TheLoafOfBread··on Biden approves American military contractors to deploy to Ukraine
So now what others believe he heard is more important than what he said? Oh wait, what he said does not fit your narrative about NATO. Got it.
TheLoafOfBread··on Biden approves American military contractors to deploy to Ukraine
> agreement that NATO won't expand east of Germany

What agreement? Even Gorbachev (last leader of USSR) confirmed that there was no such agreement.

And it did not voluntarily dissolved itself, it fell apart. Like when your plate voluntarily dissolves itself when you drop it on the floor.

TheLoafOfBread··on Denmark to charge $100 per cow in first carbon tax on farming
> That is the point. As you increase price, fewer cow units are sold because people don’t have unlimited money.

Or people might start voting for right wing parties promising to cancel these taxes. As just happened during last European elections.

TheLoafOfBread··on Denmark to charge $100 per cow in first carbon tax on farming
And those priced out people are voting for right wing parties promising to cancel those taxes. Those right wing parties might not do that, but people on the left should not be surprised why EU is leaning more and more to the right.
TheLoafOfBread··on Apple supplier Foxconn rejects married women from India iPhone jobs
>> Many of these people also said jewelry worn by married Hindu women could interfere with production.

>Gross

What is gross on it? To manufacture electronics you need to have working clothes, usually ESD complaint and hair covered again due to ESD (dry hair can generate lot of charge) but also if you are working with dumb and strong machines (CNCs, Lathes, KUKA robots) you are covering your hair to not get scalped.

TheLoafOfBread··on The Death of the Junior Developer – Steve Yegge
> leading to a future where there is no longer a path towards developing those senior skills.

That sounds like unintentional death spiral for a company. You don't have juniors, it is hard to get seniors, because nobody is training juniors. So when all the seniors eventually leave, company is left with tech stack which nobody understands and few people hired for maintenance are only able to perform specific rituals left from previous generation. This might work for a while due to momentum but after some time it will just implode under its own tech debt and one unexpected push - like nobody is making servers which our tech stack runs on a we need to migrate...

I mean, cruise missiles are often using jet engines. You would not really travel far with just rocket engine on Tomahawk.

Furthermore word missile is often used in history for arrows, spears and stones exchange during battle.

So technically it could be considered a missile.

TheLoafOfBread··on Apple won't roll out AI tech in EU market over regulatory concerns
Then it could be said, that their privacy control does not work, when you need to rely on security through obscurity.
TheLoafOfBread··on Is 2024 the year of Windows on the Desktop?

TheLoafOfBread··on Stars show signs of hosting advanced alien civilisations
> Maybe in 20 years time we will find out that a solar panel in space is much better because the sunlight does not have to travel through the atmosphere

It is basically guaranteed that microwave or laser beam from there is going to have a dual use purpose. As a source of energy and as a directed energy weapon. And it is a quite high chance that it will get banned by power which did not build it. Be it China, Russia, EU or USA.

TheLoafOfBread··on Stars show signs of hosting advanced alien civilisations
You are correct, it is an absurd and nonsensical idea. Especially from the material perspective. People will tell you that you need only XY amount of weight, which is just few percent of all the mass in solar system... but last time I checked, we are not grabbing random soil from Earth and putting it into a form of a satellite like a sandcastle. We need very specific materials put together in very specific way, where some of them are in very short supply to be wasted on Dyson swarm.

Of course, somebody will chime in and tell that advanced civilization could transmute any matter into any other matter. But if that would be possible, then it is completely negating any motivation to build Dyson swarm at a first place, because you can just transmute your toxic waste from local your local dump into antimatter and you have virtually endless amount of energy at your disposal.

TheLoafOfBread··on The number of CS grads who don't even know basic Git commands is astounding
I will rather work with somebody using Source Tree and clears his code before committing from unnecessary, irrelevant or outright wrong changes, than with somebody who knows 3 commands (git add ., git commit -m "some changes", git push) and repeats them without thinking the moment code on his side is "finished", thus committing also changes which are completely irrelevant to what such person was working on.
TheLoafOfBread··on Apple set to be first Big Tech group to face charges under EU digital law

TheLoafOfBread··on Do Games Like Factorio Or EVE Online Sap The Intellectual Potential Of Humanity?
With this logic, going into a gym is reducing amount of manual labor which humanity can do. Why would you pointlessly lift dumbbells, when you can lift bricks on your nearest construction site?
TheLoafOfBread··on The fastest path to African prosperity
In many African countries there were trains and railways. After colonizers left, railway gradually fell into disrepair and cease to be used. So I don't think that roads are the answer.

Oh, will it get cancelled like the last time, from the same reasons? Board is still more-less the same. And last time it got cancelled because board was not independent.
TheLoafOfBread··on Euro banks worry AI will increase their dependence on US big tech
Get BBVA USA branch, no hallucination needed, their system marked any use of their payment cards as a fraud. Useless bank.
TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
Which is not true, if you look into for example Three Miles Island reactor meltdown, where from outside point of view, there is no difference and only 600 meters exclusion zone from the reactor.

Furthermore nuclear disasters killed dozens of people, while water related disasters killed thousands of people. Another reason to ban dams.

TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
But your point about French NPs is technicality which can be rectified. Time of low wind can't be rectified unless we are able to control the weather.
TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
But that can be easily rectified by building cooling towers, instead of using river for cooling. What are you going to do with wind not blowing?
TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
Actually there can be a year without a wind - see low winds in Europe in 2021
TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
Which is a lie. I.e. Czech Republic is on the same place with available uranium as Kuwait is with oil.
TheLoafOfBread··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
And yet it was Kakhovka dam causing disaster. So should we stop building dams by this logic?
TheLoafOfBread··on EVs Could Last Nearly Forever–If Car Companies Let Them
Not really. When your car will start rusting inside, because water got in through rusted through holes, then without extensive repair it can't be saved. Such repair will be more expensive than remaining value of the car.

Wiring is even more problematic. When PVC will degrade, you need to change whole wiring not just the broken part, because changing only the broken part will make more problems in different parts thanks to the fact that you will need to manipulate with rest of the harness and degraded PVC has tendency to get hard and break off. Wiring for the car can cost several thousand EUR because it is basically manual labor without much prospect for automation. If it is car older than 10 years, it makes no sense to do that.
