TheRoque··on JuiceSSH – Give me my pro features back
The option is available, but it probably won't work (show some error that the chip should allow unsecure VMs)
TheRoque··on JuiceSSH – Give me my pro features back
Why would you pay for such feature ? Termux is basically a small Linux in your pocket and has anything you'd ever need regarding SSH
TheRoque··on JuiceSSH – Give me my pro features back
I quickly dropped JuiceSSH when I discovered Termux. And I also find it way easier to use the way I want to, and flexible.
TheRoque··on France Aiming to Replace Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, etc.
> The only way to accomplish this at scale is to build something that is legit better and let the market decide. Anything else is just principled wishful thinking.

Classic neo-liberalism BS (pardon my french). Markets are not some natural law written in the atoms, it's a human construction, and we shape it the way we want. Countries can create or destroy markets just with laws, you put a tax here, you put a legal requirement there. That's for example the reason that big american tech companies have been kicked out of South Korea:

Sure, if there are 2 competing companies that play with the exact set of rules, the mArKeT wIlL deCiDe, but that would be a really stupid decision from any government to not shape the rules in its favor. Europe is slowly waking up to this reality, better late than never I guess.

Did the "market decide" that Nvidia chips won't be shipped to China ? Did "the market decide" to put tariffs to get benefits from other countries ? Did "the market decide" to put embargo to Cuba, Iran, Venezuela.. ?

Hearing that regulations and laws is "wishful thinking" makes no sense at all. It's more the opposite, it's the only way to shape the markets the way you want to.

TheRoque··on Ask HN: DDD was a great debugger – what would a modern equivalent look like?
Maybe you can have a look at RadDbg [0], as I understand the project has been bought by Epic Games recently. The goal is to make a performant debugger, from what I understand its target audience is mostly game developers, but you can use it for other programs obviously. You can see a talk of the core developer and his vision here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9_bK_WjuYY

Sadly it's windows only yet, but they have plans to port it to other platforms.

TheRoque··on Open source server code for the BitCraft MMORPG
Maybe Veloren: https://gitlab.com/veloren/veloren

But I don't know if it really fits the "Massive" aspect of MMO

TheRoque··on Using proxies to hide secrets from Claude Code
At the moment I'm just using "sops" [1]. I have my env var files encrypted uth AGE encryption. Then I run whatever I want to run with "sops exec-env ...", it's basically forwarding the secrets to your program.

I like it because it's pretty easy to use, however it's not fool-proof: if the editor which you use for editing the env vars is crashing or killed suddently, it will leave a "temp" file with the decrypted vars on your computer. Also, if this same editor has AI features in it, it may read the decrypted vars anyways.

TheRoque··on ThinkNext Design
I was referring more to the classic T4XX line, like T480, T490 etc. I don't know what the new T14 or T16 are worth, but if they have equal quality I'm highly interested !
TheRoque··on ThinkNext Design
The thing that turns me off is that they are 14 inches for most of them. I personally cannot use my laptop in a serious way if it's below 16 inches
TheRoque··on Show HN: Nogic – VS Code extension that visualizes your codebase as a graph
How come nobody came up with an LSP that can perform this, all this time ?
TheRoque··on The creator of Claude Code's Claude setup
I was genuinely interested in knowing if you did it properly or not, since I read a lot of tales like this but don't understand how it can be true.
TheRoque··on The creator of Claude Code's Claude setup
Did you manage to make proper reviews of all the 30 PR ?
TheRoque··on The creator of Claude Code's Claude setup
For people with astigmatism, black in white is generally easier to read than the other way around: https://graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/15142/whic...

Of your criteria is battery life, dark mode is most likely better

If your criteria is eye damage/strain, then IIRC the research is divided on this topic

TheRoque··on The creator of Claude Code's Claude setup
Gemini CLI is decent.
TheRoque··on Claude Code On-the-Go
That sounds nice, but what happens when there's something Claude messes up, doesn't know how to do something, or when you have to review the thousand lines it added to your project ?

Unless it's a totally vibe coded side project without any tests or quality control of some sort.

I'm just curious what you can build with this setup. It just seems to be the way to create a mountain of sloppy, unmaintainable code.

TheRoque··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
I'm using Fedora with KDE Plasma, and at this point I can assure you that I run into more annoyances with Windows than Fedora

Linux has the reputation of being buggy and hard to fix, so some people don't put any effort in finding the solution, but windows has its fair share of issues too.

TheRoque··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
I 100% agree, I dual boot myself and get reminded on how horrible the user experience is as opposed to Fedora with KDE Plasma
TheRoque··on Microsoft kills official way to activate Windows 11/10 without internet
I wonder what's their endgame. I mean, if it keeps getting worse, at some point they will really bleed users.

Even if for now the stats (e.g. steam hardware survey), show only a slight increase in Linux users (and a lot of them could be dual booting)

TheRoque··on How China built its ‘Manhattan Project’ to rival the West in AI chips
Even that is true, it still doesn't make the west one block, and such title makes it believe so. There are no chip makers in Europe, so why even include it on the title ?
TheRoque··on How China built its ‘Manhattan Project’ to rival the West in AI chips
Love how people (americans) are always framing it "China vs the west" or "Russia vs the West" when in reality it's just China vs the US. It's convenient and makes people think that the whole western world is allied and agrees with the US. While it's true in theory, the reality is much more nuanced than this.
TheRoque··on AI agents are starting to eat SaaS

"We will train new models using data from Free, Pro, and Max accounts when this setting is on (including when you use Claude Code from these accounts)."

TheRoque··on AI agents are starting to eat SaaS
Just read the ToS of the LLM products please
TheRoque··on If you're going to vibe code, why not do it in C?
> it takes several months worth of effort and spits it out in a few hours

lol

TheRoque··on Has the cost of building software dropped 90%?
Especially if you factor-in the fact that the AI companies are losing money for now, and that it's not sustainable.
TheRoque··on Has the cost of building software dropped 90%?
But in the past, you knew the codebase very well, and it was trivial to implement a fix and upgrade the software. Can the same be done with LLMs ? Well from what I see, it depends on your luck. But if the LLMs can't help you, then you gotta read the whole codebase that you've never read before and you quickly lose the initial benefits. I don't doubt someday we'll get there though.
TheRoque··on Nook Browser
uBlock is still as efficient if you're using Mozilla, blame the browser not the extension
TheRoque··on Ghostty is now non-profit
I'm curious as to why you are so excited ? What makes Ghostty so special ? (Especially compared to Kitty or Wezterm which I use)
TheRoque··on AI agents find $4.6M in blockchain smart contract exploits
Check the prizes for the bug bounties in big smart contracts. The prizes are truly crazy, like Uniswap pays $15,000,000 for a critical vuln, and $1,000,000 for a high vuln. With that kind of money, I HIGHLY doubt there aren't people grinding against smart contracts as you say.
TheRoque··on AI agents find $4.6M in blockchain smart contract exploits
True, I'd be curious to see if (and when) those contracts were compromised in the real world. Though they said they found 0 days, which implies some breaches were never found in the real world.
TheRoque··on AI agents find $4.6M in blockchain smart contract exploits
Not sure what you mean that "input that X has happened". You don't directly input the changes, instead, you call a function that creates that state change (or not, if it's invalid), by running its code. This code can include checks on who is the caller, it can check if you're the contract owner, if you're someone who already interacted with the contract (by checking previous state), or any hardcoded address etc.
