools.sourceforge.net/Evernote2Onenote.html

Another vote for Windows from me.

If you are planning on expanding to other platforms (iOS and Android, especially), maybe considering going with a C#/Xamarin-based project. It'll save you a lot of work by allowing you to re-use the underlying code for your app(s).

TheWiseOne··on Microsoft pulls in $1.35B in revenue for Surface line
Isn't it wrong to compare the Surface to the iPad? One is a full fledged pc with a complete operating system and the other is primarily a consumption device.

I think it makes more sense to compare the Surface line to the MacBook Air than it does to compare it to iPads.

TheWiseOne··on Announcing TypeScript 1.8 Beta
Visual Studio Code, WebStorm have excellent support for TS built-in. There is also CATS (https://github.com/jbaron/cats) that's targeted towards TypeScript.

For Sublime, Atom, etc. there are a bunch of plugins that you can download:

https://github.com/Microsoft/TypeScript-Sublime-Plugin

https://atom.io/packages/atom-typescript

Check out the DefinitelyTyped (http://definitelytyped.org) and Typings (https://github.com/typings) for type definitions to most of the popular JS libraries. There is also a list of some useful tools and utilities on the DefinitelyTyped website but here are a few that might be useful:

https://github.com/TypeStrong

https://github.com/sebastian-lenz/typedoc

TheWiseOne··on Ask HN: How many of you use Windows for web development?
Have you looked into Python Tools for Visual Studio (https://microsoft.github.io/PTVS/)? If you haven't, it's well worth a shot.
TheWiseOne··on Ask HN: Resources for learning ASP.NET?
The ASP.NET website (http://www.asp.net/) itself has a bunch of useful guides. Beyond that, Microsoft Virtual Academy has a few training videos/courses that might be useful.

TheWiseOne··on Vega: A Visualization Grammar
I've found Plottable (https://github.com/palantir/plottable) to be pretty good.
TheWiseOne··on MSBuild is going cross-platform with .NET Core
Something like Cake (http://cakebuild.net/), Bau (https://github.com/bau-build/bau) or Psake (https://github.com/psake/psake) are much better than using MSBuild.
TheWiseOne··on Uber NYC Trip Data from April to Sept. 2014
It doesn't apply so much to the big cities but in smaller cities and towns, it could be helpful for infrastructure planning/improvements - street lights, drinking fountains, bus stops around common pickup and drop off locations. Parking spaces around common UberPool locations, etc.
TheWiseOne··on Show HN: FireLite – A Lightweight C# TCP Socket Server/Client
You should update the Read Me file with this info and maybe add some examples/usage info, etc.
